Dear Members and Apprentices, Summer is right around the corner and the return of the highly anticipated Nebraska Junior

Golf Tour is ready to kick off its fourth season. The Nebraska Junior Golf Tour was organized in

2009 by a joint venture of the leaders of the Nebraska Golf Association and the Nebraska PGA. Over

the past several months, the leaders of these two associations along with volunteers from the Nebraska

PGA Junior Golf Committee have assembled an attractive schedule of events for junior golf participa-

tion. The NJGT functions as the coordinating source of conducting these events. NikeGolf will again

be the presenting sponsor of the NJGT in 2012. NikeGolf is committed to supporting junior golf and

very excited to be the NJGT’s major partner in 2012. A special thanks to NikeGolf representatives,

Thad Franklin and Chandler Evans for their support.

Craig Ames and I recently hired Brett Bender, who is currently a PGM student at the Universi-

ty of Nebraska-Lincoln to serve as the point person for the tour. Brett is very talented and will also

assist Thomas and me at a few Pro-Ams this summer. Should you have any questions about the

NJGT please contact Brett via email at [email protected] or by calling 402-802-1998. One of the more

notable changes this year comes with the addition of each event will have its own Site Director. The-

se Site Directors will be onsite to provide a consistency for all of our NJGT events. Their roll is simp-

ly as a support person for the facility and will help field any questions that might arise during the

event. The promotion of this tour is largely in your hands and for us to be successful with these

events, we need your junior golfers participating. If you happen to be hosting an event in 2012 there

is a “revised” host facility checklist that will help guide you and your staff on procedures and expecta-

tions for running the event.

As we head into the month of June there are some outstanding playing opportunities for you

and your amateurs. These include Platteview Country Club, Quail Run, Happy Hollow Club, and fin-

ishing up with Firethorn Golf Club. Take a Monday off and bring some of your beloved members or

patrons and spend the day with them enjoying the game we all love.

Fairways and greens,

From the desk of the Executive Director

Dear Section Members, The Section officers and I wanted to communicate to you our candidate choice for the upcoming National election at the 96th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD in November. We have had an opportunity to visit face to face with all seven of the candidates in a question and answer environment and really learned about their beliefs and values regarding the PGA of America. It is an important election with the hope of our leaders tak-ing Golf 2.0 forward into the future and growing the game of golf. We have decided to second the nomination of Mr. Randy Hunt who is the PGA General Manager/COO of historic Milburn Golf and Country Club in Kansas City. Randy served as the District 7 Director from 2007 – 2009, was on the Prop-erties Task Force Committee from 2007 – 2010, on the Budget Committee from 2009 – 2010 and presently sits on the Employment Committee for which he was Co-Chair from 2008 – 2010. We have had many opportunities to talk with Randy either in person, on the phone or at meetings since this past January and he has consistently answered our questions and shared his vision with us. We also feel it is important to support a “Midwestern” guy with strong values who is not afraid to ask the hard questions. Randy has delivered in terms of results, effective opera-tions, fiscal integrity and innovation in all of his positions in the golf industry and we look forward to support-ing him in his run for Secretary of the National PGA of America. PGA of America launches Junior League Golf in 16 markets nationwide

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The PGA of America took another giant step forward in engaging aspiring boy and girl golfers by announc-ing the launch of PGA Junior League Golf, a fun and developmental program for juniors ages 7 to 13. The inaugural year is targeting 16 geographic markets. Administered by LEJ Sports of Norcross, Ga., a na-tionally recognized manager of youth sports pro-grams, PGA Junior League Golf will focus this year on developing 16 coed teams in each geographic market, with a maximum of 14 players per team. Competition would run from late May through mid-July under a series of 9-hole matches using a two-person Scramble format. Sixteen "travel" teams - composed of members of the local season-winning team and all-star players, would compete in four Regional Championships. Four re-gional champions would advance to a PGA Junior League Golf World Series targeted to be held in August in the host PGA Section of the current year's PGA Championship. "PGA Junior League Golf marks the beginning of the next fun step to growing the game among young-sters nationwide in a less stressful atmosphere that brings together families and benefits local golf facil-ities," said PGA of America President Allen Wronowski. "One just has to think back to the birth of Little League when countless youngsters got their first chance to become involved in a sport they loved. We believe the same model is in effect with PGA Junior League Golf." The 2012 PGA Junior League Golf Regions and tar-get markets: Western - Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle

Central - Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis Southern - Atlanta, Birmingham, South Florida, Tampa Northeast - Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. "Junior League Golf could not have a better partner than The PGA of America as we endeavor to bring a more recreational structure to the game for youngsters," said Bob Longmire, founder of Junior League Golf. "PGA Professionals will now have a turn-key approach to introducing youngsters of all skill levels to the great game of golf. Our player-development driven mission is consistent with the goals of The PGA, especially with the advent of Golf 2.0. We are excited about this opportunity to work directly under the guidance of the Golf 2.0 team, and PGA Section leaders for a successful launch to our new partnership." Junior League Golf went through a successful test program in 2011 in Atlanta, Dallas, San Diego and Tampa, Fla., with a four-team JLG World Series conducted last September at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga. About PGA Junior League Golf PGA Junior League Golf is the "Little League" approach to the great game of golf, where every youngster gets the chance to play. Designed to better socialize the game of golf for juniors 13 and under, JLG features a team vs. team format in a structured league that provides for a more popular, less stress-ful competition. The emphasis is on the fun, recrea-tion, and sportsmanship of the game for players at any skill level.

WHAT IS IT? TEE IT FORWARD is a consumer-awareness cam-paign designed to encourage golfers to play the course at a length that best suits their abilities. Golf-ers can play faster and have more fun by utilizing tees that provide the greatest playability and enjoy-ment.

TEE IT FORWARD will help golfers hit approach shots into greens using more lofted clubs, similar to the approach shots TOUR players hit. Ask golfers to keep track of the clubs they used on approach shots so they can enter that data into the “TEE IT FOR-WARD Club Calculator” sweepstakes to be eligible to win prizes.

WHAT SHOULD I DO? As a TEE IT FORWARD host facility, you are asked to: • Encourage players to select tees best suited to their game – use the materials to help promote the con-cept. • Consider ways to modify your course setup to make it more playable and enjoyable. • Encourage your customers to provide their feed-back at PlayGolfAmerica.com/TEEITFORWARD. • Continue to monitor how this is received by your customers and how it impacts pace of play.

HELPFUL HINTS: Use the marketing materials to help promote TEE IT FORWARD to your customers: • Display the TEE IT FORWARD poster. • Download and use the web banners on your facility website and in your newsletters/calendars. • Share the “Suggested Talking Points” with your entire staff, especially starters and golf shop staff. Go to PGALinks.com to download additional

TIPS FOR SUCCESS AT YOUR FACILITY

materials, rack cards and cart signs. In addition, officially registered facilities will appear on the TEE IT FORWARD search on PlayGolfAmeri-ca.com. It’s not too late to register as an official host facility at PGALinks.com.

CONSUMER FEEDBACK AND SWEEPSTAKES: Collecting feedback from golfers is important for this campaign. All golfers, regardless of their participation or opinions, should be directed to PlayGolfAmeri-ca.com/TEEITFORWARD to share their feedback and be entered for a chance to win prizes. One lucky golfer will a Grand Prize of two tickets to the 2012 Ryder Cup. Runners-up will win two tickets to either the 2013 U.S. Open or the 2013 PGA Championship.

HOW TO EARN MSRs: Two (2) MSR credits will be awarded for PGA Profes-sionals who verify they promoted TEE IT FORWARD by responding to a post-initiative survey.

E M P LOY M E N T

I am relatively sure some of you are so busy right now that reading an article in the newsletter is the fur-thest thing from your brain!! Years ago, I did an interview with the PGA Media Department where the coined phrase of, “those who fail to plan, plan to fail,” came out of my mouth. Whether you subscribe to this simple proverb or not, the idea of getting you to think about how a Player Development Busi-

ness Plan is being formulated at your facility is my goal! The previous two articles have dealt with the action steps necessary to get the Golf 2.0 Player Development initiative incorporated into your facility. I “playfully” have called the action steps, “The Circle of Life”, (Communicate- Analyze- Planning- Marketing- Execution- Tracking). You have hopefully gotten the first two steps going and now you should be on your way to creating a Player Development Business Plan. The introduction of the Playbook identified the theme of “It’s Personal”. My goal for you is to have you take as much control of your employment and add value to your facility so the “It’s Personal” takes on meaning and relevance. By generating business, enhancing your leadership role and embracing opportunities that Golf 2.0 has in it Player Development models, your value to your employer should increase. Your Player Development Business Plan should include: • Core Strategic Framework (a Mission Statement- something that guides the actions and development of your Player Development plans and a Vision Statement- what the plan looks like in the future). • Objectives- set goals that have potentially the biggest impact on your facility’s business. These goals should be aggressive yet realistic. • Programming Functions- the roadmap towards achieving your objectives- identifies what you want to ac-complish and who is responsible. • Budget- forecast ballpark figures that show your employer the desired net impact to the bottom line based on the participation objectives you have established. By incorporating the first three action steps (Communication- Analysis- Planning) of the “Circle of Life”, you are on your way to achieving increased value and employment security- something we should all strive to attain!

CROWDED LEADERBOARD AT THE BUSHNELL/CLUB CAR PRO-3AM

Omaha, Neb- On a day where the winds howled at 20 miles per hour all day, several Nebraska PGA professionals and their teams competed in the Bushnell/Club Car Pro-3AM at Champions Run. It was a crowded leaderboard at the top as three professionals tied for first in the professional division after finishing at 70 and five teams finished in first at eight under-par 136.

Chad Lydiatt, PGA of Awarii Dunes, Jon Petersen, PGA of Mira-cle Hill Golf and Tennis Center and Ryan Vermeer of Oak Hills all finished at two under-par to finish two strokes clear of the two way tie at fourth.

“It was very windy so I knew I was going to make a few bogeys,” said Lydiatt, who made five birdies on the day. “I just tried to be aggressive on certain holes to make up for those bogies.”

Bryan Hughett, PGA of Norfolk Country Club went out early and set the pace by firing an even-par round of 72 which was good enough for a tied fourth place finish. Host professional, Greg Neujahr, PGA, finished a little after Hughett but was able to match his 72 and finish tied with him for fourth overall. The team divi-sion provided plenty of excitement as five teams finished in a tie for first at eight under-par 136 in the one net + one gross format. The winning teams consisted of:

The senior division was won by Jim White, PGA MP West Nine and Learning Center who finished at two over-par 74. White’s 74 was good enough for a one shot win over Mike Schuchart, PGA Wilderness Ridge Golf Club who finished at three over-par 75. The highlight of the day goes to Shannon Johnson, amateur partner of Jesse Brodersen, PGA of Albion Country Club, who holed out her six iron at the par 5 17th hole for double eagle. This was Johnson’s first career double eagle who covers the Nebraska territory for PING golf.
