New 3 Person Officiating Referee Clinic this season This years Moabit Easter Cup (March 24- March 28, 2016) will once again feature a special event. In special cooperation with the Dutch Organisation iBasketball Officiating’s Cool we will host another 3 person officiating referee clinic. The famous British referee instructor Bob Bhania will headline the staff of the event. First edition Last year’s clinic was an experiment but nevertheless proved to be a success. Ibasketball’s chairman Bas Hendriks: ‘We had some setbacks in the final weeks before the tournament last year, but the participants that took part in the clinic were all enthousiastic’.

After the first theoretical session where position and area’s of responsability were covered the group went to the gym to feel the new positions. After that the group had four days of 3 person officiating with ingame and in between game coaching with very usefull and positive coaching. Brilliant Clinic Swedish participant Caroline Svensson (left) shared her thoughts after the clinic: ‘I thought the clinic was brilliant. Never gotten so much feedback on my refereeing in such short time ever before. It was really good there was so many instructors available for every game, well needed when all participants were very new to three man mechanics.’ Dutch rookie referee Merve Aslan added: ‘I never did a 3 PO game before, as I only

started reffing at the beginning of the season, but through the excellent coaching our confidence grew every game. A few months after the tournament I even got invited to do a preparation match of the boys national team U16!. It was awesome!’ Coaching will once again be in game and in between games, and all participants will gather for classical sessions between the games as well. This will lead to a greater effect of the coaching so all participants will become better refs. Chief coach Bhania: ‘Wheather you normally do games with a two man crew or a three men crew, a lot of things are alike: Violations, fouls, communication with players, body languague and so on.‘ The coaches will help the partipating referees in getting better in all those areas. He adds with a smile: ‘And what is cooler than learning the mechanics that are used in the highest league in your country. You never know when it might come in handy!’
