Navona Square, which displays the genius of Bernini and Borromini, is one of the finest Baroque masterpieces in papal Rome. The site for today’s square is built on the ancient Stadium of Domitian. The magnificent church of Sant’Agnese in Agone was designed by Francesco Borromini. The Altemps Palace, originally built by a Roman noble family, is built around a delightful courtyard decorated by a monumental fountain standing in the middle. This magnificent palace hosts a remarkable collection of antiquities from the classical world as well as from Egypt. The visit includes:

The Borghese Art Gallery includes twenty rooms across two

floors.

The main floor is mostly devoted to classical antiquities of

the 1st-3rd centuries AD (including a famous 320-30 AD

mosaic of gladiators found on the Borghese estate at

Terranova, on the Via Casilina outside Rome, in 1834 BC),

and classical and neo-classical sculpture such as the Venus

Victrix.

Capitoline Museums and walk in the ancient Rome Thursday, October 9th - 9.00 am

The creation of the Capitoline Museums has been traced back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value to the People of Rome. The collections are closely linked to the city of Rome, and most of the exhibits come from the city itself. It is considered the most ancient collection in the world. In the afternoon, visit of the archeological heart of the city: from the Capitol Hill to the Coliseum, passing by the Trajan Markets, an accompanied walk on the side of the Roman Forums, held by an Official guide of Rome, which will end by the Arch of Constantine. Trevi Fountain and the Ancient Water Streets Thursday, October 9th - 6.00 pm

Fontana di Trevi, surely the most famous and spectacular fountain of Rome, builted by the sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1629. The VicusCaprarius, also called “The City of Water”, is an archaeological area in the quarter of Trevi. This spectacular site is a recent excavation of an imperial roman quarter. The area is situated 8 meters underground, in a suggestive atmosphere, and preserves the look of the activity in the center of Rome from I till V century a.D.

Domitian Stadium under Navona Square and Vatican Museums by night

Friday, October 10th - 4.00 pm

Grand re-opening of one of the most important underground site of Rome, first and unique sample of stonework stadium, the Domitian Stadium was built by the emperor Domitian in 85 a.D. under Navona Square to celebrate the “Certamen Capitolinolovi”, athletic activities very similar to the Greek Olympics. Later on, the group will have a special occasion to visit the Vatican Museums and the Sistin Chapel by night.
