LDAP Server (Active Directory Configuration)

Active Directory needs to be configured to build an LDAP server with Windows Server 2003. Configuring Active Directory allows you to centrally manage information such as user data. The scanner accesses the LDAP server to login or display an e-mail address book.A DNS server must be set in order to use Active Directory. Therefore, if the system has no DNS server or the existing DNS server is not used for the system, the DNS server function of Windows Server 2003 must be installed with Active Directory. This chapter describes the LDAP server settings, using Windows Server 2003 as an example, on the assumption that the system has an existing DNS server.

2.1 Summary

The user data is managed on an LDAP server which supports the X.500 directory protocol service. This section describes the following user data.

• User Name• Password• E-mail Address

When using a LDAP server, set the following data on the LDAP server.

To connect the scanner to the LDAP server, login as the administrator and set the [Network Settings] - "LDAP Server" settings.

Info Save in ... Used to ...

User Name LDAP server Set the user name

Password LDAP server Set the password

Search Base (DN) Set the top level DN path on the LDAP server used for search-ing user data. Set according to the user data on the LDAP server. Optimizing the search base DN level enables the LDAP server to search most efficiently.

Maximum Results Set the maximum number of results for LDAP List searches.

Search Timeout Set the LDAP list searches timeout delay.

2.2 Communicating to the LDAP Server

The scanner searches user data in the following way:

1. When the scanner receives a user login request, the scanner binds to the LDAP server using the user name and password specified at the time of the request.

2. To check if the user name specified at the time of the login has been registered, it is searched for in the LDAP server. The LDAP server searches LDAP entries using the search base (DN). If the user name has not been registered in the LDAP server, the login request is refused.

5.1 Summary

The scanned data can be output to the printer connected to the print server. To use the print server, set the following information on the print server.

The scanner prints on printers connected to the print server. The printing method corresponds to the print properties set on the print server. Therefore, it is recommended to add printers for which printing properties have been set on the print server. To connect the scanner to a print server, login as the administrator, select [Network Settings] - [Network Printer], and set the following information.

5.3 Printer Settings

Specify a printer on the print server. For more details, refer to "3.6.8 Setting the Network Printers" in the "Network Scanner fi-6000NS Operator’s Guide".

ATTENTIONWhen using a network printer, note the following.• This scanner can print on a printer connected to the print server. In

addition, the scanner cannot print directly to a network printer.• Be sure to read the printer manual beforehand for information about setting

the printer, adding a network printer, and other cautions.• The driver installed on the print server must be compatible with Windows

XP. To check whether the drivers installed on the the print server are Windows XP compatible drivers, display the [Additional Drivers] screen in the printer properties and check that the "Processor" is "x86" (or intel), and that "Installed" is "Yes" for version Windows XP.

• If the drive on which the spool folder for the print server exists does not have enough free space, printing will stop. Make sure that there is enough space in the drive before printing.

• For the printing function, the properties data spedified for the printer on the print server is downloaded and used by the scanner. The propeties downloaded to the scanner are displayed in the print properties [Description] - [Standard settings]. The same printer can be specified more than once with different propeties settings.

• If a printer connected to different print servers is to be registered as a network printer multiple times, the software level of the driver should be the same on each print server. If the software level of the printer driver differs, printing errors may occur.

• The default network printer alias will be the same as the alias selected from the network tree.

• Once the network printer is registered, do not change the shared name or printer alias on the print server.

• To change the shared name or printer alias, remove the registered network printer first, and then change the shared name/printer alias, and reigster it again.

• Do not set a virtual printer. Virtual printer is a printer device which uses software to emulate the upper interface of a printer driver of an actual printer. Data from an application to be printed is output and saved in pdf or bmp format by the software driver that emulates the actual printer.

WINS Server

The WINS server handles name registration requests from WINS clients to register their names and IP addresses. The WINS server responds to NetBIOS name queries submitted by clients, returning the IP address of a queried name if it is listed in the server database. In addition, when a DNS name resolution fails, the query can be transferred to the WINS server. This chapter describes the WINS server settings using Windows Server 2003 as an example.

Fax Server

The fax server the scanner supports is "RightFax".The fax function of this scanner sends the scanned data as an attached file to the send mail server (SMTP) based on the information set with the "Fax Server" screen of administrative function. When RightFax accesses the receive mail server (POP3) on a regular basis and detects the sent mail, the data is analyzed and sent by fax. Thus, SMTP server and POP3 service must be set before using RightFax with this scanner. For SMTP server and POP3 service settings, refer to "Chapter 3 Mail Server" (page 23).This chapter describes the fax server settings using Windows 2003 as an example.

9.1 Installing RightFax

For information on installing RightFax, refer to a manual that describes RightFax installation. This scanner uses RightFax E-mail Gateway functions for SMTP/POP3 (henceforth referred to "E-mail Gateway").The E-mail Gateway monitors specified mailboxes of a mail server. If an e-mail is received, it is accessed by using POP3, imported to the RightFax server, and sent by fax. For e-mail routing, the scanner uses a method for specifying a fax number in the e-mail address description-area. (It is not necessary for customers to be aware of the description area.) Using this e-mail routing method les-sons need to make changes to the mail server settings. For details about E-mail Gateway, refer to "Using RightFax E-mail Gateways" and "Simple mail-box with description-area fax information" in the "RightFax Administrator’s Guide".Hereinafter, "RFAX" account is used as an example to explain how RightFax uses POP3 to moni-tor a mail server mailbox to access an account.

2. Add and configure E-mail Gateways.

1. Run the E-mail Gateway configuration program.Run the E-mail Gateway configuration program in one of the following ways.

• If you did not add an e-mail gateway during the RightFax server installation, you can open the E-mail Gateway configuration program from Windows Control Panel.

• If you already have one or more e-mail gateways configured, you can open the E-mail Gateway configuration program by double-clicking the RightFax E-mail Gateway service in Enterprise Fax Manager.

⇒The "E-mail Configuration" dialog box opens.

Sending without notificationWhen sending, an e-mail is sent by fax. When receiving, a fax or image is received as an e-mail attachment.Notifications result of sending/receiving transmissions, which are sent as e-mails.When using the scanner, to send e-mail data as a fax, it is necessary to set "Both", "Outbound with Notifications", or "Outbound without Notifications". If you have two mail servers (one dedicated to SMTP and one dedi-cated to POP3), create two equivalent SMTP/POP3 E-mail Gateways and set one to perform only inbound messaging and the other to per-form only outbound messaging in the following way. Press the [Add Gateway...] button, and set the following.• SMTP server

In "Server address", set the SMTP server name or SMTP server IP address. For "E-mail delivery direction", set "Inbound Only".
