Assigned lectors should be in the sacristy as early as possible (before 5PM): a.) 4:45 pm (for weekdays); b.) 4:30 pm (for Saturdays and Sundays). Note: An allowance of 15-20 minutes will be given for preparation purposes and 30 minutes for disposition. 2. Observe the following: a. Dress code: - White t-shirt (preferably plain) - Dark slacks (preferably your school slacks) and/or dark jeans - Black socks - Black leather shoes (preferably your school shoes) b. Grooming: - All accessories should be removed (e.g. bracelets, earrings, necklace, watch, ring) - Hair must be short and clean (for male) - No hair colors and outrageous hairstyles - Mustache must be shaved (for male) - No make up (for female) - Hair must be fixed – Nursing Style (for female) - Nails must be short and clean and nail polish is not allowed AN IMPORTANT TIP: A servant of Christ shows simplicity and dignity when serving the Holy Mass. 3. Failure to comply dress code and grooming will be subjected for replacement. 4. After having complied the above mentioned guidelines, pray the following: - Prayer before Serving - Prayer before Wearing the Soutane

LECTOR MINISTRY GUIDELINESRevised SY 2013 – 2014

I. GUIDELINES BEFORE THE MASS

1. Assigned lectors should be in the sacristy as early as possible (before 5PM): a.) 4:45 pm (for weekdays); b.) 4:30 pm (for Saturdays and Sundays).

And then start wearing your soutane.Note: These should be done within the preparation period (the time allotted for preparation purposes).

5. After preparations, proceed to the Minister’s waiting area and observe a reflective and prayerful disposition before the Mass. Going outside the sacristy is strongly discouraged and unnecessary talking must be avoided. (OBSERVE 5 PM HABIT)

6. Chapel Custodians, Liturgy Coordinator, and/or the ministry heads will notify the servers and/or lectors in case of changes.

7. Servers: at 5:20 pm, altar candles should be lit and all necessary liturgical paraphernalia (e.g. Missal, Lectionary, etc.) to be used for the Mass should be placed at the Altar.

8. Lectors: at 5:25 pm, read the intentions before the Mass (envelope). After reading, place it at the Altar table.

9. Mass starts at 5:30 pm. SERVERS will take charge in leading the liturgical procession.

II. GUIDELINES AFTER THE MASS

1. After the Mass, pray silently the Prayer after Serving and return all materials used to their proper places.

2. Proceed immediately to the choir box for announcements or reminders.

A. GUIDELINES FOR LECTORS

1. Once assigned, start ahead of time practicing, familiarizing, and internalizing the Scripture text. A better preparation leads to a better proclamation of the passage.

2. If you have concerns regarding the readings or other matters, you may ask assistance from the Lector Ministry head or his/her deputy, or the Liturgy Coordinator. Note: The Lector Ministry Head, the Assistant, or the Liturgy Coordinator will see to it that assigned lectors will be able to properly proclaim the passage before the Mass.

3. FOLLOW GUIDELINES BEFORE THE MASS. 4. Lector 1 takes charge in proclaiming the First Scripture Reading, and in the absence of a can -

tor, he/she will also read the Responsorial Psalm and the General Intercessions during week-days.

5. Lector 2 takes charge in proclaiming the Second Scripture Reading and the General Interces-sions (for Sundays and Solemnities).

6. After reading and before exiting the Altar, wait for the priest to proclaim the Gospel.

B. GUIDELINES FOR COMMENTATOR

1. On First Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and other special Masses, assigned commentator will wear the soutane and stays at the podium during the mass. In such case, follow the SERV-ING AND LECTOR MINISTRY GUIDELINES BEFORE THE MASS.Note: When there are not enough choir members, the commentator stays at the choir box.

2. It is the responsibility of the commentator to look for the Commentator’s Guide and get ac-quainted to the responses. If there are any concerns, ask assistance from the Lector Ministry Head, or in his/her absence, the Assistant, or the Liturgy Coordinator.

3. Secure copies for the responsorial psalm (if not sung), response to the General Intercessions, and any announcements before the Mass. Commentator should comply the task not later than 5:00 P.M.

4. After the Mass, return the guide to its proper place inside the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Liturgical Room.
