Pampering it forward Continued

“The pampering it forward day was just amazing. As I looked around and saw so many people it moved my heart in many ways. For me, I got to speak to the women and educate them on Health and Wellness, giving the women some ideas on how to live a healthy life…. As I went through the information with them, I knew that the day was more than me just teaching women how to take time for themselves, eat healthy and exercise, it was my heart doing my passion. It was also a whole group of others doing a passion as well. It is forever in my heart and I want more of it!” Dani Laux

“What a blessing the spa day was to so many women and their children. However, I feel like I received the best blessing of all by being a part of such an incredible day. To see and hear these woman express their gratitude will be something I will remember for a long time. Count me in for the next one!!“ Christine Taylor

"It was so nice to see the grateful faces on the women and to feel as grateful to them for letting us come in and serve them in this way." Tiffany Kuntz

“This experience opened my eyes! My heart melted for these kids and being able to give them a day of fun and letting us love on them when their little lives are hard, was an absolute JOY. I want to do it again!“ Leann Womacks

“What an absolute joy it was to see these women come from getting their hair cut or nails done - they were just beaming!! It was so awesome to be able to tell them how beautiful they looked. I can't even imagine being in the position they are in. I only wish we could have told them how very much God loves them and even if it does feel as though they are alone, God is with them every step of the way. One of the gals said after getting her hair done she felt like a princess and we were able to tell her she was. Her response: "I am a princess of God." Amen!!” JoRene Bruzek

“This was a wonderful way to show Jesus' love to others with servant's hearts!” Gail Dudlicek

“I remember waiting in anticipation for our ladies to come into the room we had ready for them. I kinda had an idea of what I thought they would look like and be like. When our first two ladies walked in, I got chills all over my body, and all I could think was, "they look just like me." If I had met them on the street or in the grocery store, I would never have guessed that they would have a place at Mutual Ground. The other thing that really struck me, as I did their mani-cures and massaged their hands, was that none of them were ever able to relax. As hard as I tried to talk calmly and smile a lot, and massage all the tension out of them, not once did any of them relax their hands. It was as if, even in all that pleasantness, they could-n’t let their guard down.” Becky Nance

“The event at Mutual Ground touched my heart in so many ways. To see the joy in each woman’s face as she showed off the results of her treat-ment…one woman was so sweet as she asked us to touch her hands to feel how soft they were after her paraffin treatment, “my hands feel won-derful, I feel wonderful”. There was such a feeling of being uplifted, watching the ladies interact during lunch, all the smiles on their faces and then the look of delight when they won their door prize. I wanted to hug every one of them and let them know how special they are. I was also touched by the number of people that volunteered their time and ser-vices. Counting names on a piece of paper doesn’t have quite the same impact as seeing all these people working together to make the day a success. We are truly blessed to have so many do so much. And even though we weren’t allowed to pray, you could feel God’s love flowing

through everyone there.” Olivia Jordan

“The highlight of my day was talking with one of the women during lunch. She seemed so relaxed and happy. I loved that we were able to do that for her. She was very appreciative of everything and seemed just content to sit back and enjoy the day.” Kris Chrzan

“Working in hospitality where the ladies often began and ended their day, was a privilege. Most of the ladies arrived in the morning with-drawn and not speaking to anyone. When it was time for each of them to leave, most if not all of the ladies stayed in the hospitality room to chat for quite a while and when they did leave they had a smile and a joy that was a blessing to see.” Kim Rowland

We thought it would be great to let some of the volunteers share their experience with you. Thanks to all who stepped up to help.

Hanging Of The GreensHanging Of The Greens

Save the date!! “Hanging of the Greens” will be held on Sunday, November 22, at 4 pm. This unique and fun-filled NCC family tra-dition serves many purposes. We gather together to prepare our hearts for advent, to bring our church family together for service and fellowship, to decorate the church for the upcoming holiday season, and oh yeah EAT!

The “Hanging of the Greens” event is open to everyone, so watch the bulletin in early November for details and sign-up information. We hope to see you there! If you would like to get involved in this event, we need you. Contact Patty Frump at [email protected]

The following is a note of Thanks from someone who was pampered...

Hello to the Women from Naperville Christian Church, Thank you so much for all the effort & time that made my Spa Day absolutely WONDERFUL! I appreciate every single effort - as I truly enjoyed all aspects of it. Starting with the Pedicure, Paraffin, Manicure, Health & Wellness, the Massage (I actually got 3 massages - thank you!). Thank you for the wonderful food, and most of all the ones who took my children as well as the beautiful girls who cared for my baby. I cannot imagine such a day without your help.

Now, a little about me- I am a mother of 3 beautiful children and married 10 years and supporting a man in all ways imaginable with his career & his green card, supporting his family working through my way to support him & the kids. And one day, I wake up to emotional abuse and decided to separate from him, I am looking for a job to keep my mind on other things as well as to care for my young ones. I am a college graduate from the University of Chicago and an IT person. Again, thank you so much for this beautiful day as I “Pamper it Forward” to another. Edited for purposes of confidentiality. Permission given to share.

Two Ladies you should know… Ashley Bodik and Jackie Campion

By Becky Nance

Women Reaching Women is a quarterly publication of Naperville Christian Church’s Women’s Ministry. Please e-mail comments, story suggestions or information to Patty Frump at [email protected].

How long have you been coming to our church? One year.

Where did you move from? Rockwall, TX, outside of Dallas by 20 miles.

What drew you to NCC? First I started coming to MOPS, and then we decided to try it because it was close by and a small church with friendly people.

Are you involved in any ministries here? Esther women's bible study, MOPS, and small group.

How long have you been a Christian? Since I was 5 years old, baptized at birth and age 22.

What are your hobbies or interests? Digital scrap booking, running, tennis.

What is something you are REALLY good at? Making scrapbooks and multitasking.

What is something that you just hate to do? I hate cleaning my house.

Tell us a little bit about your family: Jason, my husband of 3 years, and I have a 13 month old-Brooklynn Rose. Jason is a Project Mgr for AT&T, previously, a Network Engineer for 9 years. I'm cur-rently a stay at home mom, and I sell Creative Memories from home, previously, a 4th grade teacher. We are looking forward to having more biological children as well as starting the international adoption proc-ess (Jamaica) soon.

How has being a mother impacted/changed your life? It has made me a more accepting, flexible, pa-tient, loving person. I can't believe how much God has changed me and reprioritized my life. I never thought it would be this hard yet so wonderful to be a mother. I'm even ready for more babies!!

What is your favorite verse or passage, and why? John 3:16 because it's the heart of the gospel, it is the one verse that makes the most sense to me, and sums up life. It was also the first verse I ever memo-rized as a child.

What book would your recommend reading? "In Praise of Stay at Home Moms" by Dr. Laura (at Bar-nes & Noble for $4!!).

What is your favorite thing about your husband? He accepts me for who I am-faults and all-and does-n't try to change me.

Ashley Bodik

We asked our local reporter, Becky Nance to get the scoop on two ladies she felt you should know. Take a moment to read about both ladies. Thank you to both ladies for sharing with us.

Page 5

How long have you been coming to our church? A year now. Shortly after we moved to Naperville.

Where did you move from? Maspeth, New York.

What drew you to NCC? When we moved, we didn't know any-one, and the first thing we wanted to do after we moved was to find a church. He found it on-line. What drew us to come back is

the fact that it is a welcoming church. We really felt at home here, so we stopped looking. The boys went to the youth group and really liked it. James (our once shy- introvert of a child) said adamantly that this is where he be-longed. He really clicked with the kids and Jon. Worship is a big factor for me also.

Are you involved in any ministries here? I belong to the woman's Bible study that meets on Wednesday morn-ings, and also volunteer to watch kids for MOPS and once a month in the nursery during service.

How long have you been a Christian? 21 years.

If you could say one thing about what Christ has done in your life, what would it be? I became more confi-dent in who I was as a child of God. He saved me from myself and a road of destruction. I was definitely on the wrong path after high school. God was always with me.

What is something you are REALLY good at? What is something that you just hate to do? I'm good at car-ing for and teaching children (preschoolers). Something that I don't like to do is iron, or fold laundry!

Tell us a little bit about your family: My family consists of my husband Ron, who I've been married to for 16 years now, and my children James,15, and Joshua,12 years. I am really proud of who they've become and are go-ing to become.

How has being a mother impacted/changed your life? It changed who I was as a person. I really thought that I knew all there was to know about raising kids, but they proved me wrong. I think I learned as I went. Before I mar-ried, I was a nanny, and babysat many kids. It's a lot different when you have your own kids and always wonder if you’re doing the right thing all the time. They are totally dependent on you as a parent. I knew how I wanted them to turn out and behave, but each kid is different. I learned I need to raise them as they are, and who they are, and who God is making them to be. I always wanted to be a mom. I didn't have high career goals and didn't know what I wanted as far as job, but I always knew that I wanted to be a mom. It can drive you nuts at time, especially with the lack of sleep in the beginning, but there's a love that sweeps over you when they're born that I didn't know I had!

What is your goal in life? How do you want to leave your mark on the world? That I was a good mom and loved by my children, despite my faults.

What is your favorite verse or passage, and why? "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." There were many times where I needed the Lord to put me on the right path again and I always needed to trust him.

What is your favorite thing about your husband? Tough one! Just kidding. :) My marriage like any other had its ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. He is always willing to do anything it takes to be a good fa-ther and husband. He is forgiving and a very organized person, which I am not. I think that we compliment each other well.

Let’s go Green!!

Melt down broken crayons to create new multihued chunk crayons. Microwave pieces in a paper cup for 15 seconds at a time. Or spray muffin tins with cooking spray and fill with crayon pieces. Bake at 400 degrees to melt, then put in the freezer to cool. I use heart shaped muffin tins (silicone) to create chunk heart crayons for Valentine's Day. If you don't want to deal with the mess go to crazycrayons.com for recycling options.

Go to recycline.com to purchase an eco-friendly toothbrush. The handle is made of 100% recycled plastics, and when it is time for a new one, you can send the old one back! ( Use a prepaid postage label from recycline.com.) It will be turned into plastic lumber for park benches and children's playgrounds. Each brush has a fun fact about an endangered animal, and a portion of all sales goes to the National Wildlife Federation. Each toothbrush is about $3.

Earth911.com will give you information on recy-cling CFL bulbs. Be care-ful because they contain small amounts of mercury.

A carbon foot print is an estimate of how much your lifestyle contributes to climate change. It’s a single number that represents the total quantity of greenhouse gas emissions your responsible for in a year.

Go to brighterplanet.com for more information.

Reuse packaging peanuts or go to loosefillpackaging.com for drop-off spots, or call the Peanut Hotline at 800-828-2214.

Donate glasses to the Lions Club. Lionsclubs.org will provide you with drop-off locations. (Or check for the drop off box in the NCC lobby).

Rebounces.com pays shipping for batches of 250+ tennis balls, to be repressurized and resold. (Or make a donation to a nearby Retirement Home. Tennis balls are great caps for walker legs).
