of equestrian and field sports.
To fulfill our mission, NSLM is dedicated to providing educational programs
and greater access to the public, students and virtual visitors.
TheNational SportingLibrarywas
founded in 1954, out of a desire to ensure book collections
on equestrian and field sports remain intact and preserved.
The intent of the visionary founders was to ensure their collections would
be available to the public and future generations for the purpose of awareness,
education, research and enjoyment. Through art andliterature, the history, heritage and tradition of equestrian, hunting and
fishing pursuits are told, educating future generations.NSLM’s book and art collections tell a very important story of our country's
history and the various roles these sporting pursuits play in recreation, society,
wildlife habitat and preserving open space. 2
