Access:• Dedicated demarcated

pedestrian ramp from both Rivonia Road and West Street.

Egress:• Emergency egress in event of

all emergencies and in accordance with Part T – Fire Protection.

• Fire safety zone on every level within the fire escape stairwell for wheelchairs and provide emergency evacuation chairs.

Access Control:• Revolving doors large enough

to accommodate a wheel chair and a ‘go slow’ setting.

• Side doors flank the revolving door to provide additional ease of access.

• Internal security points use electrically operated glass barriers with one dedicated for wheel chair access.

• All access cards control points are height sensitive.

Vertical Circulation:• Destination controlled elevators

with new PORT technology –visual, sound and card controlled.

Safe Use of Facilities in the Building:• 200 seater auditorium, with dedicated space for 3 wheelchairs.• Gym facilities with dedicated shower facilities on the same level (access

controlled to control users).• Paraplegic ablution facilities on every level.• Walkways on office plates wide enough to accommodate wheelchair

turning radii at every intersections.• Electrically operated access doors at every office levels.• Dedicated and demarcated disabled parking bays around all parking

level lift lobbies.

Equality for all Users:• Créche to cater for up to 90 babies (between years of 0 to 3 years)• Nursing rooms• Prayer room facilities• Inter‐denominational prayer room• Eastern toilets on every second level and public meeting rooms

Maximum Indoor User Comfort:• Acoustic ceilings throughout atrium, lobby & office plates with

introduction of white noise to control noise levels in the office.• High performance double glazing throughout to increase natural light

while controlling glare and solar heat gain.• Minimum 8m from source of natural light or external views.• Low VOC building materials – paint, carpet adhesives, silicone etc.• 4 Green Star rated building for Design and As‐Built Categories.

Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993)An employer's responsibilities in terms of section 8(1) are to provide and maintain, as far as is reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of his employees.An employer or self‐employed person shall, in terms of section 9(1)conduct his undertaking in such a manner as to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that persons other than those in his employment who may be directly affected by his activities are not thereby exposed to hazards to their health or safety.


The Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 2000 (Act No. 4 of 2000)Section 9 states thatno person may unfairly discriminate against any person on the ground of disability, including –(a) denying or removing from any person who has a disability, any supporting or enabling facility necessary for their functioning in society;(b) contravening the code of practice or regulations of the South African Bureau of Standards that govern environmental accessibility;(c) failing to eliminate obstacles that unfairly limit or restrict persons with disabilities from enjoying equal opportunities or failing to take steps to reasonably accommodate the needs of such persons.Discrimination as defined by the Act meansany act or omission, including a policy, law, rule, practice, condition or situation which directly or indirectly –(a) imposes burdens, obligations or disadvantages on; or(b) withholds benefits, opportunities or advantages from, any person on one or more of the prohibited grounds.The Act defines prohibited grounds as(a) race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language and birth
