At the request of Gods Maharishi Agastya Muni curtailed its rise. In the Trethayug Ram is said to have spent 11 out of 14 years of exile in the forests of Chitrakoot. In

From 300 BC to 200 AD when Buddhism and Jainism prospered in this region, Sanchi and Vidisha became great centers of learning and expansions of religion.
