TECHNICAL WHITEPAPER

Navisworks: Assigning Colors for Revit Systems

When importing an Autodesk® Revit® model into Autodesk® Navisworks®, the program will apply shading based on the material’s shading properties. It is helpful for coordination to be able to quickly identify the systems, and the easiest way to do that is by assigning colors to the systems using the Navisworks Appearance Profiler.

The appearance profiler button can be found on the Home tab of the ribbon.

Set Up the Filters

My preference is to leverage the System Classification or the System Abbreviation. System Abbreviation is the easiest to replicate and minimizes user error related to mistyping of system names.

The filters are set up using:

■ System Abbreviation such as SA

■ System Classification such as Supply Air

■ Category such as Lighting Fixtures

Default Using Appearance Profiler

Save/Load the Filters

When you finish setting up these filters you should save them to a shared location for you and other users to be able to quickly load them on future projects.

Once a profile has been saved, simply click the Load button in the Appearance Profiler dialogue box on your next project. Browse to the previously saved file and click Open. After it is loaded, click the Run button to apply the filers to the Elements in the Navis-works model.

View the Model

Set the Render Style to Shaded which can be found on the Viewport ribbon.
