IMPORTANT INFORMATION

DRESS AND CONDUCT CODEThe AACS feels that AACS National Competition should have the highest standards of

competition and Christian testimony. Therefore, because this event is the highest level of

competition for AACS students in the nation, all participating students and adult sponsors are

expected to display the utmost respect for and strict adherence to these standards. Failure to

do so may result in disqualifi cation. The Dress and Conduct Code must be followed at all

times—whether during a competition or apart from a competition, whether on campus

or off campus.

The Dress Code:1. Girls’ and ladies’ skirts will be to the middle of the knee or longer, and necklines will not be

exceedingly low or open in the front or back. No shorts may be worn outside the residence halls.

Slacks may be worn for recreation at the Field House only.

2. Boys and men will wear neat shirts with a collar, tucked in, and dress slacks. Hair should be

short—off the collar and ears, one inch above the eyebrows, tapered in the back, combed, with

no long sideburns. No beards or mustaches will be permitted for students. Jeans are not to be

worn on the host campus.

3. Shorts or tank tops are not allowed outside the residence halls. Sunbathing is not permitted

anywhere on campus.

4. Appropriate dress for the evening programs includes the following: Boys/men—dress slacks,

dress shoes, dress shirt with collar, neck tie, and preferably with a sport coat or suit; Girls/ladies—

Sunday-type dress outfi t, dress shoes and hose.

Page 5: NATIONAL COMPETITION...AACS or BJU disciplinary rules and regulations may result in disqualifi cation from all events and/or disqualifi cation from the following year’s competition

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Conduct Code:1. The conduct of students is expected to meet the standard for believers in I Timothy 4:12.

Patience, kindness, and good sportsmanship is the exemplary rule to follow at all times for all

students, sponsors, parents, and visitors. Insubordination or disruptive behavior by any student,

sponsor, parent, or visitor toward any judge(s) or competition offi cial(s) will not be tolerated.

Behavior which does not exemplify a Christian will be grounds for disqualifi cation from

competition and/or expulsion from the campus.

2. AACS participants are expected to abide by the same regulations as BJU students. Violating

AACS or BJU disciplinary rules and regulations may result in disqualifi cation from all events

and/or disqualifi cation from the following year’s competition. The AACS National Competition

Offi ce will make the fi nal decision in disciplinary situations.

3. Any individual or group practicing during AACS chapels or not attending chapel or other

required services, will be disqualifi ed from all events and/or disqualifi ed from the following

year’s competition. The disqualifi cation of one or more students for the following year’s

competition may be extended to the school.

4. Individuals or groups not attending the residence halls’ evening prayer group will have their

names and their school’s name submitted to the AACS National Competition Offi ce.

5. Any individual vandalizing or stealing the property of BJU or of a BJU student will be subject

to disqualifi cation and possible immediate expulsion from the campus at the individual’s

expense.

6. Inappropriate behavior during the chapel service or the evening programs could result in

a school’s disqualifi cation from all events and/or disqualifi cation from the following year’s

competition. This includes inappropriate behavior in response to the presentation of awards

to groups and individual students during the Thursday night Awards Program. The result of

such behavior can be the recall of presented awards and/or exclusion from the following year’s

competition.

7. AACS participants are to remain on campus at all times, unless under the supervision of an

adult staff member from his/her school.

Thursday3:30–5:30 p.m. Final Quizzing Round Stratton Hall

All pairings after the fi rst round will be made on the basis of high, middle, and low scores of the

games. Team competitions will be posted outside the doors of the competition rooms. Teams

must consult the listings and be present and ready to quiz at the posted times. Semi-fi nal and

fi nal team pairings will also be posted at the competition rooms.

Bible Quizzing is a double-elimination tournament with each round producing a high winner,

a low winner, and a loser. A team is eliminated after two losses. A typical game lasts about 20

minutes.

Quiz team sponsors must be aware at all times when the team is scheduled to quiz. Delays cause

problems for later scheduling.

may be spread over the two days of competition. A proctor (judge) in charge will distribute the

test to the contestants. When the test is completed, it is to be returned to the proctor, who will

BIBLE DIVISION 2: BIBLE TESTING

Category 3: Bible MemoryThursday—Lecture A8:30–10:30 a.m.

Bible Memory competition is conducted in the same manner as a spelling bee.

Round 1: The Master gives the reference; the contestant recites the verse.

Round 2: The Master gives the application statement of the verse; the contestant gives both the

reference and the verse.

A contestant shall be permitted one error before his elimination. Upon commission of the

second error, the contestant will be eliminated by the Master with confi rmation of the judges.

If it becomes obvious that there will be no clear winner because the fi nalists continue to recite

accurately all the verses and references, the Master will then require the fi nalists to write out

verses and references chosen from the application outline list.

The fi rst-, second-, and third–place winners will then be judged on the basis of the fewest errors

on the entire written examination, which includes spelling and punctuation as well as the words

of the verses.

These three tests may be spread over the two days of competition. A proctor (judge) in charge

will distribute the test to the contestants. When the test is completed, it is to be returned to the

proctor, who will score it later. It is the contestant’s responsibility to stay within the one-hour

time limit per test.

Categories 9 and 10 have one writing period, not to exceed two hours in length.
