Overview
Naviance is a comprehensive online tool created to assist middle and
high school students (and parents) with academic, career, and college
planning.

Overview of Naviance at RDMS
Middle School students have access to The Learning Styles Inventory (7th
grade) and The Career Key (8th grade) in Naviance. You can uncover valuable information about yourself as a student, which will be helpful to you
now and in the future.
(Today we’ll discuss Learning Styles & you’ll receive a Naviance account)
Naviance at RDMS: Learning Styles
• Discovering your Learning Style will allow you to reach your maximum potential as a student
• A person’s Learning Style includes over 18 areas. This includes your preferences of:
Temperature, light, sound, food, working with others, working alone, how you receive information (in-take) and produce information (out-put) (Visual, Aural, Read/Write, Kinesthetic)

• The Naviance Learning Styles Inventory analyzes all of these 18+ areas
• BUT, VARK only focuses on 1 area: How you prefer to receive information (in-take) and process information (out-put) when
(Visual, Aural, Read/Write, Kinesthetic)
IT’S POSSIBLE TO HAVE MORE THAN 1 LEARNING STYLE!!

• Visual learners: Prefer information in the form of pictures
and graphic imagesLike to use charts, diagrams, pictures,
shapes, highlighters, graphic organizers, & colorful designs
• Aural learners:Prefer information that is heard or spokenLike to use audiotapes, group discussions,
lectures, talking through things with other people, tutorials (online Math book)

• Read/Write learners: Prefer information displayed as written wordsLike to use handouts, worksheets, textbooks,
powerpoint, lists, manuals, glossaries; re-read notes and re-write notes each night
• Kinesthetic learners:Prefer to experience and practice informationLike to use real-life examples, scenarios,
videos of “real” things, field trips, lab experiments, exhibits (ex: Art trip to MOMA), using your 5 senses, demonstrating the lesson

What Is Naviance Used For in High School?
• Plan your courses
• Build your resume (organize extracurricular activities, sports, work experience, volunteering, awards, courses)
• Complete the college application process Search for colleges Apply to colleges Obtain teacher recommendations for college
applications

Your Naviance Account
• Your Naviance account is private! All results are only viewed by you, your parents and your guidance counselor
• Your account stays with you throughout high school
• Be sure to use a password you will remember (most students use the same password as your school email account)
• You can put your account information in a safe place (Y drive/USB memory stick)

• Go to www.connection.naviance.com/rdrms
• Click on “I need to register”. Type in registration code on the next page and click “Register”.
• Use River Dell email ([email protected])
• Type in password (at least 6 characters)- case sensitive
• Check confidentiality box
• Complete registration
