A Message From Our Board Chair

Dear Friends,

On behalf of my Board colleagues, I am pleased to present the 2009-2010 Annual Report. Just a quick glance at the lengthy lists of donor names suggests an unmistakable conclusion: that North Country School and Camp Treetops continue to prosper thanks to an abundance of loyal and generous supporters. Thank you, everyone—alumni, parents, trustees, staff, and friends—for including us in your giving, especially when so many worthy causes are competing for your attention and resources. We are aware of the tough choices and all the more appreciative of your support.

While any change comes with mixed feelings, I hope you’ll welcome the move to this paperless format. In these tight fiscal times, the cost savings are significant (and can, for instance, supply additional scholarships). The reduction in paper use, with the corresponding decrease in our carbon footprint, is only fitting for an institution as committed to sustainability and environmental leadership as we are.

Indeed, I’m proud of both our jump to a paperless Annual Report and the generosity that it documents. Many thanks again.

Warm regards,

Matthew DavidsonCTT 62-67, Camp parent 96-05, Trustee 91-present, Board Chair

Greetings from Lake Placid

With our first jolt of subzero weather behind us and the Treetops winter reunion just ahead, we are settling into the rhythms of Adirondack winter. As I did last year at this time, I’m happy to report that despite the ongoing economic lethargy, North Country School and Camp Treetops are thriving.

In this past summer and the school year under way, both Camp and School have enjoyed full enrollments of interesting children from all over the country and abroad. Outstanding faculty and Camp staff continue to provide terrific programs that take young people outdoors, stretch their imaginations, and build community. On the financial end, we have balanced our eighth consecutive budget, exceeded our highest-ever Annual Fund goal (with a total of $827,543), and raised overall an impressive sum of more than $1.25 million.

These numbers bode well for the enormously ambitious road ahead. As many of you know, we are in the early stages of a capital campaign for Treetops and NCS. Its major goals are to provide several much needed imperatives: annual giving of $1 million, upgraded and environmentally-friendly facilities, expanded scholarship funding to attract diverse campers and students, and the resources to properly reward the staff who care for them so expertly.

These are exciting times for us. To be successful, we’ll need your continued involvement, interest, and support. Thank you for being an integral part of this extraordinary community.

Best wishes,
