COACHING STAFFHead Coach, Bill BelichickPro Career: Bill Belichick is in his 38thseason as an NFL coach and is the onlyhead coach in NFL history to win threeSuper Bowl titles in a four-year span. Hehas won more regular-season games(123) and more games overall (136) dur-ing a 10-year stretch (2002-2011) thanany other head coach in NFL history overany decade. Belichick leads all activehead coaches and is currently ranked 9thon the NFL’s all-time list with 192 total vic-tories. Hired by Chairman and CEO RobertKraft on January 27, 2000, Belichick is inhis 13th season as New England’s headcoach. Through 12 seasons, Belichickhas delivered three Super Bowl champi-onships, five conference titles, nine divi-sion crowns and 16 playoff victories,while posting an overall record of 155-59.Belichick directed the Patriots to victoriesin Super Bowls XXXVI (2001), XXXVIII(2003) and XXXIX (2004), and in 2007 hebecame the first NFL head coach to guidehis team to a 16-0 regular season. Onlyone coach (Pittsburgh’s Chuck Noll, 4)has won more Super Bowls thanBelichick, and his three Super Bowl titlestie Washington’s Joe Gibbs and SanFrancisco’s Bill Walsh for second place onthe NFL’s all-time list. Belichick has led thePatriots to a winning record in each of thelast 11 seasons. The only other NFLcoach to have 10 consecutive winningseasons with one team since the 1970merger was Tom Landry, who led theDallas Cowboys to 16 consecutive win-ning seasons (1970-1985). In 2011,Belichick guided the Patriots to a 13-3record and his fifth AFC ConferenceChampionship. Belichick is the only headcoach in NFL history to win at least 13regular-season games in five separateseasons. Belichick’s Patriots teams ownthe all-time NFL records for consecutivevictories, including the postseason (21from 2003-04) and consecutive playoffvictories (10 from 2001-05). Belichick’s17 postseason wins are tied with JoeGibbs for third all-time, behind TomLandry (20) and Don Shula (19). Over a100-game span from 2003-08, he direct-ed the Patriots to an 82-18 record – thebest record for any 100-game span in NFLhistory. Belichick (.649) has the thirdhighest winning percentage amongcoaches with at least 150 wins, trailingonly Hall of Famers George Halas (.682)and Don Shula (.666). Belichick’s recentaccomplishments are the latest triumphsin a career during which he has helpedproduce five Super Bowl titles, eight con-ference championships and 16 divisiontitles since entering the NFL in 1975. Hewon his first two Super Bowls as thedefensive coordinator for the New YorkGiants in 1986 and 1990 before claimingthree Super Bowl championships with the

Patriots. George Seifert is the only otherman to have won multiple Super Bowlsboth as a head coach and as an assistantcoach. Belichick launched his coachingcareer in 1975 with the Baltimore Coltsand continued as an assistant coach withDetroit (1976-77), Denver (1978) and theNew York Giants (1979-1990). Belichickwas named head coach of the ClevelandBrowns in 1991, becoming the youngesthead coach in the NFL at age 38. By1994, Belichick brought the Browns backto the playoffs, finishing 11-5 andadvancing to the second round of theplayoffs, while allowing a league-low 204total points. In 1996, Belichick joined NewEngland and was a key contributor to thePatriots first division title in 10 years enroute to the Patriots’ appearance in SuperBowl XXXI. Belichick then spent three sea-sons with the New York Jets from 1997 to1999, helping New York improve from a1-15 season in 1996 to an appearance inthe AFC Championship Game in 1998.Career record: 192-104.Background: Belichick was a center/tightend at Wesleyan 1971-74.
