ABOUT WEBINAR SUB THEMES
ABOUT CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF GUJARAT
We are living in the age of Science and Technology. Technology has become integral part of our daily
living. Out of several dimensions of life, health is the super most important and technology has provided
significant support to all of us in maintaining the positivity in health and wellbeing, at individual, family and
society level along with national level at large. This would have become possible by basic scientific
research in the field of Bioscience and by transforming the research outcome in the form of technology to
be used by common man without any distinction in between cast, creed and religion. Nano science and
nanotechnology has been proved to be the most effective tool providing support to health management
system. In the situation of a disastrous microbial, bacterial and viral pandemic like COVID 19, role of Nano-
biotechnological research and its application to combat such situations becomes more pertinent. This
webinar is being organized to discuss various horizons of Nano-biotechnological research and its use in
overcoming such deadly situation. Basic principles of research, possible effective technology transfer and
therapeutic utility of such technology in fighting with COVID 19 pandemic like fatal conditions and
socioeconomic aspects involved will be addressed by learned speakers.
Established by Parliament of India through the Central Universities Act (2009), Central University of Gujarat
(CUG) considers its main objectives to be dissemination and advancement of knowledge creation and
sharing. The University is committed to make special provisions for integrated and interdisciplinary
courses, to educate and train human resources for the country's development, to initiate appropriate
measures for promoting innovation in teaching and learning and to pay special attention to improve the
social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, especially pertaining to their intellectual,
academic and cultural development. The University was ranked overall 60th in India and 2nd among all the
Universities in Gujarat in NIRF 2016 rankings. According to NIRF 2017, the University ranked among the top
150 Universities in the country.
SCHOOL OF LIFE SCIENCES (SLS)Ever since its inception in 2010 as an independent school, the School of Life Sciences has demonstrated
an unfailing commitment towards imparting quality education and training as well as promoting advance
research in the frontier areas of biological sciences. The M.Sc. students earn knowledge and training in the
basics as well as advances in Life Sciences through exposure to modern tools and techniques. Students
admitted in Ph.D. program are offered one-year coursework covering various aspects of techniques and
research methodology in biological sciences. The nature of course is interdisciplinary, with close interface
between various disciplines of biological sciences.
SCHOOL OF NANO SCIENCES (SNS)The Nanosciences programme at the Central University of Gujarat made its modest beginnings in July 2012
with strong academic and infrastructure supports. The School of Nano Sciences at Central University of
Gujarat, Gandhinagar is still in its infancy and we at the School hope to focus on application of
Nanotechnology in Energy, Agriculture and Medicine.
There are currently two programmes being conducted by the School- the M.Phil-Ph.D(Nano Sciences) and
the M.Sc (Nano Technology).
(1) Bioscientific interventions in COVID 19 pandemic situation
(2) Role of Nanotechnology in therapeutic utility of basic Bioscience research
(3) Socio-economic paradigm of the management of pandemic conditions
(4) Biosafety and ethical issues related to the technology application
(5) Role of individual, society and state in combating the pandemic like conditions
