Thank you for your contributions to our Sunday Offertory and your continued generosity to provide monetary support to individuals and families in need through our Charity and Food Shelf Funds. We are grateful to those of you who have answered the call to pro-vide gift cards for gas and food that we are able to distrib-ute to those in need.

Online giving is a convenient, safe and secure method to financially support the ministries of St. Odilia and our extended community. Planning for Public Masses to Resume at St. Odilia On May 20, 2020, the Catholic Bishops of Minnesota com-municated that churches in the archdiocese will be allowed to open for public Masses beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2020. The full letter from the Bishops can be found on the parish website. Parishes will be required to follow the strict protocols that have been established by the Archdiocese for sanitation and social distancing and will have to limit attendance to one-third of the seating capacity of the church. No one is obligated to attend, and the bishops have continued the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. Masks for those in attendance will be required. We are currently in the process of preparing the plan to resume the public celebration of Mass at St. Odilia and more information will be shared as the plan is finalized. We will announce our public Mass schedule at that time. For now, Sunday Mass on May 24 will continue to be offered via livestream at 9:00am in English and 11:00am in Spanish.

When we are able to resume limited public Mass, we will continue to livestream one Mass in English and one Mass in Spanish for those people who are unable to attend Mass due to seating limitations, health concerns, or personal choice. We ask for your prayers and patience as we develop a plan that will allow us to safely return to the public celebration of our daily and Sunday Mass. We will be developing new procedures for the celebration of the Mass and reception of the Eucharist. In addition, we will need to limit attend-ance and will be developing a process to do so. This is the only way we can manage the numbers and safety. More information on signup and detailed guidelines are forth-coming. Those who are 65 and older and/or who have underlying health conditions are strongly encouraged to take part in our livestreamed Mass and participate in spiritual communion. Please note that Archbishop Hebda has continued his suspension of the Sunday obligation for all Catholics at this time. Please stay tuned for further communication of our plans.

Join the Parish Leadership Council or any of our Nine Ministry Area Councils

In gratitude for the gifts you have been given, consider serv-ant leadership as a member of one of our St. Odilia Ministry Area Councils. The organizational structure of the council is based on a strong lay-leadership component that recognizes the gifts that our parishioners bring to our community. Consensus decision-making is supported by participation in open and respectful dialogue at all levels of leadership. The principle of subsidiarity is incorporated into the nine Minis-try Area Councils and the overarching Parish Leadership Council (PLC) that functions in partnership with staff to de-velop policies and programming that support the parish mis-sion.

At the heart of the structure is the process of collaboration between and among the Ministry Area Councils and the PLC. The PLC is the leadership group that coordinates and re-views the activities of the nine Ministry Area Councils and is responsible for policies and procedures of a parish-wide scope. A representative of each MAC is appointed to serve as a member of the PLC. This process is supported by the design and intentionality of the monthly meeting format that incorporates both prayer and sharing of ideas prior to the council meetings.

2020-2021 Open Council Positions Our normal process to discern new members in May has been delayed due to our limitations to gather in person. Although we can’t be together physically, we invite you to consider a leadership position for yourself, or for a fellow parishioner.

At this time, we are specifically seeking nominations for the role of PLC-At-Large Representative. The PLC-At-Large Rep serves on both the PLC Executive Committee with the pas-tor, administrator and trustees and is a member of the Par-ish Leadership Council (PLC) for a three-year term, serving as the chair of the PLC in the third year of the term. You can express your interest, or nominate someone by completing the council nomination form on our parish website:

www.stodilia.org > Our Parish > Ministry Area Councils > Council Nominations and select ‘Parish Leadership Council (At-Large-Representative)’ as the choice.

Nominate yourself or someone you recommend for Parish Leadership. Nominations for the role of PLC-At-Large Rep will be accepted through June 30, 2020. We plan to begin the process of discernment for our nine (9) Ministry Area Councils later this summer when we anticipate that we will be able to gather again. We look forward to hearing from you!

Faith Formation

The Novena to the Holy Spirit for Pentecost Novenas are an ancient tradition that goes back to the days of the Apostles. Jesus told His disciples to pray together after His ascension into heaven, so they went to an upper room along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, (Acts 1:14) and joined constantly in prayer for nine days. These nine days of constant prayer by the Apostles at the direction of Jesus led up to Pentecost. This is when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples as “tongues of fire” (Acts 2:1-4). This pattern of 9 days of prayer is the basis of the novenas we pray today! Thus, the novena is an imitation of the Lord’s command to the Apostles when they prayed for nine days in anticipation of the coming of the Holy Spirit. And that's why we pray all of our novenas for nine days, followed by one final prayer on the 10th day (which is usually the feast day).

The Holy Spirit plays a BIG part in our lives! So, as we pray, ask the Holy Spirit for something con-crete and measurable. We will start praying on Friday, May 22nd. To sign up and receive this novena, go to: PrayMoreNovenas.com

Message from Fr. Rask

Welcome to our Director of Discipleship and Formation We are pleased to share the announcement that Jill Fink has joined our staff team in the role of Director of Discipleship and Formation. This position combines the prior leadership positions of Director of Adult Formation and Director of Youth Formation into a single leadership role for our Faith Formation team. Many of you are familiar with Jill as she served in the role of Elementary Coordinator in our Faith Formation ministry from 2008 – 2013. As she returns to St. Odilia, Jill brings an additional 7 years of experience as the Director of Faith Formation at The Church of The Epiphany. Her experience leading formation initiatives for seekers and disciples of all ages in a large parish setting will enable us to cast a vision and establish strategies to accomplish our parish mission to welcome all and provide opportunities for every person to grow in holiness and draw closer to Jesus Christ – every day and at every stage of life. Please join us in welcoming Jill back "home" to St. Odilia! Jill shares the following message with you:

“I am very excited to be returning to St. Odilia Catholic Community to serve in the role as your Director of Discipleship and Formation. This feels like a welcoming home as St. Odilia has long been a part of my life; my three children educated at the school (K-8), my husband David on the school staff and I worked in ministry here seven years ago for seven years in the Family Faith program. I’m looking forward to renewing friend-ships and forming new relationships with all in this thriving faith community. I bring my education experience of a Bachelor’s degree from Franciscan University and Master’s degree from the University of Dallas along with eighteen years of full time ministry experience. I’m honored to be welcomed into a shared ministry position. I believe there is no greater joy than to journey with others in their discipleship of Jesus Christ within the Catholic Church. Ministry is a privileged and sacred position that I’m honored to be invited into. I look forward to serving all of you in your path of discipleship, especially in the direct areas of adult formation and sacramental preparation/celebration of Baptism, RCIC and RCIA programs. May we work together in knowing, loving and serving our good and gracious God, advancing the Kingdom of God together.”

Prayerfully Support Those Who Are Suffering as a Result of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Parishioners across the Archdiocese are invited to prayerfully support those who are suffering most intensely, usually in sterile isolation, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Text: archspm-anointing to 55321 or sign up at archspm.org/covid19/covid19prayers to receive a text each time a COVID-19 Anointing Corps Priest is dispatched to give the Last Rites.

Upon receipt of the text, those in this minis-try commit to take a moment to pray: One Our Father for the patient who is in danger of death, as they prepare to meet our Heavenly Father face-to-face; One Hail Mary for the patient’s family and friends, asking the Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Sorrows, to intercede to comfort them; One Glory Be in thanksgiving for the priest and for his protection, as well as the medical team attending to the patient.

Pictured: Fr. Gjengdahl, being trained to serve as one of the COVID-19 Anointing Corps Priests. God bless you Fr. Gjengdahl!

Your Donations of Gift Cards are Greatly Appreciated!

A humble and gracious THANK YOU to all of you who have responded to the needs of so many of our parishioners and community members. You have been so generous in helping replenish the gift cards which we collect in Advent via the Sharing Tree. For the last 10 years our Sharing Tree gift cards would last us through to the next Advent. This year we depleted our supply of gift cards to almost nothing by the end of April. And a few of you have even given part, or in some cases, all of your stimulus money to either the Charity Fund, the Food Shelf Fund or to the Sunday Fund to allow us to continue our ministry support! The need is still great for many so any help continues to be greatly appreciated. We especially appreciate your continued prayers for each other as we journey through these challenging times. Again, THANK YOU for all that you do for each other, for your families, for your community and for St. Odilia Church.

Message from Fr. Rask Dear St. Odilia families and friends, I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Vicki Marvin will be the new principal of St. Odilia School effective July 1, 2020. After a thorough search process, it was clear that Mrs. Marvin has the experience and talent necessary to assume this important leadership position. We are confident that she will be a great fit for the St. Odilia community.

Mrs. Marvin has over 26 years of experience in Catholic Education and is currently the principal at St. Dominic Catholic School in Northfield, MN – a position that she has held for 14 years. Prior that, she served as principal of Holy Cross Catholic School in Webster, MN and has teaching experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. Mrs. Marvin holds a BA in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Benedict, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Mary’s University in Winona and an Education Specialist Degree (Ed. S.) from Minnesota State University in Mankato along with a K-12 Principal's License. Mrs. Marvin will bring a wealth of knowledge, skill and experience to St. Odilia School. Her commitment to Catholic education is evident in her collaborative and positive relationships with staff, students and parents. Together with Mrs. Nikki Giel as assistant principal, I believe we will continue to maintain the highly talented administration team that you deserve as St. Odilia School continues to move forward with confidence in these uncertain times. Our community has been blessed to have Mr. Brian Ragatz at its helm for these past seven years and we look forward to Brian’s continued engagement as a valued member of our parent community. Please join me in thanking and congratu-lating Brian on his new role as President of the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence (CSCOE). We look forward to our ongoing partnership with CSCOE. Brian shares that he has known Mrs. Marvin for the past 13 years and that she has consistently demonstrated authentic care for her students, staff and families. He describes her as a visionary leader who has the ability to connect with everyone she meets and to approach decision-making with grace and confidence. I am grateful for your support of our school and I look forward to working together as Mrs. Marvin leads us into the next chapter of our story at St. Odilia School. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Marvin to our community! In Christ, Fr. Phillip J. Rask, Pastor
