APRIL REFLECTION 2020

Who would have thought April would see us all learning so many new skills in such a short time. Teachers this month have been preparing themselves for online lesson delivery in so many unique and creative ways. Engaging children remotely, catering for so many diverse situations while remaining upbeat and positive for the families. This has been an incredible achievement for our teachers. The general consensus is “We miss the children.” We are teachers with unique skills and this doesn’t just mean being able to create lessons. We miss the interaction, the humour, the camaraderie, the banter, the body language, the unspoken moments and the joy of seeing the successes and celebrating them as a group. The joyous moments are still coming, only in the form of photos, videos, the audio and the work uploads. Enjoy some of these moments with us in this month’s reflection pages.

Term 2 Curriculum News

RAINBOW DAY

Through these special events and extracurricular activities, we aim to further

develop critical and creative thinking and personal and social capabilities.

We celebrated the end of Week 2 with a Rainbow Dress Up Day! Exactly where the rainbow trend began, who knows, but as the coronavirus emergency deepens across the world, rainbows are helping families cope. The motivation is to reinforce with kids that the pandemic won't last forever and that everything will be OK. Students dressed up in their rainbow clothes, created rainbow pictures and even used chalk to decorate their driveway! We look forward to a different theme every Friday during home learning.

ANZAC DAY Publication Date

ANZAC Day at Kananook was celebrated very differently this year.

We missed being a part of the R.S.L’s service and participating in the choir. However, we still took the time to reflect and thank the ANZAC’s by writing letters and designing posters citing the ‘Ode Of Remembrance’. We look forward to being back at the R.S.L next year.

FACILITIES UPDATE

As we find ourselves in these strange and challenging times, progress continues to be made at school to make our facilities the best that they can be. Earlier this year the Kananook School Council approved funding to enable a major upgrade on the outside of our School Hall so that it will match in with the main wing, Cooinda and the newly renovated Administration building.

Works include removing all of the tired timber work and eaves and replacing these with cement and Colourbond sheeting. The high timber-framed windows, which are in very poor condition, will also be removed and replaced with new aluminium-framed windows. All brick blockwork, window frames and doors will also be painted as a part of the works. As can be seen in the attached photos, the builders have made a great start. It is hoped that this work will be completed in the next four to six weeks.

Additionally, we have had a new shade sail installed on the decking area outside the junior school classes and also a new sail put over the Prep/1 playground.
