Simplicity…
SYMANTEC VISION 2014 12
What complexity problems are we trying to solve?
Deployment needs to be
simple and low risk
I spend too much time managing backups
It is too difficult to troubleshoot problems
• Make it simpler to install and upgrade to new versions of NetBackup
• Reduce the infrastructure necessary to manage NetBackup
• When something goes wrong, provide me with the tools and information required to remedy the problem self sufficiently
• When I call for tech support I want the issue resolved sooner
• Reduce the number of hours that I need to spend managing backups
• Connect the administration of backup and my virtual platform
• Coordinate backups with my snapshots because they are both part of my overall data protection strategy
SYMANTEC VISION 2014
Cloud Vision

Versatility…
SYMANTEC VISION 2014
What diverse environment you are trying to protect today?
Protect Multi-
hypervisor environment
Application data exploding, current protection method too slow
I have to protect diverse environment
• My datacenter is standardized on VMware today, there is a big push to adopt different Hypervisors
• I need my backup platform to wotk seamless with V-Center and System Center
• I am asked to evaluate OpenStack Storage for future trends
• I have to protect Physical and Virtual infrastructure
• I have to protect remote office physical and Virtual environment
• I have to protect enterprise “Privet Cloud”
• I need intelligent application protection that can do auto discovery of deployment
• I need a new approach to slash my backup window

SYMANTEC VISION 2014
NetBackup’s Versatility Vision – Protect Everything, Everywhere, Anytime
Unified protection platform
Multi Hypervisor
Intelligent Application Discovery & Protection
NetBackup as a Software, Appliance, Virtual Appliance
• Trail blaze Hyper-V protection matching VMware offerings
• Integrate with native virtualization consoles like VMware
V-Center , Microsoft System Center
• Enterprise level protection for emerging trends like OpenStack virtualization
• Transform NetBackup to be there where workload resides
• Offer easy to scale, deploy NetBackup appliance , virtual appliance for remote offices.
• Biomni NetBackup in MSP and Cloud scenarios
• Application agents will auto-discover and protect the application instances natively.
• Slash the backup windows with technologies like Accelerator, Appliance FRA, Replication Director

technology
Oracle info is lost
Move to NetBackup to maintain history and free space
Two stage recovery
Dump

NFS
share
Dump to disk
• Remains friendly, and familiar for DBAs because the process is unchanged.
• Storage Savings and network efficiencies
• Cost of storage can be combined to lower cost of ownership
Dump
area
•Oracle Agent x-ray vision enables smart DB backups and proper record-keeping in the NBU and RMAN catalogs.
•Browse and protect the dump area knowing that the share contains Oracle instances + databases
•Off-host the backup process from the Oracle client onto the appliance
•Oracle intelligent backup policy automatically generates the RMAN scripts to off-host the dump area backup and catalog the Oracle objects with RMAN.
•Takes load off the Oracle Server

Performance…
SYMANTEC VISION 2014 21
What Performance problems are we trying to solve?
My backups and restores are
taking too long
I need to protect my critical data more often
My backup infrastructure is not scaling enough to meet my workloads
• Help me get my backups and recoveries done in time to meet my SLA’s. I have minutes or hours in this current 24x7 world, not days
• In order to meet my SLA’s my data needs to be available wherever I need it
• Help me scale my data protection infrastructure to meet the demands of my SLAs without adding hardware and additional complexity
• Provide me with a backup target that can scale to handle my expanding data growth
• Help me meet my Recovery Point Objective SLAs by allowing me to protect my data at more frequent intervals
• Allow me to Integrate with the snapshots we already use for protection
SYMANTEC VISION 2014 22
NetBackup’s Performance and Scalability Vision –
RTO
RPO
Scale
• Break through traditional recovery limitations by leveraging the ability to roll back changed data
• Allow users to access backup images in native format for immediate access of applications
• Provide a NetBackup infrastructure that has the elasticity and resiliency required for the future cloud driven data center.
• Deliver industry-leading capacity with best-of-breed intelligence
• Backup will meet more stringent RPO standards by moving away from data movement towards orchestrating native data copies
• Remove the barriers that prevent customers from running Full backups as often as needed to protect their environment
SYMANTEC VISION 2014
Accelerator Optimized Copy: Efficiently copy data between heterogeneous disk storage targets
23
Let me stage a copy of my backup to fast disk
for restore but efficiently copy it to my
long-term dedupe storage target
Help me efficiently copy data from my OST
storage device to my NetBackup appliance
Let me stage a copy of my backup data to a local device but then
efficiently send copies to cloud targets

Security…
SYMANTEC VISION 2014 25
Ensure NetBackup meets my individual and regulatory compliance security requirements
Meet my security department’s requirements
Track and report all actions
Provide restricted & granular access
• Secure everything in transit and in rest
• Ensure privacy and integrity of the data being protected
• Users should have visibility and control only over those elements of the product as defined by their role
• Support for a multi-tenancy environment
• Report & track all actions taken in my NetBackup environment
• Raise alerts when appropriate for “critical” actions
Meet regulatory requirements for my organization
• Meet compliance and security standards/certifications required by the government for my industry
• FIPS 140-2, FISMA, etc.

“Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Some fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do
something else. The trick is keep doing something else”
