What it means for your child?

• Every child will be encouraged to do the

subjects at the levels that best meet her abilities

• To provide more flexibility to pupils with

strengths and abilities that vary across subjects.

NOT intended to provide a softer option

• Removal of streams in Primary 5 and 6

banding work?

At the end of P4:

• School makes recommendation for a subject combination

• Parents have the optionto accept the school’s recommendation or proceed with their own choice

Q: Should my child take Foundation

subject(s)?

S Must be guided by child’s ability. Come talk to us about it.

S Implications of Foundation subjects on T-score, & ability to cope in secondary school

S Foundation Maths: Importance of Mathematics in the secondary school; for application to polytechnic & ITE

S Foundation MT: MT ‘B’ is offered in the secondary school

S ‘U’ grade implications: S Std subjects: >20 marks

S Foundation subjects: >30 marks

Q: Should my child take HMT or not?

S Bonus points only given to pupils if they are

S Applying for admission to SAP schools

S In the top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take HCL

S Points awarded:

S Distinction (3 pts)

S Merit (2 pts)

S Pass (1 pt)

S HMTL is a 5th subject. Can your child take the additional load?

S In S1, pupils can offer HMT even if they do not offer it at PSLE. Criteria:

S Top 10% of the PSLE cohort

S Top 11-30% of the PSLE cohort and obtain at least an A* (MTL) or Merit (HMTL)

S Pls note that not all secondary schools offer HMTL

S Useful for DSA? Depends

Q: What is ‘DSA-Sec Ex’?

S Gives participating schools greater flexibility in their admission of students

S Adheres to key principles of transparency and meritocracy.

S Talents & achievements, in both academic and non-academic areas, can be considered for S1 admission.

S Each participating school sets its own criteria for selection, based on the academic and/or non-academic areas that the school would like to emphasise.

S Include portfolios, trials, interviews or tests
