Part One: Installing the Compliance Agent To determine if your computer has the security software needed to be compliant with National Life Group’s Anti-Virus Software and Encryption Compliance Requirement you must download and run Brite Computers’ Compliance Agent. Please DO NOT remove any current anti-virus software from your computer before installing the COMPLIANCE AGENT.

Please follow the instructions below:

1. Go to the National Life Group Compliance Verification website at: http://nlgroup.britecomputers.com/overview_ep_42.html

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the appropriate Compliance Agent package: either the 32-bit or 64-bit package. If you are unsure which package to select please read the Question and Answer section on the following page (page 3).

2. After you click the appropriate package this window will appear. Click the “Open” button. Please Note: This action may take a few minutes before completing, especially if you are working with WIFI and not a direct internet connection. (Please proceed to step 3 / page 4).

Q: Which compliance agent should I download? 32-bit / 64-bit?

A: Right Click on “My Computer”, and select “Properties”. You will see the following on a Windows 7, 32-bit operating system.

This is an example of Windows XP Professional. There is no 64-bit designation, which designates this system as a 32-bit operating system.

Please Note: Most PCs are 32-bit. If you purchased a desktop or laptop within the last year with more than 4GB of memory, you may have purchased a 64-bit operating system.

Q: What happens if I install the 64-bit package on a 32-bit operating system?

A: You will see this error message. Click “OK” and go back to the beginning and download the 32-bit package.

Q: What do I do if I get the following error message: “This installation package is not supported by this processor type.”

A: You have downloaded a 32-bit package on a 64-bit operating system or vice versa. Please go back and select the correct version.

4. Click the “Next” button to install the Compliance Agent. Please Note: If your computer should open a warning window, click on the “I Agree” button, “OK” or other positive option given.

6. Once registration is complete this window will appear. Click the “Close” button.

8. The following text box will appear. Click on “Yes” to restart your computer.

This window will appear as the program shuts down.

9. If the Compliance Agent did not automatically reboot your computer please restart your computer. When the computer has rebooted you will see a new icon in the lower right corner of your screen in the system tray. This Golden Lock icon represents the Compliance Agent.

The Compliance Agent is now scanning for any current and functioning anti-virus and full-disk or media encryption software. During this process PLEASE ensure your computer is connected to the internet. Please Note: During the scan you may receive pop-up warnings informing you that your system is non-compliant. If the Compliance Agent reports that the Compliance Blade and the Firewall blade are non-functional, this is a temporary state. The Compliance Agent is working and will update appropriately once the Agent completes starting initial services or the device automatically connects to the National Life Group's Endpoint Security Server.

Below is an example of a computer showing a compliance warning. Please note the results of your compliance scan and purchase the appropriate software package described below: 1. Total Security Package ($69): Purchase this package if your computer needs both anti-virus and encryption software.

2. Encryption Package ($55): Purchase this package if your computer only needs encryption software. 3. Anti-Virus Package ($38): Purchase this package if your computer only needs anti-virus software.

Information on how to back-up your data can be found at the following link: Windows Back-Up Procedure

4. Verify that your computer is password protected. If you do not currently use a password to access your computer, you will need to do so once the computer is encrypted. Please set-up a Windows password before downloading any software.

The software package you purchased will be pushed to your computer by Brite Computers. This process can take between 12-24 hours, although it may likely occur sooner.

To Ensure Proper Delivery of the Software:

• Your system must be running and connected to the Internet.

• If your computer goes into a “sleep” mode after prolonged inactivity, the software download process will pause until you turn the machine back on.

1. Once your computer starts to receive the software, you may be notified in your computer’s Endpoint Security Agent (the “Golden Lock” Icon on the lower left corner of your screen) that the software is downloading.

2. You will receive notification that your device is updating. You may choose to postpone the installation for up to 4 hours, at which time the software will automatically install. To start the process immediately, choose the “Install Now” button.

Page 16: National Life Group Endpoint Security Installation …britecomputers.3dcartstores.com/assets/images/Documents...Once your computer starts to receive the software, you may be notified

16

3. You will get a prompt that says you may need to perform a reboot. Clicking “OK” will allow the system to reboot automatically upon completion of the installation.

4. After the device reboots and you log into Windows the Endpoint Agent (the Golden Lock icon) will indicate that your security software is now active and your computer is protected. You should see a green box checked as “Compliant.”

If you purchased the Anti-Virus (Anti-Malware) package your system will now begin to download the latest updates and DAT files. Your system may also begin an initial scan of your device.

PLEASE NOTE: If you purchased the Encryption Package your computer will begin encrypting your hard drive in the background. You will also be prompted to encrypt USB drives. Please carefully read more about this important information on the following page (page 18).

Page 17: National Life Group Endpoint Security Installation …britecomputers.3dcartstores.com/assets/images/Documents...Once your computer starts to receive the software, you may be notified

17

Part Four: Information for USB Devices and Smart Phones CAUTION: Once your desktop or laptop is encrypted, please be cautious when connecting a

device to it via a USB cable. The encryption software will automatically prompt the pop-up window below. Please Note: Do not encrypt your personal entertainment devices, such as an iPod, iPad, or camera. Please select “Cancel.” If you do not select cancel your device (i.e., iPod, camera) will become inoperable.

Encrypting Your Thumb Drive

Unlike personal entertainment devices you must encrypt client data transferred to a thumb drive as these are easily lost or stolen. When you insert the thumb drive you will see the same message shown above. If you intend to transfer data from your computer to the thumb drive then select “Encrypt”. In fact, if you do not select encrypt the security software will not let you transfer data stored on your encrypted laptop or desktop to the thumb drive.

Conversely, if you are simply copying a file(s) from a thumb drive or external hard drive to your computer, it is not absolutely necessary for you to encrypt the device. For example, you would not want to encrypt a thumb drive lent to you by a friend so you can copy a file they are sharing. In that situation, select “cancel” when asked whether you would like to encrypt the device.

Smart Phone Set-Up

If you previously synchronized your smart phone with your computer you need to change the process dependent on the phone type. Brite’s instructions for the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry can be found in the FAQ section at:

http://nlgroup.britecomputers.com/FAQs_ep_41.html#Smartphone

There you will find a link to a detailed five-page instructional document. This information is also important if you currently use a smart phone to read NLGroup-related email, it is required for you to minimally create a password to access your phone.
