    Glad To See You, ComeAgain.

This number closes the first year forthe National Magazine. The year hasbeen an interesting one for the venture.

We must confess that on the twentiethof last February we were about to "giveup the ship." For that was the date ofgoing to press ; yet only fourteen had responded with their subscriptions. Wehad always had confidence in the enterprise, for we believed that there wasamong us all an evident need for a closeracquaintance, such an intimate acquaintance as only a national periodical couldbring. But on the twentieth of Februarywe had nothing upon which to go topress but faith. However, our faithhad dwindled to such a point that we.did not care to risk it in the hands ofthe printer. Instead, we invested it,along with eighteen plunks, sending outa little postal to all members everywherewhose names we had. It grew. Thebrothers began to respond, and, they arestill coming. We were glad to see you,and we know you were glad to see the

Magazine. Do you wish the Magazineto continue? If so, write us at once andsay so in such unmisakable terms thatthe National Council will insure its continuance.

We regret the lack of space to publishall the good words that we have receivedregarding the Magazine. Here are afew of the remarks:

"I was much pleased with the materialand make-up of the sample. I am enclosing check for $1.50 for my subscription."

"Received the last two numbers of theNews Letter. They are certainly great."

OF PHI DELTA KAPPA n"You have certainly justified a prominent place in the Fraternity for the

Magazine. It not only must, but willstay."

"I shall do all I can next year to makethe subscription price of the National

Magazine a part of the dues for thelocal chapter."

    4T like the enterprise."

But this compliment we prize most ofall?(Printer please set in italics),"Will you kindly inform me ivhere Ican buy a pin. I gave mine to my nanceand during the last month she lost it. We(Note the first person plural.?Ed.) aredesirous of replacing it. It was boughtinNew York City and that is all I know

about it."The Brother enclosed his subscription,

and we sent him the Magazine, which,be it said, carries the ad of our NationalJeweler.

Personal, to the Brother only. Pleasesend us a write-up of the wedding. Ifthe National Council permits us to continue with the Magazine, we will publishyour write-up in the next number. Congratulations.

This causes us to ramble. We recently received this little note from our

Brother Van Slyck, Sec. of KansasAlumni Chapter:

"I wish to give you my personal invitation to my wedding to Miss HazelCanfield of El Reno; Okla., next Tuesday, June sixths"But Brother Van SLyck had failed totell us where the ceremony was to takeplace, so the wedding had to get alongwithout the National Magazine's beingofficially represented. Besides, the letter was not mailed till the third, and

reached us on the very date of the bigevent. Anyway, since we have alreadygone through the great ordeal,?we arenot shaken in Brother Van Slyck's goodfaith, for we know what it means to be

under the great nervous tension. The National Magazine extends con

gratulations, and we know all the readers will do the same. Brother and Mrs.

Van Slyck are at home this summer at832 Arkansas street, Lawrence, Kansas. After Sept. 1, they will live at PrattKansas, Brother Van Slyck having beenelected principal of the Pratt HighSchool.

This leads to another thought. Judging from expressions of several of the

brothers that we have met recently, therepromises to be several matrimonial ventures among our brotherhood. If theNational Magazine continues, why not

have a page next November devoted towedding announcements? No chargewill be made for the space.

The Managing Editor has recentlymoved with his family to Kansas City,Mo., and has accepted a permanent posi

tion as the Missouri Valley representative of the World Book Company, Yonkers, New York. Our residence is at 2801

    E. 6th St. and our latch string is alwaysout to members of the Fraternity, theirfamilies, and near friends.

Did you receive all the numbers ofVolume One? If not, please drop us apostal and we shall be glad to mail youany missing numbers.

    We are inreceipt

of Vol. I, No. 1 ofthe "Journal of Delinquency," a bi

12 THE NATIONAL NEWS LETTERinteresting material in this rather unde

veloped field. The Managing Editor isour Past-President, J. Harold Williams,

who, we are pleased to announce, recently received his Ph. D. from the Education Department of Stanford. Congratulations to the "Journal" and to our Doctor Williams.

We have several plans for improvement of the National News Letter, should it be continued. At the time ofgoing to press it appears very doubtfulthat we shall have the privilege of attending the National Council meetingand talking the matter over at first handwith the members of the Council. Butwhether we go or not, we shall have adetailed report ready for the Council together with suggestions for continuingthe Magazine and improving it.

We had the pleasure of a visit withour National Secretary Warren recently

while he was on his way to Chicago.Brother Warren has always been abooster for the National Magazine, notonly at long distance, but when he calledon us he was full of ideas for its continuance and success.

Readers of the Magazine may be interested to know what chapters are rep

resented in our subscription list. Wehave not had time to check the list overcarefully, but our inspection of it showsa clubbing list of subscribers from

Texas, California, Washington, Missouri, Stanford, Indiana, Kansas, Cornell and Minnesota. We have individualsubscriptions from Texas, Minnesota,

Kansas, Indiana, Washington, California, Stanford, Cornell, Missouri,Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Chicago, Pittsburg, Columbia and Harvard.

Very shortly the National Council willmeet and the National Magazine will,no doubt, either be declared a thing of

the past, or it will be made a permanentpart of our National organization plan.

Whatever the National Council may do,we have no apologies to offer for thefaith we have shown in the possibilitiesof a National organ toward the realization of the best that there is in our aimsas a dynamic educational organization.

We must move, forward, and if we areever to have a unity of purpose and action, we must know each other. Thebetter we know each other the better weshall pull together. To secure among usthat closer acquaintance and understanding, is probably the greatest presentfunction that a National periodical can

perform,?and it is by no means an unimportant one.

    WashingtonPresident Henrv Suzzallo.

Word has just been received from theNational Secretary, Brother Warren, that the Executive Committee has givenits unanimous approval to the election ofHenry Suzzallo to honorary membershipin the Nu chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.Dr. Suzzallo was elected to the presi

dency of the University of Washingtonlast May. At that time he was professorof philosophy in Teachers' College, Columbia University. Dr. Suzzallo is anactive member of the Columbia chapter.Dr. Suzzallo was formerally inductedinto office as president: of the Universityof Washington on last March 20-21.
