This year was more fun than I could have imagined. I think what made it run so smoothly was being able to count on such a terrific Executive Board and Committee Chairs. Our House Committee under Dianne McConnell did an outstanding job making arrangements for the delicious refreshments at our General Meetings. Martha Schoenfeld and the Nominating Committee worked for months ensuring that we have a great Executive Board for the coming year, and I am most grateful for their dedication and hard work. Our publicity was handled expertly by Meg Basinski, and behind the scenes, Jo Ann Cesari did a wonderful job keeping our Membership Data Base up to date. I must also thank Judy Spiewak who made many of the restaurant arrangements for our post meeting luncheons. Last but not least, I am grateful to all the historians who are keeping a visual record of our activities over the past year. The winter weather unfortunately caused a cancellation of the January General Meeting, but we certainly had cause to celebrate on the beautiful sunny day of our February Birthday Luncheon. Carroll’s Creek provided the backdrop for the most well attended luncheon that I can recall in recent years. Judy Schwartz and her creative committee certainly made it a memorable event. Looking forward, I am excited by the plans underway by Deanne Berman and Carol Stern for this year’s finale and the first ever President’s luncheon to be held at the Severn Inn on Wednesday, June 24th. Please don’t forget that space is limited and the deadline for reservations is June 15 th . Even if you’re a new member, I urge you to consider jumping in to chair or co-chair an interest group or contributing in some other way. It is this involvement that is key to making us a strong and sustainable organization. However, it is your support, kind words and encouragement that have made it such a pleasure for me, and I sincerely thank you all for this amazing opportunity. 1st VICE PRESIDENT-NEWCOMERS Georgina Hammond (410-263-4342) [email protected] All Newcomers (new members are newcomers for a year after joining) are invited to alternating coffees at 10am or teas at 1pm on the third Thursday of each month. On Thursday, June 18th Newcomers coffee (10-12) will be hosted by Ginny Sattler at her home. Please join us to meet other newcomers and learn about events in and around Annapolis. Watch for an email from your Big Sister, and mark your calendars for these fun get-togethers. Ina Bowers will be hostess for our Newcomers Tea on July 16th.

2nd VICE PRESIDENT-PROGRAMS Ana Garcia (956-763-7550) [email protected]

Darryl Hagner, Business Liaison Analyst from the Office of the Chief of Police, will be rounding out the season with some good tips and interesting stories on topics such as Terrorism, Opiod/Heroin Issues, Theft from Auto Issues and our favorite, Scams!

The optional lunch after the program is at Lemongrass Too, located at 2625 A Housely Road, Annapolis. http://lemongrassannapolis.com

The $20 family style lunch includes tax and gratuity. Cash payment will be taken in the church lobby before the General Meeting. If you are arriving late or can't make the meeting and would like to join us for lunch, e-mail or call Judy Spiewak to reserve your seat at 508.877.2686.

3rd VICE PRESIDENT-MEMBERSHIP

Ann Carroll (410-224-2753) [email protected]

It’s  renewal  time! And I thank so many of you for returning your bright coral pink renewal forms so promptly. If  you  haven’t  sent  your  form  in  yet  with your check, I would appreciate it very much if you would send in the entire form rather than cutting it, as it is much easier to process and store that way with the others.

Also, please remember that there are penalties when dues are not paid before June 30. All unpaid dues will incur late fees (a $10 reinstatement fee plus a $5-per-month fine for each subsequent delinquent month) through 12/31/15. For example:

$35 in July- $40 in August- $45 in September

$50 in October- $55 in November -$60 in December

As you can see, the penalties add up quickly. And after December 31, you will not be able to rejoin at all. So please, please pay your dues before the deadline.

We added a bumper crop of new members to our midst last month – 11 in all. That brings our membership total now to 666 – 20 more than we had this time last year.

And  once  again…if  any  of  you  know  someone  who  has  recently moved to the Greater Annapolis area and expressed an interest in joining New Annapolitans, please ask her to contact me. Be sure to encourage prospective members to visit the New Annapolitans' website at www.annapolitans.org where links are available to download our current newsletter and new member application.

4th VICE PRESIDENT-INTEREST GROUPS Ann Dixon (443-458-5042) [email protected]

I hope all of you are enjoying this marvelous spring weather. Summer will soon be here and I want to remind you that several of our Interest Groups continue during the summer months. Here are a few of those groups: After Hours, bridge groups, golf and tennis groups, Women on Water, some of the book clubs, and NANA's. If you would like to try one of these groups, please contact the Chair and enjoy the fun. Just a final reminder to all Interest Groups to please email me the names of the chairs or co-chairs, as soon as possible, who will serve your group next year. Even if there is no change, please let me know that, too. Thanks. Again, a great big thank you to our current Chairs and Co-Chairs for your leadership, hard work, and a job well done. Have a great summer.

Once on the NANAs’  email list, you will receive a detailed email a few days before a walk, specifying time and meeting place. If you are not yet on our mailing list, call Ginger before the Tuesday walk for the current itinerary. In rainy weather, we walk in the Westfield Annapolis Shopping Mall at 9 a.m. We meet at the sofas in front of the interior Nordstrom entrance. RECOLLECTIONS (2nd Monday at 2p.m.) Sally Ehrle (410-224-2861) [email protected]

We will end our year on June 8th at Duffy McHugh's home to share our stories about "A Life Change." We share "snippets" of our lives, the challenges, comedies and celebrations. It is a perfect way to know others, deepen your memory and be entertained. The hostess selects the topic and everyone writes a short (2-3 page) recollection or reflection to read aloud interpreting the topic to fit their story. It is about the stories, not the writing style. And your stories are available to share with family members if you choose. If you wish to experience Recollections, please contact Sally Ehrle for meeting specifics and/or to be placed on our email list.

WOMEN ON WATER (WOW) Lorraine Fassett (410-573-1030) [email protected] Ginger DeLuca (410-626-0098) [email protected]

Our April Brunch  and  meeting  at  Ginger  DeLuca’s  home brought forth many great suggestions for activities for our members starting in early May and then offering at least one activity a month up through the fall season. The June event will be the South River Federation Kayak and Picnic on Saturday, June 20th from 10-2 with more information closer to the date. Other activities may include walks and kayaking at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville, kayaking at Quiet Waters Park, a tour of the Thomas Point Lighthouse, a sail on a skipjack, a car trip to St. Michaels to the Chesapeake Maritime Museum and then lunch, an overnight stay on Tangiers Island taking the ferry out of Crisfield plus a few impromptu happy hours and/or breakfasts.

We are still looking for a member with a sailboat but until that time we are an active, fun-loving group who love being together. Stay tuned and contact Lorraine with any suggestions and/or questions.

NA RESOURCES Terry Martini (443-221-7260) [email protected] Whether you've just moved to this area or have lived here for years, we all need help finding reliable people for projects in our everyday lives. With over 50 New Annapolitans members that have offered to consider your request, you will find exactly who or what you need. You will not get advertisements or multiple e-mails only a suggestion from another member of our group. Send your request to [email protected]. We will send your question to our volunteers who will answer you only if they have used someone personally and had a good experience with them. It's almost like talking to a group of friends over coffee. Please do know that these are only suggestions between members. New Annapolitans takes no responsibility for any shared information.
