From the EditorMarch Madness

It’s that funny time of year, that kind of inbetween when the weather can change from onemoment to the next. Time to get the cobwebs out, dust off the car and and take it out for a spin!! It’s actually one of my favorite times of theyear and I was able to get my car out for a quicklittle 30 mile spin. I had to put the Tranny tunneland the drivers seat back in, but I did get it out!!!! I did my due diligence though and followedthe checklist that is in this newsletter before Istarted it up. Two squirts of starting fluid and aprimed fuel pump were all that was needed to get itgoing....gotta love the Triumphs!!! I’m looking forward to the nicer weatherand the occasions to drive the car as much as I can. Now I need a little help...I would like toknow some of your favorite driving roads. Youknow the scenic ones or the fun ones maybe a littlestory about what you like about it. You can emailthe roads that you really like to drive and I willshare them with the members. Any pictures wouldbe great as well

This is a new section and a very quick list, please send me your suggestions and I am sure the list willgrow. Also I will start to categorize them as the list grows Please send me your suggestions at[email protected]Please Note: These links are provided for reference only

The Club events and car shows in generalare coming up really soon and these are a real lowcost fun way to get to meet people who like carsjust as much as you do!! In this economy this is re-ally a blessing.

One event that I am really looking forwardis the Club Anniversary Party, it was well plannedout and it looks like it is going to be an event not tobe missed.

Triumphantly YoursJoe Ientile[email protected]

The glorious sunshine and exceptional calibre of racingstars brought motorsport enthusiasts out in their thou-sands to visit Race Retro 2009 at Stoneleigh Park. Defyingthe credit crunch, audience numbers rose over ten percent with around 24,500 visitors enjoying rally legendsRussell Brookes, Mark Higgins and Rauno Aaltonen inaction on the live Rally Stage.

Thousands gathered to see Rauno reunited with his

original 1964 Monte Carlo Rally Mini Cooper S before

joining Mark Higgins in the 2008 Aston Martin GT V8 Rally

car. Russell Brookes put the Andrews ‘Heat for Hire’ cars

through their paces while the drivers of Slowly Sideways

GB showcased their skills in Porsches, Austin Healeys,

Opels and Sunbeams.

Now owned by Live Promotions, Race Retro also featured

appearances for Paddy Hopkirk, Barry Whizzo Williams,

Rosemary Smith and Tony Mason on the interview stage

where the most versatile man in motorsport Steve Parrish

held court. Steve was joined by motorcycling racers Mick

Grant and Guy Martin as well as playing quiz master for

the Question of Motorsport.

Colin Ward, Managing Director of Live Promotions, said:

“We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend with the

weather and the increased visitor numbers. As new

owners, the most important aspect of the show for us

was to encourage a younger audience into Race Retro

and historic motorsport, and it was great to see so many

families and youngsters at the show over the weekend.”

And it wasn’t just the box office booming as the H&H

Classic Auction also proved successful with over £990,000

worth of sales. A 1954 Arnolt Bristol Bolide was sold for

£115,500 while a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT was brought

for £77,000. Although the 24 carat gold painted Aston

Martin proved too rich for most, a fully inscribed Silver

cup from the Dutch TT, Assen, awarded to Mike Hale-

wood for his 1st Place victory in the 350cc Race of 1966

secured a price of £13,500.

iting should contact Rob Tefler or Steve Dallimore on
