Neosolpan installation with ceramic tiles
1. Tiling battens
When you place the tiling battens for the ceramic tiles from Migeon Wienerberger , you
can use a distance of the tiling battens between 31 and 37 cm.
For the Sun tiles , Neosolpan , a fixed distance between the tiling battens of 35.5 cm + 0.2
cm must be used. This dimension is from the top to top of the tiling battens , see photo
in annex.
Because we’ve a height difference between the Sun tile and the ceramic tile, the height
of the tiling battens where the Sun tiles will be placed on , must be 1 cm lower then where
you’ll place the ceramic tiles. Remark that the positioning level of the two different tiling
battens on the top is the same. You have two different options to do this :
1. You take 1 cm of the existing tiling battens where you’ll place the Sun tiles
2. Or you add 1 cm to the tiling battens where you’ll place the ceramic tiles.
3. I prefer the first options. See photo below :
When the tiling battens are fixed , we can calculate how many Sun tiles can be placed next
to each other ( Rows ) and on top of each other ( columns ). Nominal dimension between
the rows is 30.4 cm+/- 0.2 cm. See the “ smetting lines” on the tiling battens. We measure
by two Sun tiles next to each other ( 2 x 30.4 = 60.8 cm) nominal because installation will
be done by two rows simultaneously, see later.
The distance between the tiling battens of the bottom Suntiles to the ceramic tiles must
be 36,5 cm. If less , the chassis of the Suntiles will make contact with the top of the
ceramic tile and dilatation of the Suntiles becomes impossible.
2. Electrical wiring
When the tiling battens are placed and the smetting lines are positioned, then we can
calculate how many Sun tiles can be placed ( rows and columns ). Once we know this , we
can look for the optimal string calculation : maximum 60 to 70 Sun tiles in serial
connection is ok. Then we can place the electrical wiring , 4 mm ² solar cable to foresee in
red and black underneath the tiling battens. One end will be where the string will start
with the Sun tile, red cable with female MC4 connector . The other end of the cable will
go to the inverter. We do the same with the black cable with male connector, we go to
the end of the string on the roof and the other end to the inverter. See photo below.
As you can see , on the red cable we’ve already a female connector MC4 , ready for
connection to the first Sun tile. The same for the black cable with the male connector MC4.
It’s necessary to have these female and male MC4 connectors and the necessary tooling
to connect the MC4 connectors to the Solar cables during installation. The Solar cables
red and black 4 mm² can be bought as the connectors in electrical shops.
3. Interconnection Sun Tile – ceramic tile
When the tiling battens are placed , you can start from the right to the left to cover the
roof. Where you’ll have the combination Ceramic tile with the Sun Tile , an intermedium
part is necessary for achieving good watertight interface.
- First mill of the left of the ceramic tile as on the photo on the front and the
back. Position the intermedium part and then fix the ceramic tile on the tiling
batten. Once you done this place also the Sun Tile next to it.
4. Interconnection Sun Tile – Sun Tile
Interconnection of the suntiles by the connectors is easy : plug in as on the photo below :
5. Inverter – connection with strings
All the different strings coming from the roof will be assembled where the inverter will be
placed. Ideal place should be a cool and ventilated area. Each inverter will be connected
to a DC fuse of for example 5 A. Then eventually we’ll go in a parallel connection to the
MPP trackers of the Inverter. After the inverter a AC fuse will be placed before connection
to the Grid or battery management system. On the photo below we’ve 6 strings coming
in , then after the 5 A DC fuses we go with three strings in parallel the first MPP tracker
and we do the same with the other 3 strings, which go to the second MPP tracker of the
Inverter.
