What a glorious year it has been for all-thing-sporting at Neatherd! Aside from our regular reports on the school web-site (just follow the ‘Sports Results’ Quick Link at neatherd.org) there were literally so many great achievements that we’ve put together this round-up. We hope you enjoy reminiscing…. We’ll also be saying a very fond farewell to Mr O Connor. Thank you and best of luck in your forthcoming adventures!

U16 Squad: Curtis Aldus, Kieran Attride, Ryan Batson-Long, Lewis Jarrett, Zach Mowbray, Brandon Duhaney, Harry Barnes, Joe Thompson, Brynn Hughes, Harry Jennings, Sonny Richmond. Final league placings: U14 came 3rd out of 8, U16 2nd out of 8! Most memorable result: U16 beating Reepham 103 – 10. Player of the Season: U14 Will Taber; U16 Joe Thompson. Most Improved Player: U14 Richard Joisce; U16 Brandon Duhaney. Coach O’Connor says, “We’ve had a hugely successfully season with each team dramatically improving. Every week we had a great turn out to training, which made picking the teams hard but also a pleasure, as I had so many great players to choose from. In every game, the boys played extremely well and behaved exceptionally. Keep working hard everyone, I want 1st place next year!”

U16 Girls’ Squad: Chloe Watton, Gintare Kuckinstaite, Olivia Boyce, Katie McArdle, Yazzy Singh, Georgia Butters, Erren Ampleford, Emma Jones, Tia Grauwiler, Holly Fenn, Megan Mann, Lily Salibury, Abi Davies. Our Y8 Students had the opportunity to play in tournaments to qualify for the Norfolk School Games, representing the West Norwich and Dereham Schools Sports Partnership. Although they put on a great show of team work and individual skills, they unfortunately didn’t manage to qualify, coming third overall. They played some great basketball against Taverham, Reepham and Hellesdon teams, but narrowly missed out. Y8 Boys’ Squad: Liam Chipperfield, Joao Baptista, Reece Weedon, Ewan Lait, James Melladay, Jamie Allsop, Joshua Richardson, James Kimber, Reece Johnson, Jordan Bowie, Jack White, Ashley Golden, Craig Fenn. Our Y8 girls did get the chance to represent our area at the Norfolk School games, held at the UEA. Our keen year 8 girls had only previously played one game of basketball, so it was always going to be a challenge! Our girls played extremely well and only lost the first game by one basket! Our second game was against a team which was full of county players and who were beating the other teams by about 40 points. We defended excellently, and worked extremely hard which meant they were only able to score 20 points, which was an excellent achievement by the girls! Our final game was for 5th or 6th place. We were getting better throughout the da, so we were hopeful for a good win, and the girls didn’t disappoint with great baskets from Jasmine Vincent, Amelia Hodges and Emily Jessop! Y8 Girls’ Squad: Emily Jessop, Alicia Fairweather, Michaela Rondell, Amelia Hodges, Jasmine Vincent, Abi Foster, Lauryn Neil, Gintare Kuckinskaite, Jasmine Munt, Rachel Harvey.

Results: West Norwich & Dereham Vs West Norfolk (14-16) West Norwich & Dereham Vs Norwich East (4-20) West Norwich & Dereham Vs North Norfolk (18-10)

Also for basketball: A couple of times this year we have taken some of our keen students who have not had the opportunity to play for the school team to a basketball tournament held at the UEA.

Y8 Squad: Amelia Dorrington, Jess Irving , Chloe Newson, Lucy Thompson, Cerys Blake, Kiara De Abreu Batista, Moira McGuire, Daniel Allison, Cameron Vincent, Jack Parsons, Alex Skinner, Alexander Sandcraft, Sky Battleday, Ciara Harman-Wooley,

Our Y10 GCSE students Joe Thompson, Tom Burton, Bryn Hughes, Jordan Edgar and Jasper Bushby Edwards umpired the games. …and finally, a huge shout out for Joe Thompson who gained a place in the East of England U15 squad basketball and was shortlisted to a squad of 20! If successful he will qualify for U15 England squad.

Bramley Lakes Achievement is something that as a school we are blessed with on a day to day basis. For some students on any given normal day this may be something as simple as solving a maths equation or throwing a javelin further than they ever have before, but it takes something really special in order for someone to conquer a fear or to take a leap of faith.

Once again this year we are blessed to say that we were lucky enough to see some of the most modest children take on challenges that would test even the pluckiest amongst us at Bramley Lakes. The vast majority of students within Y8 took part in all of the challenges set and achieved them with great control and humility, which is often difficult when you’re looking down at a 30 foot drop or into the murky waters below a peer-built raft!

Looking back, lots of students who leave the school reflect upon the fun and achievements gained during their time at Bramley Lakes and often highlight it as a real turning point in their early but vastly developing school lives. Let’s hope that for some of these students, and even the ones that conquered team building and mind challenging in school tasks, that this will enable these boys and girls to develop into well-rounded and highly respectable members of the Neatherd High School community.

Cross County On Monday 13thJanuary Neatherd High School hosted the Mid Norfolk Cross Country Championships. We were luckily blessed with fantastic weather and our students did us proud, particularly our Sports Leaders who were superb in organising and marshalling the cross country course. Our runners ran really well, and we won 2 out of the 6 year group events. Notable individuals were Jack White who not only equalled a school record on the 2 mile course, but was also so far ahead of the second placed runner he had crossed the whole field, and crossed the line before 2nd was even on the driftway! Ellie Foster in Y7 also won her race outright. 15 students qualified for county trials, the next stage, held at Sloughbottom Park on 22nd January. Unfortunately the weather for this stage of the cross country was not so pleasant. Having spent the afternoon from 12pm until 3.30 pm out in the cold and wet, with our 12 Cross Country runners, it was great to report that four successfully qualified: Y7s Elli Foster and Charlie Dickerson and Y8s Abi Foster and Jack White. All ran superbly and came in the top 12 which meant they would be running in a competition in Northampton representing Norfolk.

Y8 Abi Foster reports below on her version of events! My sister and I were selected to compete for Neatherd in this year's Inter-schools Cross Country competition. When I was in year 7, I won the initial race, but this year, I was running with my own year 8 runners and those from year 9. I came second to a year 9 from Northgate. My sister Ellie ran in the year 7 and won it. The top eight from each race qualified to run in the Norfolk schools race at Sloughbottom Park. To qualify for the East Anglia competition, you needed to complete the race in the first 12 places. I came 8th in this race and my sister came 11th so we were both successful in being selected for the Norfolk County team to race in Northampton on 1st February. It was a freezing cold day as we all lined up to get on team buses to travel to Northampton. The boys had a luxury coach whilst we were in a standard bus (what was that all about?). Ellie and I sat next to each other so we could discuss our race strategies whilst eating haribo – or was it the other way round! We were issued our county vests, and we put them on at a service station. The two hour journey was pretty uneventful, and we arrived in good time to walk the route. It was horrendous: really boggy, wet, muddy and cold. My race was 2 laps, with a couple of hills thrown in. My sister ran first – it was great to see her run really well, coming in 33rd place and she was 4th for Norfolk. I had an hour or so to hang on and worry about the race. Eventually we were called to the start line – I got myself a good position, but then was pushed back, and so my start wasn't great. It was a tough race, and I ran as fast as I could, and came in 48th place overall and 6th place for Norfolk. The top 8 Norfolk runners qualify for the Nationals, although they do take previous performances into consideration, so I am awaiting confirmation to see if I have been selected - fingers crossed!! Unfortunately the year 7s do not have a next level race, so Ellie will have to wait until next year to see if she can qualify. Since Abi wrote this she and Jack White have taken part in the Nationals held in Leicestershire. Let’s see what Jack had to say about it. “On Saturday 15th March Abi and I competed in the ESAA Cross County National, held at Donnington Park, Leicestershire. The day was unseasonably warm and dry, with firm conditions underfoot, a rarity for cross country! It turned out to be a fantastic experience for us both, with amazing performances delivered at the highest level of competition. Having driven down with the Norfolk team the night before, we arrived at Donnington Park at 10.30am. We walked the course which included various challenging hills. After a quick pre-race snack and warm-up I was the first to race in the Junior Boys’ category. Competing against boys a year older than me, I powered round the 4.3km course and finished an outstanding 125th position! Out of 333 racing! The first competitor for Norfolk to cross the line! I was delighted with the result, and it was clear to see the hard training paying off! Overall, it was a very memorable day for us both. We are eligible to run in the same race next year as the oldest in the age group.’’

Dodgeball In November, some of our Y11 boys took part in a Dodgeball Tournament held at Hellesdon High School. Our students played against Y10s and 11s from Hellesdon and Northgate High. It was a great opportunity and the boys really enjoyed it. They played really well, coming 2nd and 3rd out of 8 teams. Participants: Brandon Duhaney, Alfie Archard, Ryan Batson-Long, Sonny Richmond, Curtis Aldus, Rob Ellis, Carl Smith, Micka Singh, Harry Barnes, Tom Younie, Tom Mansfield, Owen Bradfield, Declan Moore, Alex Clements.

In December we went over to Northgate, taking four teams of Y10s and 11s. Playing a Round Robin Tournament, each team had 7 games. Once again, we missed out on first place with our strongest Y11 team coming 2nd. We returned the favour in January, when Northgate visited us, with similar results. We intend to enter the Dodgeball Leagues next year, as we continue to grow in confidence in what has become a very popular sport.

Football

It has been a very successful year for the whole of our school football this year, with two of our 5 teams bringing home trophies from the South Norfolk cups and also all of our teams finishing in very strong positions in the leagues. The highest achieving year groups this year were the years 7 and 10 football teams. Year 7 managed to win the South Norfolk cup with a 1-0 win against Old Buckingham and also came runners up in the league with a narrow defeat in the last game of the season, which proved to be the only one.

Page 7: Neatherd Sports Edition 01 July 2014

7 | P a g e

Our other major success, and the most improved team over the season, was the Year 10 football team, who also brilliantly won their South Norfolk cup with a win on penalties against Iceni Academy. The boys, who also finished runners-up in their league, managed to prove what a great camaraderie they have, impressively putting together a series of 1-0 and 2-0 wins all season long, leading to many teachers commenting on what a great unit they became when they worked hard for each other. The year 8, 9 and 11 teams all came in respectable mid table positions in their leagues and will be looking to push on next year to continue the thriving successes we are developing here at Neatherd.

Football (Girls’) We arranged two friendly matches for our year 7, 8 and 9 girls away at Northgate. We had a year 7 match (7v7 on the astro) which the girls did really well in. We lost 3-2 with literally the last kick of the game. There were great games for Alice Hart and Grace Dean and goals for Izzy McEwen-Hull and Chloe Thorne. Our older girls lost their one; however, the girls were very determined and never gave up - Massive shout outs to Lauryn Neil, Megan Lait and Reya Muller (who scored 2!) Year 7: Amy Malin, Ruby Ottaway, Louise Godin, Izzy McEwen-Hull, Chloe Thorne, Sasha Boldero, Alice Hart, Grace Dean. Y8/9: Lucy Coubrough, Kiara Batista, Chelsea Barnett, Ciara Harmen-Woolley, Skye Battleday, Jess Arouja, Vicki Bolton, Amber Alderton-Macleod, Megan Lait, Reya Muller, Lucie Gresham-Hill, Georgia Reeve, Alicia Fairweather, Lauryn Neil.

Hockey Neatherd’s Hockey teams have been battling away again this year, playing some great hockey against some tough opposition. We had drawn Wymondham College, Northgate and Wayland in our League, and both squads have demonstrated some real team performances, with a mixed bag of results. We have lost to Wymondham College and Wayland, although the scores did not reflect the positive gameplay and promising team work. We beat Northgate, again working well together on the pitch. The U14 squad members have been real ‘keenie beanies’, participating in astro training sessions once a week and being totally committed to the matches. The progress they have made in this term has been great. The U16 girls have shown similar commitment; brilliant!

Page 8: Neatherd Sports Edition 01 July 2014

The U14 squad consists of the following students: Jazmine Vincent, Jasmine Munt, Lauryn Neil, Alicia Fairweather, Lucie Gresham-Hill, Abi Foster, Courtney Manly, Ellie Dowdall, Rosie Ballman, Georgia Reeve, Caoihme Cullen, Dot Eley-Williams, Naomi Parker, Amber Alderton-Macleod, Vicky Bolton, Frankie Vecchio, Freya Budgett, Mallory Bush, Chloe Norton, Megan Lait. The U16 squad consists of the following students: Livvy Boyce, Erren Ampleford, Emma Jones, Katie Robinson, Jess Bales, Charlotte Canham , Chloe Stanfield, Megan Lines, Lilly Salisbury, Natalie Smee, Serena Aris, Leah Walthew, Sian Fenn-Green. The following Y7 students show lots of promise and played their first match for the school against Northgate: Ellie Foster, Mea Green, Alice Bridges, Gabby Lynch, Alice Hart, Vicky Joisce, Elizabeth Vogel, Amy Malin, Izzy Mckwen-Hull and Lucy Hart. A very exciting game ended with a 3-2 win for us in the last minute! Their enthusiasm for the sport cannot be underestimated. Nearly 40 girls attended weekly training sessions over at Dereham Hockey Clubs Astroturf. Girls from all years are continuing to show commitment, in improving their skill levels, becoming more tactically aware in gameplay and most importantly, having fun! Our teams continue to flourish. To finish a fun-filled season off, Neatherd U14s beat Fakenham 2-0 in their final full game of the year. We also played in a 7 a side tournament at Fakenham and came away victorious! A well- deserved finish to a very promising season.

Netball There was some terrific play over the netball season earlier in the year. Girls of all years played to the best of their ability and gained some terrific results. We will now build on the skills learnt ready for autumn!

Norfolk School Games (NSG) Neatherd has been heavily involved in both the Winter and Summer NSG again this year. Nearly 100 students from Neatherd represented the West Norwich and Dereham School Sports Partnership (WNDSSP) over the course of the week long games. Four of the school’s skiers participated in the Finals of the Dry-ski slope skiing competition in March at the Snowsports Club, Trowse. Y10s Becky Swales, Katie McArdle, and Georgia Ingham and Y9 Megan Lait flew the flag for Neatherd. Four of Neatherd’s swimmers were making waves in the Sportspark pool. Y9 Thomas Howarth: 50m Backstroke Y8 Billy Payze: 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle. Y7 James Partridge: 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke. Y7 Elllie Foster: 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle, were all our water babies!

Eight Neatherd students were involved in the County Partnership Indoor Rowing Finals. Y10s Tommy Hoven and Emma Jones, Y9s Richard Joisce and Georgia Reeve, Y8s Charlie Smith and Abi Foster, and Y7s Dario Stott and Ellie Foster all rowed their socks off! It was great to see their enthusiasm and the encouragement they gave each other. It was loud, but it was fabulous! They all seemed to leave with longer arms! In February, twelve students played in the WNDSSP Table Tennis Tournament at Taverham High School. Y7s Charlie Dickerson, Sam Tyler, Luke Keeley, Jamie Harding, Joe Culyer, Y8s Ewan Lait, Reece Johnson, Reece Weedon and James Melladay, and Y9s Johnny Warner, Owen Mustard, and Ciaran Coupland all took part. We left without qualifying, but we could hold our heads up high saying we tried! In March, thirty of our students took part in the Playground to Podium Event at the UEA. The students got the opportunity to have a go at table tennis, goalball, tennis, cricket and sitting volleyball. To top their day they played sitting volleyball with paralympian GB Men’s Sitting Volleyball Captain Rob Richardson. July saw many of the same students attend the second of these two annual events. This time the students sampled Boccia, and wheelchair basketball as well as goalball and sitting volleyball. Paralympian Danny Nobbs was our inspiration this time. Neatherd had 16 competitors go through to the County athletics finals in July. Qualifiers included: Y7 Charlie Dickerson, 1500m; Aaron Duffield, Javelin Y8 Liam Chipperfield 100m, 200m, and High Jump; James Melladay, 200m; Charlie Smith, shot putt; Jordan Bowie discus; Abigail Foster, 800m; Jack White, 1500m and Jasmine Vincent, Discus Y9 Lisa McArdle, High Jump; Megan Lait, Discus Y10 Joe Thompson, High Jump; Toby Burton, shot putt; Emma Jones, 1500m; Katie McArdle, Triple Jump; Tatiana Grauwiler, Javelin, Discus and Shot putt.

… and the results….. Oh my word! What a BRILLIANT day we have had! Obviously it helped that the sun was shining, but as always our athletes were an absolute credit to us and themselves. Bear in mind that these were our top athletes selected from a qualifying competition that included Reepham, Northgate, Hellesdon and Taverham. They were, therefore, up against the elite from seven other Partnerships across the County (which would have all had their qualifying competitions too) representing the West Norwich and Dereham Partnership. Y7: Charlie Dickerson: 1500m – 4th, Aaron Duffield: Javelin 5th Y8: Liam Chipperfield: 100m, 3rd in final (decided by photo finish between him and second place) 2nd in heat. 200m, 2nd in finals. 2nd in heat. High Jump, 1st. James Melladay: 200m, 2nd in final, 5th in heat. Charlie Smith: Shotputt 7th, Jordan Bowie: Discus 4th, Jack White: 800m 1st . Abi Foster: 800m 4th, Jasmine Vincent: Discus 3rd Y9: Megan Lait: Discus 4th, Lisa McArdle: High Jump 4th Y10: Joe Thompson: High Jump 1st. Tia Grauwiler: Discus 1st, Shot 1st. Emma Jones: 800m 2nd, 1500m 3rd (yes she did do both, in that crazy heat). Javelin 6th (she can be forgiven)! Needless to say there were some happy people around! The West Norwich and Dereham Partnership came 2nd overall (we lost out to South Norfolk who won last year, and we finished third last year, so onwards and upwards)! Additionally, the following pupils qualified for the Norfolk Schools Athletics held at UEA in June. Joe Thompson: High Jump – 2nd Emma Jones: 800m - 4th Liam Chipperfield: High Jump – 1st; 100m – 5th Jack White: 1500m - 1st Abi Foster: 800m - 5th

Jasmine Vincent: Discus – 3rd Anyone coming in 1st or 2nd place then went onto the Anglian Championships, representing Norfolk: Liam Chipperfield: High Jump -3rd Jack White: 1500m – 5th Joe Thompson: High Jump – 1st

Rounders Another successful Rounders season has seen some really strong individual performances and some outstanding team play. The Y7s have been great, showing lots of potential for the future. Leanie Elwakil, Lucy Hart, Alice Hart, Carrie-Ann Mileham, Gabby Lynch, Mea Green, Alice Styles, Chloe Webb, Amy Malin, Ellie Foster, and Maddy Turner make up the squad. Y8’s enthusiasm is immense. Squad members include: Amelia Hodges, Amelia Dorrington, Jasmine Vincent, Emily Jessop, Michaela Rondell, Moira McGuire, Ella Warren, Harlie Scott, Lucy Gresham-Hill, Jasmine Munt, Rachel Harvey, Abi Foster, Chloe Newson, Lucy Thompson, and Freya Budgett. These girls all work so well together and have really gelled as a squad. Their sound team work has certainly paid off as they met Wymondham College in the semi-finals. Unfortunately they lost this game 14-9. However, this is an excellent achievement and the girls should be very proud of themselves. In Y9 Emily Whitaker has been fantastic in all areas. Georgia Reeves has been outstanding! Megan Lait continues to hit them for six (whoops wrong game). They have been working really well as a team on the day. Other squad members include: Ellie Dowdall, Freya Arnold, Shikera Read, Payten Hopcroft, Jordan Fennah, Shannon Differ, Lauren Bradfield. Y10s, quite frankly, are AWESOME! They command the pitch each time they play. Excellent team work, skilful individual performances, and a brilliant attitude have led to them winning all their games. Emma Jones, Tilly Slater, Vicky Spall, Tia Grauwiler, Leah Walthew, Alice Watts, Chloe Watton, Georgia Butters, Lilly Salisbury, Charlotte Canham, Livvy Boyce, Sophia Bell and Erren Ampleford have done themselves proud this season, again! They also met Wymondham College in the semi-finals. What a nail-biter it was, finishing 18-16 to Wymondham. Again, we couldn’t have asked any more from the girls! Our Y10s, however, got the result they deserved in a recent tournament hosted by Reepham High School. The girls came away Winners after playing Reepham, North Walsham, Aylsham and Alderman Peel High schools. It was a fitting end to a determined season.

Rugby A selection of match write-ups from the season! Of course, the biggest news was the Y9 team winning the County Plate Cup!

13th March 2014> Y10 versus Northgate

The Northgate boys are all huge and good players. We lost but the effort and commitment was fantastic – tells you lots about boys who know they are likely to lose yet still play.

12th March 2014> Y7 versus Aylsham

First 15 a-side game last night– we only lost by 2 tries but it was a steep learning curve and some didn’t make it! First game down. Onwards!

11th March 2014> Y8 versus Northgate ... RESULT: Won 31-0

There are some good players developing with a little coaching. The collective played really well (again) and won 31 – 0. A big ‘well done’ to the whole team.

5th March 2014> Y8 versus Fakenham ... RESULT: Win

Fakenham’s captain was 6’1” and he had to stoop to shake Ewan Lait’s hand, but the whole Neatherd team stopped crying and decided to give it a go – and smashed them! A parent on the side line – who had watched them before Christmas – said they had “come on an awful long way.”

4th March 2014> Y9 versus Fram Earl .... RESULT: Won 50-19

This was the final for runners up in the pool games – (we only lost 1 game in the pools – with 6 players missing and lost by 2 points), so this is a genuinely good and hard-working team. The spectators said this team would have graced any final. Well done to you all!

5th February 2014> Y9 versus Notre Dame .... RESULT: Won 26-5

Well done to the Y9 rugby team. The weather was awful, raining, cold and very windy. Only 20 players on the pitch were interested – gladly, 15 of them were Neatherd! We played very well and every player showed a great attitude in unpleasant conditions. All players deserve a pat on the back for last night.

Softball 25 of our Y8 students took part in the Softball games at Fakenham. Fakenham are big on their softball, so we arranged it so that their students would teach ours some skills and then we mixed up teams and played games. Another great evening of sport saw: Sean Bishop, Liam Chipperfield, Joao Baptista, Reece Weedon, Reece Johnson, Michaela Rondell, Ella Warren, Moira McGuire, James Kimber, Jordan Bowie, Amelia Dorrington, Jack White, Alex Johnson, Jasmine Vincent, Chloe Newson, Jasmine Vincent, James Melladay, Ewan Lait, Rachel Harvey, Harlie Scott, Amelia Hodges, Lucy Thompson, Emily Jessop, Abi Foster, Lucie Gresham-Hill, Freya Budgett all participating. We intend to develop this, taking teams from Y7, 8 and 9 next year.

Sports Leaders It’s been another hugely successful year for our Sports Leaders, who have assisted in numerous competitions and Primary school festivals throughout the year. Back in October the Y10s helped with the Primary Schools Y5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics at Dereham Leisure Centre. Then a return to Dereham Leisure Centre in November saw the Key Skills 1 Multiskills Festivals for our local Primaries. In January we supported the running of the Y7 Aspire Sportshall Athletics and in February Neatherd hosted a Reception Year Multiskills festival, another event enjoyed by all. In April our Y9s assisted in the smooth running of our annual Primary school High 5 Netball Tournament, held here at Neatherd, and as always the girls were efficient and organised, making for a fabulous event. In June over 100 Y3, 4, 5 and 6 students from our Cluster Primary schools were entertained by 30 of our Y9 and 10 students at our Multisports Festival. The Y9s were selected from a group of potential Sports Leaders and BTEC students. The Y10s were some of our current Sports leaders who were ‘showing them the ropes’. As the youngsters sack raced, tri-golfed, long-jumped and obstacle coursed (to name but a few) their way around a carousel of activities, our students proved yet again that they have initiative, organisation skills, and a wonderful ability to interact with young people.

Rosie Ballman, Reya Muller, Caitlin Bedingfield, Bethany Greeves, Payten Hopcroft, Holly Lines, Chloe Bryant, Freya Arnold, Lauren Bradfield, Bonnie Dawson, Courtney Jones, Shirkera Read, Poppy Sivetter, James Rennie, Mthobisi Khumalo, Owen Mustard, Johnny Warmer, Mitchell Rump, Liam Dearden, Bogdan Nedkov, Henry Mowbray, Henry Pearce, Richard Joisce, James Allen, Jack Blyth, Connor Manly, Josh Walpole, Ash Woodroffe, Ellie Makins, Georgia Ingham, Megan Mann, Emma Jones, Brooke Daniels, Bryn Hughes, Tom Wall, Katie Egle, Elise Sait, Kiki Hart, Charlotte Walker, Olivia Boyce all helped to make the morning a complete success.

In the same week, some of our Y9 students went to North Elmham Primary school to help run their Sports Day. They did themselves proud again working brilliantly with the young children. They really enjoyed the experience and many have said they would like to be Sports Leaders next year, so they have more opportunity to work with younger people.

Megan Lait, Shannon Differ, Lisa McArdle, Lydia Winter, Ellie Poole, Jordan Fennah, Sophie Mann, Georgia Reeve, Frankie Vecchio, Ellie Dowdall, Vicky Bolton, Jessica Lahodna, Caoihme Cullen, Amber Alderton- Mcleod, Dot Williams Eley and Emily Whitaker helped make the afternoon run smoothly for the school.

In May, 16 of our Y8 girls went off to Easton College to help in the running of the Y3 and 4 Partnership Mini-tennis Competition. The girls were responsible for officiating and scoring the games, as well as ensuring the correct team were on the correct courts and that the children were ready to play.

All girls were so efficient at their job that they have been invited back to help at the County finals in July! Sportshall Athletics Neatherd competed in 3 different Sportshall Athletics competitions this year. Each of these events were qualifiers for the Winter Norfolk School games which many Neatherd students have since competed in. Starting us off were the Y8s who travelled to Taverham High School in December and came 3rd out of 5 schools. It was a very close competition with very few points between us and first/second place. When broken down into girls/boys competitions, our boys managed second place. There were some outstanding performances by Jamie Allsop, Liam Chipperfield and Abi Foster, who were all first in their track events. Jack White and Ewan Lait also did brilliantly finishing second in theirs. Then came the turn of the Aspire Y7 competitors, in January, when we only had to pop down to Dereham Leisure Centre. Each student had to participate in a carousel of field activities which included seated chest push, foam javelin throw, standing long jump, standing triple jump, and speed bounce. Then it was time for the track events which included races in pairs and teams of 4 relay races. Our students worked with real enthusiasm, and it was great to see them cheering their peers on during the races. Unfortunately we didn’t qualify but we had a thoroughly enjoyable time trying to! In addition to our competitors, 15 Sports leaders attended the event to help in the smooth running of it all. Again, they did a great job; thank-you all! Squad members were: Julia Ochman, Tash Begum, Kizzy Moore, Jessica Bradley, Elizabeth Sheldrick, Ellie Marshall, Stephanie Warmer, Peaches Jay, Christopher Bolton, Kelan Smart, Henry Rossiter, Max Tooke, Christian Conroy, George Richards. Sports Leaders: Emily Betts, Emily McDonnell, Tilly Slater, Megan Gilding, Harry Ward, Katie McArdle, Olivia Reeves, Gerogia Butters, Dan Eglington, Brogan O’Donovan, Katie Johnson, James Buck, Bethany Garner. Finally it was another group of Y7s who were to travel to Taverham High School in February. Field events included foam javelin throw, indoor shot, speed bounce, standing long jump and standing triple jump. Track events were the same as the previous competition. Again, our students did themselves proud with the girls achieving 4th place out of 6, and the boys gaining 2nd place! Overall we came 3rd, with only a few points between us, 2nd and 1st place. Squad members were: Peter Da Silva, Charlie Dickerson, Harry Gagen, Sam Lockhart, Tom Mackay, Aaron Duffield, Angus Aberdein, Adam Taylor, Ellie Plomer, Carrie-Ann Mileham, Alice Hart, Elizabeth Vogel, Maisie Passam, Beth Barley, and Amy Malin. Shannon Mather was selected to attend but sadly was unwell on the day.
