Future Media Internet using content-centric networks architectures

Different approaches have been used in different areas: networks, services, content, etc.

In Content-centric architectures, the approach differ mainly in the orientation of the research:One is oriented to network research and services, mainly in the part

of the protocols for routing, addressing, transport, etc. to support and adapt the content (as a service).

The other is oriented to start from the content side, and try to adapt the network to support the content delivery.

A unified approach is needed to release a Content-centric network

New research on CCN architectures for Future Media Internet

The Future Internet should be able to handle, deliver and share “Media Internet” contents as native data.

Media Internet is at the crossroads of digital multimedia content and Internet technologies. It encompasses two main aspects:

• Media being delivered through Internet networking technologies (including hybrid technologies) and

• Media being generated, consumed, shared and experienced on the web.

The Media Internet is evolving to support immersive environments including sensorial experiences beyond video and audio (engaging all the human senses) that are adaptable to the user, the networks and the services.

New challenges for the Future Media Internet networks

real Content/service-centric network: content and user-centric, stressing the importance of the content and the user versus the service location or packet structure.approaches such as CCNx, DONA,

OpenCDN, Siena… can be an starting point to create a content-centric network

New challenges for the Future Media Internet networks (2)

Able to transport 3D multimodal media: The network will rely on 3D multimodal content and should provide mechanisms for signaling and describing multimodal 3D media (engaging all the human senses) components in immersive environments

New challenges for the Future Media Internet networks (3)

Integrate real scalable and self-adaptable mechanisms for heterogeneous devices

Real time for 3D immersive servicesNetwork content and user context-aware for adaptation and

personalisation: content aware-networks which can provide real-time adaptation and user context personalization of Future Media heterogeneous services (e.g. simple 3D IPTV, 3D (multimodal) telepresence, etc.).

User media tailored: able to capture and interact with the user social profiling, consumption and behaviour for producing real Future Internet services personalised and adapted to the user, as individual and in communities.

Possible solutions to be researched…

Going from the layered-approach towards a novel layer-less approach based on content components to form “Just-in time media objects”:

19/01/2010 Consultation workshop, 19th January 2010 7

• the media content component is a primary element of the network across network layers. • content components include low-level descriptor of the media component, name, behaviour, rules and role in the network, relationships to other components, etc. to be able to interact autonomously.

Conclusions

The Future Media Internet network should combine the characteristics mentioned to both network and content to produce a real “Content Centric Network” using new architectures

Networks and its architectures should support immersive environments including sensorial experiences beyond video and audio (engaging all the human senses) adaptable to the user, the networks and the services

Content-Centric Architectures based on Autonomous Content Components should be researched to enable new forms of using the content as primary objects.
