    A very good morning to the distinguished guests, teachers and our dear students. I am

    pleased to welcome you all to the Annual Day celebrations of the Bharati College Non

    Collegiate Centre today, on 9th April 2017. The Bharati College NCWEB centre has had a

    history of valuable contribution towards all round development of the students who enrol

    here, by providing them the best teachers and a vibrant academic as well as cultural

    environment. Each year, we at the centre strive to raise the bar for ourselves and make the

    educational experience more rewarding for our students.

    We are proud to have with us today Mrs. Rekha Sharma, member, National Commission

    for Women, Government of India as our Chief Guest.

    To introduce her briefly, Mrs. Rekha Sharma is an alumna of the prestigious DAV College,

    Dehradun (Uttarakhand). She is a graduate in Political Science, History and English

    Literature with a Diploma in Marketing and Advertising, Fashion Designing and Higher

    Diploma in Computers System Management. She has been an erstwhile Member of

    District Consumer & Redressal Forum with the Govt. of Haryana. Running her own event

    management centre by the name of Chhavi, she has organized various engrossing

    seminars and debates, talk shows and seminars on meaningful social relevant events

    affecting women at large. She has to her credit of establishing a registered NGO called

    Haryana Mahila Uthan Samiti which works for the empowerment of rural women of

    Haryana. She has been a Social Media activist since the proliferation of internet

    environment in the country. We are honoured to welcome her to our function today.

    Also with us are the blessings of our enterprising and visionary Director, Dr. Anju Gupta,

    who has infused tremendous energy into the system with her exceptional leadership

    qualities and her undying zeal to support the cause of empowerment of women through

    quality education.

    We are encouraged by the continued support of our college principal, Dr. Mukti Sanyal,

    who besides being a seasoned academic and senior teacher of the Department of English,

    has always offered constant support to the NCWEB centre and the whole enterprise of

    providing the best educational environment to our students. Continuing the rich tradition

    of academic and cultural excellence, it is my pleasure to present to you the annual report,

    detailing how the Bharati College NCWEB Centre has marked an exciting and fun-filled

    academic session 2016-17.

    Orientation Program, 7th August 2016

    An Orientation Program for new students was held at the Bharati College NCWEB centre

    10 am onwards on 7thAugust, the first day of the new academic session 2016-17. The

    Teacher in Charge Dr. Saloni Gupta welcomed and addressed the students, divided

  • according to their courses, BA and B.Com in the Seminar room and the Amphitheatre

    respectively. After presenting a brief introduction to the unique setup of the NCWEB, she

    introduced the centre and the facilities available here. Dr. Gupta spoke about the schedule

    of classes, the Book Bank, Financial Aid, cultural and academic activities of the centre, the

    centre magazine and other useful opportunities to enable the girls get the best out of their

    time. She also made important announcements regarding the upcoming Nukkad Natak

    competition and personality development opportunities. Thereafter the teachers teaching

    the first years introduced themselves and interacted with the students. At the initiative of

    the Teacher in Charge, the students were also served token refreshment after the detailed

    orientation.

    70th Independence Day Celebrations

    70th Independence Day of the nation was celebrated at the Bharati College NCWEB Centre

    on 14th August 2016, 11 am onwards (during the break), in the central lawns at the unique

    initiative of the Teacher In Charge Dr. Saloni Gupta. All the teachers and students of the

    centre gathered in the waterproof tent erected at the central lawns to join in the

  • celebrations. The program compered by Dr. Savita Jemini of the Hindi Department began

    with hoisting of the National Tricolor by the College Principal Dr. Sandhya Jain, followed

    by singing of the National Song and the National Anthem. Dr. Sandhya in her opening

    address to the gathering, reminded us about the immense significance of the day and the

    great sacrifices made by our national leaders as well as martyred revolutionaries and

    soldiers in achieving independence.

    Thereafter, a brief cultural program with a song and dance performance by the students

    was presented. A faculty member, Dr. Rajinder Singh also sang a patriotic song to mark

    the occasion. Mr. Rajesh Kumar, faculty member, spoke inspiring words in his address to

    highlight the responsibility of the young girls in leading the nation to a glorious future as

    true patriots and aware citizens. Finally, Dr. Saloni Gupta in her motivational and realistic

    speech spoke about many more frontiers to be conquered in order to achieve true

    independence: farmer's rights and security, women's safety, students' nationalism to name

    a few. On this occasion, she also announced a voluntary donation-based book bank for the

    students to an enthusiastic response by all the teachers of the centre who donated many of

    their personal books to the centre for the benefit of the needy students. A brief photo

    session was held to save remembrances of the remarkable and unique celebrations at the

    centre. Chocolates were also distributed amongst the students and members of the staff.

    The program ended with a renewed feeling of commitment to the country and was greatly

    enjoyed by one and all.

    Yoga Program

    A free of cost Yoga program was launched for the students and teachers of the centre on

    4th September 2016. It was led by experienced Yoga teachers and was conducted from 8

    am to 9 am. Students were provided counselling and knowledge of various yoga asanas to

    improve their lifestyle and efficiency. The program was successful and attended by a

    large number of students.

  • Freshers Welcome

    A vibrant Fresher's Welcome was organised on 16th October 2016 with Dr. Anupama

    Mahajan, Associate Professor, Dept of Commerce, Bharati College as the Guest of honour.

    The many exciting competitions like the coveted Miss Fresher (in four rounds including

    traditional and western costume, talent round and Q&A round), Singing, Poetry recitation

    and Dance (solo and group) saw a huge participation from students from all courses. A lot

    of filler events such as impromptu quiz, tongue twisters, dance, singing and general

    awareness information kept the audience entertained in between various competitions.

    Self-composed Poetry was also recited by two teachers of the Department of English. The

    vibrant and fun-filled event ended with crowning of Miss Fresher and the two runner-ups,

    and refreshments for both the students and the staff. It was conducted in a lively and

    organised manner by Ms. Kalyanee Rajan helped by Dr. Savita Pathak.

  • Inter-Centre competition

    Inter-Centre competition was conducted on 1st January 2017 with the ceremonial lamp-

    lighting by the college Principal, Dr. Mukti Sanyal and the teacher-in-charge, Dr. Saloni

    Gupta. Many interactive and creative activities like Fireless Cooking, Mehendi/Tattoo

    competition, Rangoli Competition, Mimicry Competition, On-the-spot Creative Writing,

    Short Skit competition and General Awareness Quiz were organised. The General

    Awareness Quiz was the highlight of the event which was very meticulously organised by

    Dr. J.S. Kadyan. It was beautifully conducted by Ms. Shashi Khurana and Ms. Anjali

    Singh. Sh. Durga Singh and Dr. Ghan Shyam Bairwa helped them by maintaining a score

    card. The competitions saw a lot of participation from students of various other NCWEB

    centres and were thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Prizes were distributed at the end of

    the event and refreshments were served to the participants.

  • Results: In the short-skit competition, the first prize went to the Bharati College team. The

    best actress award went to Himani Verma of Bharati College and the best script award

    went to Keshav Mahavidhyalaya.

    In the Mehndi competition, the first prize went to Urmila of Kalindi College, second prize

    went to Nagma of Bharati College and the third prize went to Deepanshi of JDM College.

    In the Rangoli competition, the first prize went to Varsha and Niharika of Maitreyi

    College, second prize went to Anu and Khushboo of Jesus and Mary College and the third

    prize went to Manisha and Srishti of Bharati College.

    In the Fireless cooking competition, there were two prizes. The first prize went to Harmeet

    Kaur and Richa of Bharati College and second prize went to Etansha and Shweta of GGS

    College of Commerce.

    In the Quiz competition, the first prize went to Pooja and Priyanka of Vivekanand College

    and the second prize went to Neha and Sheetal of Bharati College.

    In the mimicry competition, the first prize went to Komal of JDM College and the second

    prize went to Shirali of Bharati College.

    In the creative writing in the Hindi section, the first prize went to Sonali of Maitreyi

    College, second prize went to Naina Gupta of Bharati College and third prize went to

    Himanshi of Keshav Mahavidyalaya. In the English section, the first prize went to Riya of

    Hansraj College and the second prize went to Shirali of Bharati College.

  • Annual Sports Day

    The Annual Sports Day event was organised on 19th February 2017 with many innovative

    and competitive sports competitions that were introduced for the first time. Games like

    Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Tug of War, 100 meters Race, Relay and Three-legged Race, Yoga,

    Sudoku, Chess and Throw Ball kept the students across classes and courses fully involved.

    Teachers and the non-teaching staff also participated in games organised for them. The

    exciting day ended with refreshments for all. The entire sports day was well organized by

    the convener Dr. Rajinder Singh, who was ably supported by Ms. Looke Kumari, Dr.

    Deepak Sharma, Mr. Abhimanyu Kumar and Sh. Durga Singh Rawat.

  • DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

    Department of Commerce:

    The Department of Commerce, NCWEB Bharati College, organized a lecture for B.Com

    students on Investment in Stock Market on 26th March 2017. The seminar was conducted

    by Mr. Harbinder Singh Sokhi, an eminent resource person from Bombay Stock Exchange

    Investor Education Centre. The seminar was attended by 100 students of B.Com who were

    informed about the history and working of Bombay Stock Exchange, how they can invest

    in stock market and discussed the role of Stock Market for our economy. Mr. Harbinder

    also discussed the various investment alternatives available for financial savings and

    discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each. The students were curious and also

    asked many questions related to how they can start saving for future from their college life

    itself. The lecture proved to be extremely informative for students and teachers alike.

    This talk was ably organised by Ms. Neha Arora.

    This event was conceived at the initiative of Dr. Rekha Sharma, who also conducted it

    efficiently.

  • Department of History:

    History teachers of NCWEB Bharati College centre organised a historical tour for B.A.

    (prog.) History students on 21st Dec 2016. The students were accompanied by Dr.

    Nagender, Dr. Hansraj, Mr. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Preeti Sharma and 65 students of

    B.A.(prog). The trip started at 9:30 am and moved towards Humayuns Tomb and

    Parliament museum. The tour was very educative and memorable. The Students

    discovered that Humayuns Tomb is a mesmerizing combination of conventional

    Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The first ever garden-tomb of the Indian subcontinent

    which inspired the construction of the spectacular Taj Mahal also inspired the students to

    explore more. Around 2:00 pm the delegation reached Parliament museum. The entire

    museum is a feast for the eyes giving a peek into the history of India's political growth

    from Ancient to Modern times. Overall it was a fruitful, enjoyable, knowledgeable tour,

    and an exciting and rewarding journey.

  • Department of Political Science:

    A trip to parliament was organised by political science department of NCWEB Bharti

    College centre on 29-03-2017. The students were shown proceedings of the Lok Sabha, so

    that they could observe the practical aspect of democracy. At that time debate on GST bill

    was taking place in the Lok Sabha, so the students were lucky to see this historical debate.

    Dr. Indu Baghel and Ms. Alka dua oversaw the practical arrangements and accompanied

    the 43 students to the Parliament.

    This visit was made possible by the Hon'ble M.P. Sh. Pravesh Sahab Singh Verma who

    arranged the permission. He also interacted with the students and told them about the

    Parliamentary procedure and GST bill. The joint efforts of NCWEB Bharti College in

    charge Dr. Saloni Gupta and Dr. Aruna Jain made this educational and enjoyable trip

    possible.

  • COMMITTEES:

    Counselling Committee

    The Counselling Committee in Bharati College NCWEB Centre was formed in response to

    the growing need of students seeking support and personal guidance in diverse matters.

    Comprising three teacher members viz. Dr. Shashi Khurana, Dr. Savita Pathak and Mr.

    Santosh Kanti with Dr. Saloni Gupta as ex-officio member, the counselling committee has

    been approached personally and telephonically by students from time to time. In the first

    term two girls approached the counsellor to discuss their confusion over what they felt

    was a wrong choice of subjects. A few came together to seek guidance for professional

    courses to enable them to work after their graduation. The general trend was that those

    seeking advice came individually with prior request. One of the study rooms was allotted

    for face to face counselling specifically during the break but the general notice encouraged

    students to contact telephonically as and when they felt the need. The counsellors have

    been working proactively. Signs of anxiety noticed incidentally would be registered with

    follow up observation and direct interaction if necessary with due sensitivity. On the

    whole, 16 cases were addressed and resolved to the satisfaction of the students. In one of

    the cases the discussion was extended to the mother of one of the girls. The Counselling

    committee has been a source of emotional support and career/academic guidance for the

    girls from time to time.

    Cultural Committee:

    An informative and interesting Nukkad natak on Environment Conservation was

    presented jointly by students of Bharati College NCWEB students with the regular

    Students at Udaan Utsav 2016, the Mega Nukkad Natak Competition organised from

    20th to 22nd September 2016, with the eminent jury comprising Dr. Chandra Prakash

    Dwivedi, acclaimed Filmmaker Sudipta Sen, writer Advaita Kala, Singer Manoj Tiwari

  • and others. Bharati College NCWEB Centre was the only NCWEB Center to send in an

    entry. The skit was also mentioned in news reports published in some newspapers.

    Dr. Savita Jemini and Dr. Anshu Yadav worked tirelessly for more than a month in

    conceiving and executing the nukkad natak. Right from conception of the event to script

    writing, coaching and mentoring the girls and delivering a wonderful final product, all the

    aspects were made possible by their exceptional commitment and long hours of work.

    Our seven-member group dance troupe participated in Hansraj College Inter Centre

    Competition held on 16th Oct. 2016 and won appreciation, having prepared everything on

    an extremely short notice. They were accompanied by Ms. Kalyanee Rajan and Dr. Laxmi

    Devi. They performed a traditional Lavani style dance on the song, Pingaa from the film

    Bajirao Mastani.

  • Our students were selected to perform at the main NCWEB annual day held in Shankar

    Lal Hall, North Campus on 21st February 2017, their energetic group dance performance

    was appreciated by one and all.

  • Library Committee:

    The Library committee of Bharati College NCWEB consists of one member from each

    teaching department. During the session 2016-17, we received rupees 5000 (five thousand

    only) for each year of each stream to purchase books for the library. The committee tried to

    purchase the books for every Department in given budget constraint. In this session, the

    following number of books were purchased for library.

    1. Sanskrit department Thirty books 2. Political science Eighteen books 3. History Department Six books 4. Economics Department Sixteen books (tentative) 5. Hindi Department Twenty-six books 6. Commerce Department Twenty (tentative) Apart from these, many teachers donated their personal and complementary copies to the

    library. The committee is heartily thankful to them. Dr Azad Singh, convener was

    instrumental in painstakingly arranging all the books for the NCWEB library.

    WORKSHOPS AND TALKS

    A number of outreach and awareness generation programmes were conducted by the

    Centre by inviting dedicated Resource persons as part of the activities calendar of the

    Centre. At Bharati College Non-Collegiate Centre the following Workshops were held:

    Interactive Talk on Financial Literacy: (27th Dec 2016) In response to the growing need of

    students to understand the terminology and methods of financial empowerment, Dr.

    Seema Singh, Associate professor in Delhi Technological Institute, conducted an

    interactive talk with 75 students, explain the modalities of banking and salary structure for

    new entrants into the job market. The cautioned the students on the need to be aware

    especially of the deductions which are supposedly part of the payroll towards an

    accumulated fund to benefit the employee, but in most cases never reaches the beneficiary.

    Since the talk was held during at the time of Demonetisation, the discussion veered

    towards the hardships of accessing ones money and inevitably the economic aspects of

    the sudden change introduced. This talk was organised in collaboration with UWAD.

    University Womens Association of Delhi is a registered (Registration No. : S419 of 1949-50

    (30-03-1950) non-governmental organization (NGO) working in Delhi, India. Established

    in the year 1950, University Womens Association of Delhi works in the area of Advocacy

    and Research, Children, Civic Issues, Education & Literacy, Human Rights, Legal

    Awareness & Aid, Right to Information & Advocacy, Rural Development & Poverty

    Alleviation, Womens Development & Empowerment, Youth Affairs, etc. The organization

    works towards the promotion of sustainable development.

  • Block Printing Workshop: (21st Dec. 2016) As part of the series of skill development

    programmes, a Workshop on Block Printing was conducted for a small group of fourteen

    girls who had been pre-registered for the same. Though the list of interested students went

    up to thirty, only fourteen of the first come first served students were enrolled to meet the

    objectives of the workshop. The Resource person Ms. Ritu Jain of Suunya Arts Studio

    imparted important information and training which enabled students to understand and

    acquire the skill. At the end of the three-hour workshop students had created their own

    first ever pieces of block print designs. This workshop was organised by Dr Shashi

    Khurana, in collaboration with UWAD.

    Personality Development Workshop (17-19 March, 2017): A free-of-cost three-day

    Personality Development workshop for the final year students of the centre was organized

    by Chetana: Conscience of Women, from 17th to 19th March 2017, with various professional

  • resource persons from the corporate sector, including senior psychologist and

    communications trainer Dr. Indu Arneja, and Mr. Prakash Shetty, CEO, DirectoVoyage.

    The intensive workshop was very useful for the teachers and students alike as it dwelt on

    essential matters such as communication, preparing for interviews, CV/Resume

    preparation and in general, aiming high in life. This workshop was organised at the

    initiative of Dr Anju Gupta, Director NCWEB, Delhi University.

  • The Bharati College NCWEB Centre teachers also registered their presence in the NCWEB

    get-together at Pratapgarh Resorts and Farms organised on 14th November 2016. The

    teachers who went were Mr. Rajesh Kumar (with family), Ms. Kalyanee Rajan, Ms. Suman,

    Dr. Laxmi Devi and Dr. Deepak Sharma. The get-together involved may fun-filled

    activities at the resort, apart from interacting with the 300 member contingent of NCWEB

    teachers across centres. There was also an impromptu tambola event with attractive prizes

    and a long dance session where everyone got to shake a leg with the Director, Dr. Anju

    Gupta. The day-long trip also included an informal discussion about the various initiatives

    being carried out by the NCWEB and suggestions for its improvement.

    Three students from the Bharati NCWEB Centre made it to the toppers from overall

    NCWEB and were also felicitated at the main NCWEB annual day held in Shankar Lal

    Hall, North Campus on 21st February 2017: first prize Kavita Sharma for B.Com 3rd year,

    fourth prize Priya for B.Com 3rd year, fifth prize Shama Hasan for B.Com 3rd year and first

    prize Anuradha for B.Com 1st year.

    Apart from taking active part in the various administrative and cultural activities of the

    centre, our teachers from various departments have been actively pursuing research and

    winning accolades. Some of their achievements are listed as under:

    1. Presented a Research Paper Titled Impact of Make in India Campaign for future

    economic Scenario in India in 5th Annual International Commerce Conference

    held on Nov 4-5, 2016.

    2. Presented a Research Paper Titled Macro-Economic Antecedents of Stock Return

    and Exchange Rate" in two day national seminar on International Financial

    System: Challenges and Implications for India, organised by Shaheed Bhagat

    Singh Evening College held on March 01-02, 2017 and also got the BEST PAPER

    AWARD for the same.

    Commonwealth Language and Literature Studies (IACLALS) Annual Conference

    on "Location, Identity, Solidarity: Hegemonic Formations and Contestations (With a

    Special Focus on the North-East)", held from 15th to 17th February 2017, at Indian

    4. Presented a paper: Transforming the Classroom with new Pedagogical Tools:

    Steering towards Gender Sensitization and Lifelong Learning at a two-Day

    National Youth Conference Delhi University Sustainability Forum 2016, held

    on 28th and 29th September 2016 at India International Centre, New Delhi, organized

    by Harithram- The Environment Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College,

    University of Delhi. Also won a trophy and cash prize for the second best paper

    presentation.

    5. Program Convenor: Organized and compered a Literary Forum program on Nari

    Chetna Empowerment through writing organized by Sahitya Akademi, the

    Indian National Academy of Letters, in collaboration with the Non Collegiate

    Womens Education Board (NCWEB), University of Delhi on 29th July 2016, held at

    the conference room of the International Guest House, University of Delhi.

    6. Presented as a panellist and poet at the Literary forum on Literature For Social

    Change organized by the Sahitya Akademi, Indian National Academy of Letters,

    held at the Sahitya Akademi Conference Hall, Rabindra Bhavan, 35 Ferozeshah

    Road, New Delhi 110001 on 7th June 2016.

    Kapurs A Married Woman and Abha Dawesars Babyji, on 1st March 2017.

    2. Working as a Teaching Assistant for a MOOC, ILLL-NPTEL on The Renaissance

    1. 3rd September 2016- Samarth Shiksha Samiti organised a program in which a talk on

    Jeevan Mein Sangeet Ki Bhumika was delivered by her.

    2. 5th September 2016- An honour of Rashtriya Shikshak Samman was conferred to

    her by Vidyarthi Vikas Manch Samiti, Ujjain on the occasion of Teachers day.

    Sabhyata Ka Sankat Aur Prasad Sahitya on the occasion of 128th birth anniversary

    of famous Hindi Writer Jaishankar Prasad in collaboration of Kirori Mal College's

    Hindi department and Jayshankar Prasad Niyas, Delhi. The event was covered by

    eminent papers like Dainik Jagran and Jansatta.

    The Bharati College NCWEB Centre would like to place on record its gratitude towards

    Ms. Neha Arora and Dr. Preeti Sharma for rendering commendable assistance in the

    admission process.

    The centre as well as the students have benefitted immensely by the guidance and

    mentoring provided by senior teachers Mr. William E. John and Dr. Shashi Khurana.

    The centre also recognizes the technical and logistics support provided by Mr. Anurag

    Maurya in various tasks from time to time.

    Much appreciation is also due to Ms. Kalyanee Rajan for editing and compiling this annual

    report and working tirelessly throughout the year for the college magazine.

    Dr. Madhu Verma has offered voluntary guidance and coordination of musical

    programmes on various occasions.

  • No praise would be enough for Dr. Savita Jemini for perpetually being at the disposal of

    the centre and voluntarily shouldering all kinds of responsibilities in teaching as well as

    non-teaching events of the centre. The centre is also thankful to Ms. Krishna Singhal, Ms.

    Annu Aggarwal, Mr. Ritesh Kumar, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Savita Pathak, Ms. Kashish

    Dua, Dr. Laxmi Devi, Dr. Chitra Sachdev, Mr. Santosh Prasad and Dr. Kamini Taneja for

    their willing cooperation in performing the assigned responsibilities from time to time.

    Mr. Jitender deserves a pat on the back for being the steam engine on whose strength lots

    of day-to-day tasks of the centre are carried out with punctuality and efficiency. The

    efforts of Ms. Mamta are also appreciated in this regard.

    Thanks must be given to the entire teaching staff of the Bharati College NCWEB Centre for

    contributing in different ways, thanks are due to the entire non-teaching staff including

    the cleaning and security staff for their cooperation and support throughout the year, and

    finally, a big round of applause and thanks to our students, for whose benefit and welfare,

    the college comes together to work throughout the year.
