I encourage all members of the school community to consult around the policy and plan. The P&C Meeting commences at 7.00pm. The new state School Enrolment Policy below, will also be outlined. The next policy area for review will be homework. NSW Public Schools Enrolment Policy As you may have heard in the media, there has been an update to the NSW Public Schools Enrolment Policy. All schools in NSW will now be allocated an enrolment zone and also a cap on student numbers based on permanent class- rooms. Nashdale PS has already undertaken significant work in this area and has been in consultation with NSW Schools Infrastructure regarding proposed catchment boundaries. I acknowledge the significant work undertaken during the Building Education Revolution and subsequent works which have equipped us with a number of permanent teaching spaces. Nashdale’s new catchment boundary and cap will come into place in Term 4. Students currently attending Nashdale will be unaffected and all offers for Kin- dergarten 2020 will be upheld. Our current Enrolment Policy will change slightly to reflect the new state policy. Any new enrolments or change of address will need to provide a 100 point check for all enrolments to NSW Public Schools. Further details will be provided at the P&C meeting tonight. Parking at Nashdale Public School Please be vigilant when dropping off and picking up in the parking area. Ensure you have a clear view of where your child is walking at all times. We encourage you to have a discussion with your child regarding pedestrian safety around cars as we do in road safety lessons. All cars should be reversing into a carpark and we ask that you keep the front gate clear for pedestrian access. Please do not walk through the teachers carpark. We are currently in talks with Cabonne Council regarding our concerns with the parking area. We have been advised the road will be rehabilitated along with plans to re-construct the parking/pedestrian access. Unfortunately, these requests do not happen over night and we will keep you up to date as informa- tion filters through. School Spectacular Nashdale PS will again be involved in the School Spectacular on the evenings of Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 November. School Spectacular is held biannually across the Orange Small Schools network. The performances allow students to experience a stage production as part of the Creative and Practical Arts syllabus. All students from K-6 will be involved and have already com- menced rehearsing their dances. Further information will be provided by your class teacher regarding costumes and rehearsal times. I would like to thank our teachers for their commitment to the School Spec and a very big thank you to Piper and Lotus Want for helping choreograph the dances. Upcoming excursions We are looking forward to many fun filled excursions for all students in Term 4. Years 4-6 are heading to Canberra on Wednesday 13 November for two nights. Final payment for this excursion is due by Friday 20 September. Year 3 are off to Lake Burrendong Sport and Recreation Camp on Thursday 14 November for the night. Students have received permission notes this week. Students from K-2 will be treated to a day excursion. Teachers are in the pro- cess of making a final decision and costings of this excursion, which will also be in Term 4.

NSW Department of Education | Enrolment of students in NSW Government schools | Residential address check education.nsw.gov.au

Residential address check For the enrolment of students in NSW Government schools

Key principles

The Education Act 1990 provides the key principles that govern the enrolment of students in NSW Government schools. Some of them are summarised below.

The parent of a child may enrol the child at any government school if the child is eligible to attend the school and the school can accommodate the child (section 34.1).

A child is entitled to be enrolled at the government school that is designated for the intake area within which the child’s home is situated and that the child is eligible to attend (section 34.2).

The principal may, for the purpose of establishing a child’s eligibility to attend or entitlement to be enrolled at the school, require a person seeking to enrol the child at the school to provide proof, to the satisfaction of the principal, of the child’s identity, date of birth and home address (section 34A.1).

In determining whether a child could be accommodated, the number of classrooms and other facilities may be considered (section 34.6).

The enrolment of a child who is not entitled to be enrolled at the school may be terminated if the child was enrolled as a result of false information or a false document provided (section 34A.4).

Establishing the child’s residential address

To determine a child’s eligibility to attend or entitlement to enrol in the school, the principal may require documents to establish the child’s address.

Generally, acceptable documents show the full name of the parent and address of the parent or carer with whom the child lives. However, any requests for proof of address must be reasonable in the circumstances.

Staff in schools abide by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW). Residential address information provided will be used to process applications for enrolment and associated purposes and the information will be stored securely.

100-point residential address check in some schools with a designated intake area

Schools that are above or near (i.e. the number of non-local enrolment applications received exceeds the number of enrolment places available outside the local enrolment buffer) their buffer level use the following 100-point residential address check to verify that the student being presented for enrolment lives within the intake area.
