CANDIDATES HAVE 15 MINUTES TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMMENCING THE ACTUAL EXAMINATION.

Answer ALL the questions. Read ALL the questions carefully. Number the answers according to the numbering system used in this question paper. ALL questions must be done on the computer with the aid of Microsoft Office Suite. ALL PRINTOUTS must be numbered with both the EXAMINATION NUMBER and the QUESTION NUMBER as instructed for each PRINTOUT. PRINTOUTS with handwritten EXAMINATION NUMBERS are NOT acceptable unless signed by the invigilator to endorse the fact that it is the candidate's own work. The fonts Arial, Courier New or Times New Roman size 12 will be accepted. ONE font type must be used throughout the entire question paper, except where instructed otherwise. Candidates must retrieve and use the various files loaded on the memory stick/flash disk/network drive (whichever one is used) to effect the various instruction for the applicable questions. The time allocated for answering the question paper is THREE hours. An additional THIRTY minutes may be allowed to a candidate for the printing of answers where a central printer is used in a venue. Printing may also be done during the three hours allocated to the processing of answers to prevent a printing queue after the examination. During the additional printing time candidates may only print answers. NO further keying in or editing may be done. It is recommended that additional invigilators who are knowledgeable about computers invigilate during the additional 30 minutes' printing time to ensure control. In the event of a power failure or a computer or printer breakdown the invigilator must make the necessary arrangements for the candidate to continue, and the actual time lost must be added once work is resumed.

Each answer should be printed on a separate sheet of A4 paper and on one side of the paper only. PRINTOUTS must be placed in the EXAMINATION FOLDERS after printing. PRINTOUTS to be marked must be arranged in the same order as that of the questions in the examination paper (only ONE printout per question or subsection of a question may be handed in). At the end of the examination ALL PRINTOUTS must be placed in the student's EXAMINATION FOLDER and must be handed to the invigilator. This includes all PRINTOUTS on which errors occur and which should not be marked. NO PRINTOUTS whatsoever may be removed from the examination room or put into wastepaper bins. QUESTIONS 2–7 must be completed in the files provided in the STUDENT FILES FOLDER. After completing each question, it must be saved and printed and the PRINTOUT must be put in the EXAMINATION FOLDER. ALL work on the computer should be saved at regular intervals to prevent loss of work in the event of a power failure. NO additional time may be allowed for such lost work. It is the candidates' responsibility to protect their answers through regular saving. At the end of the examination session each candidate must hand in the PRINTOUTS as well as the memory stick/flash disk (or other storage device which may be used) with the saved answers (properly marked with the candidate's EXAMINATION NUMBER on the cover). If a network is used, the network manager must make a backup copy of all the candidates' work under supervision of the invigilator. (These memory sticks/flash disks and/or backup copies, for example CDs, must be handed to the examination section of that campus for safekeeping for one year in case enquiries should be made by the examiner/moderator/ superintendents of education and/or Umalusi.) The hard drive of the computer may not be used for the saving of documents in the event of other groups using the same venue being used during more than one sitting. The hard drives must be checked and cleared before the next group commences the examination session. NO candidate may print his/her work for another candidate, or make his/her memory stick/flash disk available to another or access other candidate's work on the network. Any attempt to access information from or transfer information to another candidate, in whatever manner, is a contravention of the examination rules and regulations and will be viewed in serious light. Spell check each completed question before printing. Marks are deducted for work that is not accurately typed.

PRINT SCREEN FUNCTION

Press the Print Screen button on the top row of the keyboard on the right-hand side of the F12 function key.

Minimise that screen and open the required answer sheet.

Place the cursor at the position where the answer must be inserted.

Press CTRL+V on the keyboard or click the Paste icon on the standard toolbar.

The print screen image/picture will appear in the position where the cursor was placed.

20. TIMED ACCURACY TEST (QUESTION 1)

Candidates are allowed to read through the timed accuracy test at least THREE minutes before the commencement of the examination.

ALL candidates perform the test together at the instruction of the invigilator.

The test must be done at the beginning of the examination.

A student arriving after the first 10 minutes will NOT be allowed to do QUESTION 1 and must start at QUESTION 2 onwards. NO PRINTOUT for QUESTION 1 will be accepted from this student.

On the expiration of the 10 minutes allowed for the timed accuracy test the invigilator will collect ALL tests and initial after the last keyed-in word on each page. The invigilator will retain the tests until the examination has been completed and will, in the presence of the candidates, place these tests into each candidate's EXAMINATION FOLDER.

The Northern Cape (Afrikaans: Noord-Kaap; Tswana: Kapa Bokone) is the largest and

most sparsely populated province of South Africa. It was created in 1994 when the

Cape Province was split up. Its capital is Kimberley. It includes the Kalahari Gemsbok

National Park, part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, an international park shared

with Botswana. It also includes the Augrabies Falls and the diamond mining regions in

Kimberley and Alexander Bay. The Namaqualand region in the west is famous for its

Namaqualand daisies. The southern towns of De Aar and Colesberg, in the Great

Karoo, are major transport nodes between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port

Elizabeth. In the northeast, Kuruman is known as a mission station and also for its

artesian spring, the Eye of Kuruman. The Orange River flows through the province,

forming the borders with the Free State in the southeast and with Namibia to the

northwest. The river is also used to irrigate the many vineyards in the arid region near

Upington.

Native speakers of Afrikaans comprise a higher percentage of the population in the

Northern Cape than in any other province. The Northern Cape's four official languages

are Afrikaans, Tswana, Xhosa, and English. Minorities speak the other official

languages of South Africa, and a few people speak indigenous languages such as

Nama and Khwe.

The provincial motto, "We go to a better life", is in the Nǀu language of the Khomani

people. It was given in 1997 by one of the language's last speakers, Ms. Elsie Vaalbooi

of Rietfontein, who has since died. It was South Africa's first officially registered motto

in a Khoisan language. Subsequently, South Africa's national motto, ǃKe e ǀxarra ǁke,

was derived from the extinct Northern Cape ǀXam language.

The Northern Cape was one of three provinces carved out of the Cape Province in

1994, the others being Western Cape to the south and Eastern Cape to the southeast.

Politically, it had been dominated since 1994 by the African National Congress (ANC).

Geologically, hillside erosion exposed the northern end of the cavity, which extends horizontally for about 140 m (460 ft) into the base of a hill. Accumulated deposits inside the cave, up to 7 m (23 ft) in depth, reflect natural sedimentation processes such as water and wind deposition as well as the activities of animals, birds and human ancestors over a period of some 2 million years. The site has been studied and excavated by archaeologists since the 1940s and research here generates important insights into human history in the subcontinent of Southern Africa.
