Cam Battley, Executive Vice President, Aurora Cannabis, Inc.Cam Battley is Executive Vice President at Aurora Cannabis, a producer of medical cannabis and cannabis oils under license from Health Canada. He is responsible for business development, external communications, investor relations, government relations, and medical and patient stakeholders. Cam is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cannabis Canada, the trade association of Licensed Producers, and Chair of the Advocacy Committee for the Association.

He previously served as Vice President for licensed producer Bedrocan Canada. With a background as a health sector management consultant, he combines experience in government, health care NGOs, and the biopharmaceutical industries.

In 1997, Cam founded Health Strategy Group, Inc., a management consultancy with global clients, ranging from health professional and patient NGOs, to innovative and generic pharmaceutical firms, and biotechnology and medical device companies.

Before founding Health Strategy Group, Cam was Vice President, Creative of Canada’s largest health care communications firm, providing clients with integrated strategies designed to help health professionals, companies and charitable organizations manage crises, support opinion leaders, educate patients, and improve access to health care services.

Prior to moving to consulting, Cam worked for Eli Lilly and Company, as Director of Communications for Canada. He arrived in the health sector after serving as Legislative Assistant to the Canadian Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, where he was responsible for developing legislation and shepherding it through the House of Commons, as well as negotiating with stakeholder groups and opposition parties.

Cam is also the founder of Wind Gage Communications, Inc., a video and film production company. He is a guest lecturer on leadership development for the World Medical Association, and on leadership communications for the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists. He is a member of the Board of Campaigning for Cancer (South Africa), and a past member of the Board of the Osteoporosis Society of Canada (now Osteoporosis Canada) and the Scarborough (Ontario) Chamber of Commerce.

Cam lives in rural Ontario, Canada with his wife and two children. He coaches boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, and is a Scout leader. He is a trail runner and PADI certified Rescue Diver.

Cole Cacciavillani, Co-Chair & Founder, AphriaCole Cacciavillani, Aphria’s co-founder, is an industrial engineer with 35 years of experience in the agricultural and greenhouse industry. Cole has accumulated expertise of how to best utilize nature’s light and proprietary growing techniques and technologies to create competitive, safe and cost effective products. Mr. Cacciavillani sits on a number of charitable and associative boards including serving as: past Chairman of the Board for Leamington Memorial District Hospital as well as serving on the Hospital’s Foundation Board. Cole was a founding chair of The Ontario Greenhouse Alliance; serves on the board of The Agricultural Institute of Ontario, Police Services Board, F.V. Energy Co-op, and the Leamington Economic Development Committee. Currently he serves as Co-Chair of Fundraising for the Erie Shores Campus Hospice. Mr. Cacciavillani’s dedication to his community has received much recognition, including: the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, which is awarded to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. Ontario’s greenhouse industry recognized Mr. Cacciavillani’s leadership and vision as the founding Chair of the industry organization with its first service award. Recently, Mr. Cacciavillani was awarded the St. Clair alumni distinction award based on the success he pursued within the community.

Dan Clarke B.Sc.(Agr.) CCA-ON, Executive VP Business Development & Agronomy, A&L Canada Laboratories Inc.Dan graduated from the University of Guelph where he received an Associate Diploma in Agriculture as well as a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Dan obtained his Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) designation in 1997 and has over 20 years’ experience in the agribusiness sector consulting in agronomy and business development with growers, major fertilizer companies and global crop protection companies. Neil Closner, CEO & Founder, MedReleafMr. Closner is the CEO and a founder of MedReleaf. Since its inception, Neil has been a key driver in the company’s growth and vision. His responsibilities include oversight of all general management for the organization, strategic leadership on growth opportunities and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit throughout the company. Neil brings nearly two decades of start-up, technology and health care experience to the MedReleaf team. Most recently, he was a member of the senior leadership team at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital where he served as Vice President of Business Development. Neil began his career as a health-care focused investment banker with Salomon Smith Barney (now Citigroup) and has also served as the founder, CEO or on the board of directors for more than half a dozen technology and health-care related start-up companies. Neil is Chairman of the Board of Cannabis Canada Association, representing the majority of Licensed Producers. He also sits on the executive committee and on the board of directors of Technion Canada. Neil studied economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London, England, attained a B.A. from McGill University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Don Cooley, Manager of Community Justice Programs, SpringboardDon Cooley has been the Manager of Community Justice Programs for Springboard since 2005. This followed a lengthy career with the community corrections (probation) section of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. He has been instrumental in developing programs for impaired drivers both with Corrections and Springboard. Weed Out the Risk is the latest initiative with more of a prevention and harm reduction focus. Don has a Masters of Criminology from the University of Toronto.

Eric Costen, Director General, Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Secretariat, Health CanadaEric Costen is currently the Director General of the Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Secretariat, the federal office created to support the Government’s commitment to legalize, regulate and restrict the sale of cannabis.

Jason Fleming, Director, Human Resources, MedReleafJason is an accomplished bilingual HR executive with a decade of varied HR experience. Prior to joining MedReleaf, Jason was the Director of Human Resources with the Seaboard Transport Group, Canada’s largest transporter of petroleum and chemical products. In addition, Jason has provided HR consulting services to a number of organizations in various sectors, including municipal government, architecture and non-profit. He sits on the board of directors for Aboriginal Legal Services as well as the Canadian Freestyle Skiing Association. Jason possesses a BA from the University of Guelph, a Post-Graduate Certificate in HR Management and a Certificate in HR Law; he is a Certified Human Resources Leader with the Ontario Human Resources Professional Association.

John founded 7 ACRES in 2013 after nearly a decade operating in the Canadian medical cannabis sector as producer, patients right advocate and later as an attorney. He was the Executive Director of the Office of Medical Cannabis, and has held a range of health policy positions over his 15 years at Health Canada, including Director, Strategic Policy, Planning and Portfolio Affairs, and Director, First Nations and Inuit Mental Health and Addictions. He has an Honors Degree from the University of Ottawa, and is the proud father of four raucous boys.

Jillian Henderson, Canadian Cannabis ClinicsJillian Henderson graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Communications from Ryerson University in Toronto. After her undergrad degree she set out on some extended travel to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Japan. Next, she earned a second degree, this time a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in Kingston.

Jillian worked as a high school teacher and as a pharmaceutical representative. Then in early 2016 Jillian landed her Dream Job as the Head of Medical Outreach with Canadian Cannabis Clinics. She speaks publicly and educates physicians, patient advocacy groups and community support organizations about benefits and precautions with respect to cannabis as medicine. Audience group sizes range from 5 to150 people.

Bin Huang, President and CEO, Emerald Health Botanicals Bin joined Emerald Health in December 2014. She is an executive leader with over 20 years of experience in life sciences. Her career began with Allelix Crop Technologies, where she spent six years as a plant research scientist. For a number of years Bin was the President and CEO of Cytovax Biotechnologies, a Canadian biotechnology company. Following that, she led WEX Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of publicly listed CK Life Sciences International (Holdings) Inc., as President and CEO. Bin has a PhD in Plant Cell Biology from the University of East Anglia, UK and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Over the past 3.5 years in the Canadian context, David Hyde & Associates has: (1) provided security consulting services to 130+ MMPR/ACMPR license applicants; (2) attended 21 Pre-license Inspections with Health Canada and; (3) worked with 16 Licensed Producer sites. David recently became the first Associate Member of the Cannabis Canada Association and sits as the only Canadian member on the Security Committee for the Foundation of Cannabis Unified Standards (FOCUS).

David holds a M.Sc. (w/Distinction) in Security & Risk Management from the Univ. of Leicester & Certificate in Security Management from the Univ. of Calgary. He completed The Wharton School Development Program for Security Executives and is a Certified Advanced Level C.P.T.E.D. Practitioner. He is certified to perform Threat Risk Assessments and is regularly called upon by legal counsel for expert testimony on the adequacy of facility security programs. Paul Johnston, Executive Officer to the Chief of Police, Ottawa Police ServiceSuperintendent Johnston has been a police officer for 33 years and is a member of the Ottawa Police Service currently working as the Executive Officer to the Chief of Police. In his policing career, Paul has worked in predominately in the Downtown Core, from Patrol duties to the Detective office and specialty sections that include the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section, Human Trafficking Drug Section, Undercover Drug Operations, Integrated Proceeds of Crime Section conducting investigations concerning money laundering and proceeds investigations locally, nationally and international in scale.

Superintendent Johnston has also conducted several secondments including nine years collectively as the Ottawa Police Service representative for the Ottawa Police Service with RCMP in the capacity as investigator in the fields of Intelligence, Drug, Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Counterterrorism.

Superintendent Johnston currently sits on the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Drug Abuse Committee since 2012 which includes the portfolio on the current Cannabis legalization framework.

Norm Keith, Senior Partner, Fasken Martineau DumoulinNorm Keith is a senior partner at Fasken Martineau practicing in the areas of regulatory, employment and white collar defence and investigations across Canada and internationally.

Mr. Keith is the leading occupational health and safety defence lawyer in Canada. He advises and represents employers, officers and directors, and managers in compliance, advisory, and litigation relating to workplace safety and worker’s compensation matters across Canada. Mr. Keith was the first practising lawyer in Canada to earn the Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation. Norm is a highly sought after speaker by employers, business associations, bar associations, universities, and corporate risk management conferences. Alex Kooiman, Lawyer, Quarry Park Law Alex Kooiman is a Quarry Park lawyer based in Calgary, Alberta who practices in the area of medical cannabis regulatory compliance and legal issues related to the cannabis industry. He has counselled licence applicants, investors and lenders on both the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) and the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR) and has advised on the rights and duties of medical marijuana licence holders in the workplace.

Mr. Lawson’s strengths include a deep understanding of retail, commercial and small & medium sized business financing and banking needs. He also directs the strategy and support for their numerous clients in the licensed medical cannabis space. Mr. Lawson has also been a contributor at cannabis industry events in Canada. Prior to joining Alterna, Brian had financial services experience as a commercial banking officer as well as entrepreneurial experience in operating a small business.

Tim Olmstead, Officer in Charge – RCMP Federal Serious & Organized Crime “D” DivisionInspector Tim Olmstead has over 31 years of service with the RCMP split between “E” Division (British Columbia) and “D” Division (Manitoba). He has extensive operational experience in general duty policing services as well as serious crimes investigations and financial crimes investigations. He is currently the Officer in Charge of the RCMP “D” Division Federal Serious & Organized Crime unit and oversees major organized crime investigations conducted by both the RCMP and the Manitoba Integrated Organized Crime Task Force. He also oversees national security matters, border integrity matters, financial crimes and money laundering investigations, politically sensitive investigations, and the “Jetway” unit within the province.

Inspector Olmstead holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University and has completed multiple courses at Simon Fraser University School of Business Administration, specializing in accounting.

Inspector Olmstead was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. He enjoys riding his motorcycle and cruising west coast waters in his sailboat.

Shane Morris, Vice-President, Quality Assurance and Scientific Affairs, HydropothecaryDr. Morris joined Hydropothecary as Vice-President, Stakeholder Relations and Scientific Affairs in July 2015. He took over responsibility for Quality Assurance in November 2016 and became designated under the ACMPR as the senior person in charge (SPIC) in September 2016. Prior to joining Hydropothecary he held various senior positions with the Government of Canada since 2005, including most recently serving as Director, Policy Leadership and Reporting at the Major Projects Management Office at Natural Resources Canada.

Dr. Morris has fifteen years of experience at the science-policy interface working on high profile risk issues within the Canadian public service. He has held senior positions and executive appointments at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Public Health Agency of Canada, and Treasury Board Secretariat where he advised cabinet on regulatory issues. Dr. Morris holds a doctorate from the National University of Ireland in biotechnology and publishes/lectures widely in the area of regulation, risk and policy.

Greg Patterson, President & CEO, A&L Canada Laboratories Inc.Mr. Greg Patterson was one of the principal founding members of A&L Canada and is currently President and CEO and acts as the chief agronomist. His primary role is corporate administration, and customer support and service. Mr. Patterson obtained an honors degree in agriculture from the University of Guelph, in 1978 and has been a professional agronomist for over thirty years. He works closely with all agricultural clients to support the service provided by his company. He was one of the first people in Canada to earn the designate as a Certified Crop Consultant. As part of ongoing customer support he personally conducts in depth agronomy and fertility training seminars for field, horticultural and specialty (Turf, Viticulture, and Silviculture) crops. A&L Canada has a research division that deals with crop production issues around best management practices and nutrition. Mr. Patterson has been involved in a wide number of research collaborations with Grower Associations, Provincial and Federal Government Research Agencies such as OMAFRA, AAFC, Universities and private companies.

Dr. Danial Schecter, Co-founder, Cannabinoid Medical Clinic (CMClinic)Dr. Danial Schecter is co-founder of the Cannabinoid Medical Clinic (CMClinic) and a practicing family physician. His strong interest in the therapeutic use of cannabinoids was fostered by working alongside some of Canada’s leading researchers in the field of medical cannabis. Dr. Schecter has become a recognized medical expert in the field of prescription cannabinoids and medical cannabis, given numerous seminars to health care practitioners, the general public and has developed educational programs on this subject. Dr. Schecter spearheaded the creation of the Patient Handbook on Medical Cannabis used by many organizations as a patient education tool. In addition to cannabinoid medicine, Dr. Schecter’s clinical interests include delivering a high standard of care to at risk elderly and palliative care patients through housecalls. Along with his other clinical duties Dr. Schecter continues to be an active hospitalist at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, ON.

Christopher Stone, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs, Broken Coast CannabisChristopher Stone initiated his career working in microbiology laboratories culturing quality systems in both regulated and non-regulated production companies in the areas of food, pharmaceuticals, natural health products, and biotechnology. He is currently working on quality assurance and regulatory affairs for Broken Coast Cannabis, a licensed producer on Vancouver Island, as well as supporting the Cannabis Canada Association through the Committee on Regulations.

Alexis Vegh, Coordinator of Substance Abuse Programs, SpringboardAlexis Vegh is the Coordinator of Substance Abuse Programs and has worked with Springboard in various capacities since 2005, including a group counseling program for impaired drivers. She has also worked with the Toronto District School Board as an Attendance Counselor and has been delivering Weed Out the Risk to TDSB students since 2013. In addition to a BA from the University of Toronto, Alexis has diplomas in Recreation and Addiction Counseling.
