Umostart is a microgranule - 5gms contains 25000 granules compared to 200 granules in DAP, MAP, Maximaize etc The phosphate in Umostart is derived from MAP which confers excellent plant safety, allowing the product to be placed next to the seed. This encourages the early root growth and establishment that are essential for good maize crops. The micro granules allow phosphate to be absorbed in greater amounts by the plant in the first 60 days which is the critical period for good establishment. A comparison with other forms of fertiliser is shown below. Umostart has an acidifying effect on the soil; on high pH soils this reduces P lock-up and keeps Zn and other nutrients available to the plant. Umostart = faster root growth and establishment and allows for quicker drilling Even at a reduced application rate of 20 kg/ha compared to DAP at 125 kg/ha, Umostart helps promote stronger root and shoot growth during the crucial 60-90 day establishment phase. This is due to a combination of the micro granular formulation increasing phosphate availability, the acidifying effects and the zinc promoting strong early growth of roots and leaves. Recommended application rates Apply Umostart in a band with the seed at drilling: Low P soils apply 20-30 kg/ha High P soils apply 20 kg/ha %P ABSORPTION P2O absorbed from (in kg/ha): TSP: 150 SSP: 150 UMO S Zinc 30 TRIPLE SP SIMPLE SP UMO.S Zn 10 8.9 10.5 10.1 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 10.5 11 Nil DAP 125kg/ha Umostart Maximaize t/ha Maize Dry Yield t/ha MGA/NIAB/GRAINSEED replicated trial Gayton site 62.5 kg/ha 20 kg/ha [email protected]
