Holiday Happenings - Paris Schaul, Activity Professional This year has been a crazy roller-coaster ride. Its hard to believe its already December, with Christmas coming right around the corner! This crazy coaster has been hard on us all, but Good Neighbor Society is dedicated to bringing special moments and activities to residents and tenants, so you can feel extra loved and supported not only by staff, but also your community and family members. We have many fun holiday activities and traditions planned on the calendar this month as well as more to show up as we navigate through changing guidelines due to COVID-19 . As of now, we are planning to have several small Christmas parties, so each resident will have the opportunity to share in celebrating with other residents while observing social distancing. We have other back-up plans in place if guidelines change by the time Christmas comes around to ensure we can provide residents with the best Christmas experience we can! Some opportunities to show residents some love this holiday season are listed below: Mail a card or call to chat on the phone Send a quick note and picture at HappyGram.org Sign-up to video chat at volunteersignup.org/RAXWK E-mail messages or pictures to [email protected] Thank you for making this holiday season special! Merry Christmas! Neighborly News December 2020 Christmas Greetings to All, - Pastor Kurt Pasko, Chaplain I have been busy preparing for worship and visits with as many of you as possible before Christmas once I receive the all-clearto return to you. In the midst of all the challenges Good Neighbor Society has faced because of COVID-19, I know the number one concern has been your health and safety. We are keenly aware of the emotional toll the isolation has caused on residents and staff alike. Please remember we are all part of God's family. I have seen His hands at work, and I have heard His words of comfort repeatedly through the marvelous staff that care for you daily. Please remember to thank them. Jesus truly is the reason for the season. I have been praying extra hard that you would be aware of His presence day and night. I hope to visit you with Him soon. Holiday blessings to each of you!

Pandemics Can Be Stressful (Source: cdc.gov) The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic may be stressful. Fear and anxiety about a new disease and what could happen can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Public health actions, such as social distancing, can make people feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety. However, these actions are necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Coping with stress in a healthy way will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.

Take care of yourself and your community Taking care of your friends and your family can be a stress reliever, but it should be balanced with care for yourself. Helping others cope with their stress, such as by providing social support, can also make your community stronger. During times of increased social distancing, people can still maintain social connections and care for their mental health. Phone calls or video chats can help you and your loved ones feel socially connected, less lonely, or isolated.

Healthy ways to cope with stress Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including those on social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting. Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals. Exercise regularly. Get plenty of sleep. Avoid excessive alcohol and drug use. Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy. Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling. Connect with your community- or faith-based organizations. While social distancing measures are in place, consider connecting online, through social media, by phone, or by mail.
