1.4 Whether there is any revision/update of regulation or syllabi, if yes, mention their salient aspects.

The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Therefore, the syllabus is designed by the Board of Studies of the respective courses. During 2017-18, the BoS did not exist since the previous bodies were dissolved and revision of University Act was in progress. However, some Ad Hoc Boards had revised the syllabus earlier and they were implemented during the academic year 2017-18. The syllabi for S.Y.B.Sc. of Chemistry, Physics and Zoology were revised. In addition the third year syllabi of Zoology, Commerce, Physics and Geography were also revised. In Post-graduation, Chemistry Part I was revised.

All the Boards have tried to make their syllabi relevant to the current needs. They have the following features.

1. Practical and demonstrations are emphasized more than before. 2. The employability factor is considered important while designing the syllabus. 3. More than one option, choice is made available to the students

The College adopts ICT enabled teaching, learning and evaluation process and has created a new learning ambiance and opportunity to students.

The teachers use innovative methods such as Case Studies, Video Presentation, Brain Teasers, Rapid Fire Questions & Role Play, Animated Video and films, Online Tests etc.

The institution found it very important to take extra efforts for the improvement of the results. Since most of our students come from schools and colleges with regional languages as a medium of instruction, they find it difficult to cope with the syllabus. Also the students come from various strata of the society. Therefore, the instituion segragated the students on the basis of their results into two catagories. –Advanced and Slow learners. Some departments like English, Economics, Mathematics, IT and Geography conducted Bridge courses designed by the departments for the slow learners.

The failures in the Semester I exam were tracked by the respective departments and given extra coaching before their ATKT exam, under the scheme ‘Follow the Failures’.

6.11 Activities and support from the Alumni Association

6.12 Activities and support from the Parent – Teacher Association.

6.13 Development programmes for support staff.

6.14 Initiatives taken by the institution to make the campus eco-friendly.

The Alumni Association is omnipresent in our institution since most of the Management council members of our parent institution are our past students. In addition, 60% of the teaching and non-teaching staff is also the past students. Therefore, most of the activities conducted by the institution are supported by the Alumni. They also help in all the outreach and co-curricular activities.

The Association contributes in cash and kind, throughout the year by way of- Assistance in employment of the students Financial help to the poor and needy Assistance in co-ordinating major activities in the college Actual guidance as Sports Coach, Environmental Experts, Cultural activities

etc.

The institution believes that the parents play a pivotal role in the development of their children. They are the decision makers in most of the cases. Therefore, we find it important to counsel parents even before their wards. Our academic year commences with Admission Committee meetings where it is compulsory for the parents to attend. Rather, it is a pre-condition for the admissions. The schedule of the meetings is displayed beforehand. In the meeting of the parents of the first year students, the parents interact with the Principal and the staff. Later they give valuable suggestions. The parents of the Second and Third year students are more involved. They give valuable suggestions and also bring the flaws in the systems.

Every year the college assigns a particular day for an entertainment programme for the staff. It serves as a platform to display their talent. Continuing the practice, there was a programme this year as well. In addition, the support staff were given prizes and awards for their sincere hard work.

The institution strives hard to keep the campus eco-friendly through the following:

Swachhata Abhiyan , a cleanliness campaign was conducted to propagates the importance of cleanliness

The campus is plastic-free The college takes efforts to maintain the natural greenery in the campus

through the Agriculture department and a private contractor The college conducts Green Audit every 5 years

Criterion – VII

7. Innovations and Best Practices

7.1 Details on innovations introduced during this academic year which have created a positive impact on the functioning of the institution.

7.2 Provide the Action Taken Report (ATR) based on the plan of action decided upon at the beginning of the year

7.3 Two Best Practices of the institution in the respective format:

Best practice: 1

Title: Student support for career building, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Goal: Strictly adhering to the vision and mission, and considering the obvious expertise of the students, the institution encourages them to participate in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, by way of funding and provision of technical assistance.

The context: The new global job market requires new skills to make one relevant. It has been observed that the students in our region have skill- oriented bent of mind and tremendous physical ability. The institution has been taking extra efforts to develop their skills. Basically, they require assistance on financial and technical level. Once this was provided, the institution got miraculous results.

Objectives:

To find the potential of the students. To provide training for their chosen skill e.g. Sports, Cultural etc. To make them confident and employable. To provide opportunities to work and take experience in the outside world. To supplement the classroom teaching with co-curricular activities.

The 42 data acquisition files to maintain records were monitored by the IQAC. There were workshops for teachers and students on Research Methodology. The students’ research magazine was released.

The number of programmes dedicated to the the overall development of the girl students was increased.

The IQAC took regular follow-up from the departments. A Language Studies Centre became more efficient and effective through. Under the faculty development programme workshop on research

methodology was conducted for new teachers. A new laboratory building was constructed to cater to the needs of the

students from Science faculty.

The Practice –

This practice involves support to the students in every way to participate in all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and helping them to seek employment through them. There are more than 30 such activities. Prominent among them are Sports, Cultural, NSS, NCC, on-the-job trainings etc. The students are picked up in their first year itself. Then they are given training by experts; and finally, they get the opportunity to participate in the inter-collegiate competitions and other competitions. Their success in them is our evidence of success of the scheme. Our support system has the following features.

There are almost forty committees providing support to the activities. Dietary supplements to the students who practice regularly. Extra DA and duty leaves for practice days. The sports and cultural students are provided with uniforms, T-shirts, tack suits, shoes

etc. The shoes of our award- winning plays and skits in college and in local theatre. Additional exams for those who miss them due to competitions. Extra coaching for those who miss their lectures due to these activities. Adequate infrastructure for practice.

Evidence of success -

Cultural:

In the year 2017-18, the students participated in 19 various cultural activity at zonal, university and stat level. In all 93 students instances participated. In this year we got 01 Silver Medal and 03 Bronze Medal in deferent events at the University level. Besides this we got 01 Gold Medal and 04 Bronze Medals at the Zonal Competition at Gogate Jogalekar College, Ratnagiri.

Sports:

In the year 2017-18, the student participated in 12 various events at zonal level and 12 events at the University level in all 154 students instances participated. In this year we got 05 gold medals, 03 silver medals and 04 Bronze medals.

Problems encountered: We have not faced any major problems so far. Funding is the only serious problem except

for hiring professional for coaching and their availability. Notes:

The growing number of girl students in our institution makes us think of modifying the scheme, with overall development of the girls.

Counselling should be emphasised for the girl students since they have shown inclination and acumen in some activities.

The participation of students in various activities has increased over the last 5 years.

Best Practice -2 Title of the practice: Library Goal: To develop the library (though a conventional method of learning), to make it

more accessible, user-friendly and efficient.

The context: The goal of the institution is to provide the learners with every possible opportunity and avenue of learning. Over the past 50 years, the institution has always managed to remain updated in its methods and systems. Our library, also known as the ‘Knowledge Resource Centre’, has always been a place of pride for us because of the massive collection of books and other resource materials. However, the changing requirements of the learners, advent of social and electronic media, general apathy of the learners to books(due to other distractions like television, cell phones and video games) etc. have prompted us to modify our library systems and our attitude towards libraries, in general.

The practice:

Objectives: To make optimum utilization of existing resources To increase number of readers To cultivate reading habit among students and staff To promote library as a learning resource with various services To promote use of ICT in storage, search and information and dissemination of

information and knowledge

Evidence of success:

The total number of text books and reference books has increased remarkably Book Bank has been launched for both semesters and it has become popular among

students Automation has helped students to use OPAC The user-friendly classification has made access easier The number of readers has increased due to the Best Reader Award

Problems Encountered and Resources Required: There were definitely some problems encountered during the process. There were some low moments when the systems did not get the desired response from students. But soon the situation improved. The institution was as usual very cooperative and took care of the problems.

Rats, termites etc. posed a threat to the books. Library visitors reduced due to the invasion of electronic and social media. The students still rely heavily on soft material.

7.4 Contribution to environmental awareness / protection.

7.5 Whether environmental audit was conducted? Yes No

7.6 Any other relevant information the institution wishes to add.

The NCC and NSS students participated in the activities promoting environmental awareness / protection along with the local NGOs like Global Chiplun Tourism, Parivartan etc.

There is a separate committee to supervise the upkeep of the campus. The college conducted tree plantation programme. The campus is always kept clean and plastic-free.

---

More efforts should be taken to improve results. The sports and cultural students are an asset to the institution and need more

facilities. The girl students are proving their talent in academics, but they should be

provided something extra to make them employable. May be a separate activity/campaign should be launched for their benefit.

The professional courses are getting better response, so their number should be increased.

The industry around Chiplun can be utilised more effectively through more linkages and collaborations.

Annexure - I Analysis of the feedback

The feedback system implemented in our institution is robust, and effective. Specific stakeholders are contacted through staff and the virtual media to receive feedback from them. The parents are contacted through the Admission Committee meetings. The students give their feedback on the selected course and the department, at the end of the course. The Alumni of our college is omnipresent about 80% of our Management Council and about 50% of our staff comprises of our Alumni. They are an active participant, supporter and witness to our every step towards progress.

From the Parents, Alumni and Peers……………

The library and IT facilities are appreciated by the stakeholders outside the campus. The overall discipline, infrastructure and Codes of Conduct in the institution have

been appreciated by the Parents, Alumni and the Peers. The installment system for fees is proved beneficial to the parents. The parents, alumni and the peers have expressed satisfaction on the availability of

infrastructure, library facilities and availability of various courses in the institutions. The Alumni has promised assistance in getting employment for the students, and

providing expertise in sports and cultural activities.

From the Students…………..

Teachers Evaluation Committee takes the feedback from the students regarding their course and performance of the teachers. The collected data is analyzed and informed to the teachers. This helps the teachers to know their strong and weak areas. The head of departments guide their respective teachers to overcome the weakness. The sample copy of the evaluation report is attached.

Action Taken Report

The instalment scheme was continued in the subsequent year, even though it meant a financial loss and procedural delay for the institution.

The Code of Conduct ( e.g. Ban on cell phones in campus and a strict dress code for the students) and disciplinary measures were continued, in spite of a little displeasure on the part of the students.
