Mission of the JCNDE
• "The JCNDE develops and conducts highly reliable, state of the art cognitive examinations that assist regulatory agencies in making valid decisions regarding licensure of oral health care professionals, develops and implements policy for the orderly, secure, and fair administration of its examinations, and is a leader and resource in assessment for the oral health care profession."

Changes Occurring in 2012
• Candidates will receive PASS / FAIL for NBDE Part 1 and Part 21
• Those candidates that test before will retain their scores. • After 01/01/12, passing candidates will receive the status of
Pass, “P”, while failing candidates will receive raw score information for each discipline with the status of Fail, “F”

• Shorter Application Eligibility Period1
• Once application and fee has been submitted for examination, student will have 6 months to schedule a testing appointment.

• Limit on Examination Eligibility1
• Students are limited to successful completion of an exam within 5 years of testing or 5 exam attempts, whichever comes first.
• This applies to exam attempts 01/01/2012 or later.

• Communication Information about Exam Irregularities MAY Accompany Score Reports1
If an irregularity is ruled by the JCNDE, it is the chair’s decision to include a summary of the irregularity in the student’s score report.

• Complete Score History1
• Currently four most recent tests are listed• Starting in 2012: Complete history of scores will be reported
to state board or any other entity requesting scores.

• Time Limits for Retesting as a Result of an Appeal1
• JCNDE allows appeal for a retest within 30 days• Upon processing the application, the candidate will remain
eligible to test for 90 days following the grant of an appeal.
New Item Types1
• Multiple Correct Answers, Extended Matching, and Ordering are coming to the NBDE 2012.
• These new item types will be scored objectively with a well defined scoring rubric.
• Responses must match scoring rubric exactly in order to get a score of “1” for the item. • If there is no exact match, the score for the item is “0.”• There is no partial credit.
