How is vulcanic eruption made?

Vulcanic eruptions

Volcanoes are made when two tectonic plates come together. When these two plates meet, one of them (usually the oceanic plate) goes under the continental plate. Afterwards, it melts and makes magma (inside the magma chamber), and the pressure builds up until the magma bursts through the Earth's crust.

Did you know that…

There are about 1300 active vulcanos on the Earth.

Most of the vulcanos are under water, so we can’t see them, but about500 vulcanos are famous mountains.

The biggest vulcanic crater is the crater of Toba vulcano on Sumatra,Indonesia.

Etna vulcano on Sicily is one of the most active world vulcanos. It has erupted more than 150 times since 1500 before Christ when it Was reported officially for the first time.

The word „vulcano” comes from the name of a Roman god of fire Vulcanus.

Tsunami

Page 13: Natural catasrophes

A tsunami is a chain of fast moving waves in the ocean caused by powerful earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.

Tsunami has a very long wave. It can be hundreds of kilometers long. Usually, tsunami starts suddenly.

The waves travel at a great speed across an ocean with little energy loss.

They can remove sand from beaches, destroy trees, toss and drag vehicles, damage houses and even destroy whole towns.
