World Marriage Day - This Weekend
This weekend we celebrate World Marriage Day! The permanent theme for World Marriage Day is "Love One Another" from the commandment given us by Jesus in John chapter 14. This gospel gives us a simple but challenging message of how our Heavenly Father wishes us to live. Loving one another is a daily decision - simple, but challenging. Let’s take time to pray for all who are called to the vocation of the Sacrament of Marriage.
The Blessing of Candles –
Saturday, Feb. 2 – 8:30am Mass
On February 2nd, the Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord which occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus. The first reading for this day gives us an important insight to un-derstanding the Lord’s Presentation in the Temple by Mary and Joseph. Jesus’ presentation signifies God’s entrance to His temple. God made Man entered His temple, presenting Himself to those who were really searching for Him. At this Mass, all are invited to bring candles to be blessed that they will be using in their homes this year.
Saint Blaise and the Blessing of Throats –
Feb. 2/3 – All Weekend Masses
On Feb. 3 the Church celebrates St. Blaise. There are few facts known about St. Blaise except that he was a physician, fourth-century bishop in the city of Sebaste, Western Armenia, and died as a martyr. While he was a Bishop, a mother pleaded for St. Blaise to cure her son who was dying from a fish bone lodged in his throat. Blaise prayed over the boy, and the child was healed. The miraculous healing of the boy created the belief that St. Blaise could cure most illnesses but especially those of the throat. All are invited to participate in the blessing of throats following each of the weekend Masses on Feb. 2/3. During the traditional blessing of throats, the priest or deacon touches the candles (in the form of an X) to each side of the person’s neck and says: “Through the intercession of St. Blaise, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat, and from every other illness. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

St. Clair Catholic DSB Strategic Plan – An
Invitation to Participate! You Tell Us!
From January 9th to the 23rd the St. Clair Catholic District School Board will launch an on-line conversation about how we can work together to build Cath-olic education and help our students pre-pare for the future. It’s called Thoughtexchange, a broad con-sultation with all of our stakeholders, where we can share and learn from each other.
Thoughtexchange has three steps:
Share – first people share thoughts independently and con-fidentially;
Star – everyone then considers and rates thoughts shared by others;
Discover – and finally, everyone learns the ideas we have in common and what we value as a community.
The information we learn through Thoughtexchange will help us to develop a new strategic plan, to guide student learning
for the next five years. We invite you to have your say – you tell us! Join the conversation between January 9th and the 23rd.

January 2019 St. Michael Catholic Women's League
Happy New Year! On behalf of the executive council, I would like to wish all our members and parishioners a most happy
and blessed 2019. The St. Michael Catholic Women's League is looking forward to a year filled with opportunities to share
our talents and skills with others; praying; working and learning together; and having a lot of fun along the way.
CWL Membership - Thank you again to all those who have renewed their memberships for 2019 and to those who have joined our council
for the first time. Welcome to all. There is still room in the St. Michael Catholic Women's League for more members! We are always happy
to have women of all ages join us. Use the envelope in your Sunday envelope box, ask for an envelope at the Welcome Desk or place your
membership fee of $25 in an envelope with your name, address, email address and place it in the basket at offertory or leave it at the Office.
Please contact President Nelly Kelders or Organization/Membership Convenor Mary Van Delft if you have any questions regarding mem-
bership.
St. Michael's CWL Council 2019
We have a vacancy for Christian Family Life/Community Life. Any member who is interested in becoming more involved in our council
may want to consider this position. To learn more about this convenorship and its responsibilities, contact Mary McLeay, past-president.
February General Meeting - Our first general meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 12 at 2pm, in St. Michael Church. Not only
is it our first meeting, it is also our Valentine Tea! We will begin with prayers and then a presentation by our guest speaker, Deacon Tony
Hogervorst, from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Watford. His presentation will be on the migrant workers in our community. As the
Migrant Worker Ministry Specialist with the Diocese of London, Deacon Tony is very knowledgeable in this area and has hands-on experi-
ence working with these people who have chosen to come to Canada to seek work. All members of our parish and community are invited to
join us to learn more about this ministry and the people it serves.
Following a tea break, we will have our business meeting. The most important item on the agenda will be our annual budget. We promise to
keep the meeting as brief as possible but at the same time make sure members receive all the necessary information regarding the business
of the Council and League.
Regional Meeting - The first regional meeting of 2019 takes place on Tuesday, January 22, at 6pm at Our Lady of Mercy Church Hall. This
is a potluck dinner and all ladies in the deanery are invited to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet women from the other councils
in Sarnia and Lambton County, as well as to learn more about the business of the Catholic Women's League. If you would like to join us,
please contact Nelly Kelders.
Volunteers Needed - Have you heard about the new Netflix show Tidying Up? We have! If you have the time, join us on Monday, January
21 at 9:30am to clean up the kitchen. Tidying Up means clearing out anything that is not used, broken or has lived beyond its expiry date!
We will be re-organizing things to maximize the space we have. It seems that storage space is always at a premium!
If you have any questions or concerns about the St. Michael CWL or its activities, please do not hesitate to contact me.
May God always keep you in the palm of His hand.
