    Dissent and Aggression

(I have plagiarized about half of the following from a letter byRalph R. Reiland, published in the September 2006 issue ofLiberty).

I have been following various LP related forums for sometime now and letters published in various LP relatedpublications, and I find that a vast number of postings to theforums and many of those in the publications are of thenature of attacking one another because of each otherspositions. Someone attacks someone else for his or herviews, and then another attacks that person for attacking thefirst person. While I may agree or disagree with either of thepositions involved, I cannot agree with either of the parties intheir attacking and trying to demean or belittle each other.

We need to take to heart the quote from Voltaire (upper rightcorner of this page). If you disagree with someone elsesviews, then address that disagreement. Talk against thoseviews, not the person. Eliminate the emotion, and give

logical reasons, supported with facts, to back up why youdisagree with those views. But do not attack the person. And do not attack someone who has disagreed withsomeone elses views. Again, address your disagreementwith what that person has stated.

We seem not to have learned, after years of preaching it,that censorship is far more dangerous than free speech; thatwere more likely to find the truth through freedom ofexpression and open-mindedness, through free inquiry andan uncensored exchange of ideas, than through thesuppression of ideas and the repression of free speech.

The idea that people should be silenced so that they wont beable to say anything that might be offensive to someone

else, the concept that the individual must submit to a group-think orthodoxy, the idea that the individual must submit towhats best for everyone else, for the collective, representdirect strikes at the heart of American democracy andindividual liberty.

Nineteenth-century British social reformer Charles Bradlaughwrote, Without free speech no search for truth is possible.Better a thousandfold abuse of free speech than denial offree speech. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slaysthe life of the people.

    LP Platform Undergoes Major Change

There were major changes to the LP National Platform passedat the Convention in July. Mainly, it eliminated the majority ofthe planks. I envision a flurry of efforts between now and thenext LP Convention in 2008 to reinstitute as many of the planksas possible.

Lets take a look at the second of the remaining planks fromour LP National Platform.

    I.2 Freedom of Communication

The Issue We oppose any abridgment of the freedom ofspeech through government censorship, regulation or control ofcommunications media, including, but not limited

New Mexico Liberty September 2006 Page 3

    to, laws concerning:

    a) Obscenity, including "pornography", as we hold this to bean abridgment of liberty of expression despite claims that itinstigates rape or assault, or demeans and slanders women;

    b) Reception and storage equipment, such as digital audiotape recorders and radar warning devices, and themanufacture of video terminals by telephone companies;

    c) Electronic bulletin boards, communications networks, andother interactive electronic media as we hold them to be thefunctional equivalent of speaking halls and printing presses inthe age of electronic communications, and as such deservingof full freedom;

    d) Electronic newspapers, electronic "Yellow Pages", filelibraries, websites, and other new information media, asthese deserve full freedom; or

    e) Commercial speech or advertising. We oppose speechcodes at all schools that are primarily tax funded. Language

that is deemed offensive to certain groups is not a cause forlegal action.

We strongly oppose the government's burgeoning practice ofinvading newsrooms, or the premises of other innocent thirdparties, in the name of law enforcement. We further opposecourt orders gagging news coverage of criminal proceedings

the right to publish and broadcast must not be abridgedmerely for the convenience of the judicial system. Wedeplore any efforts to impose thought control on the mediaeither by the use of anti-trust laws, or by any othergovernment action in the name of stopping "bias."

The Principle We defend the rights of individuals tounrestricted freedom of speech, freedom of the press and theright of individuals to dissent from government itself. Werecognize that full freedom of expression is possible only aspart of a system of full property rights. The freedom to useone's own voice; the freedom to hire a hall; the freedom toown a printing press, a broadcasting station, or atransmission cable; the freedom to host and publishinformation on the Internet; the freedom to wave or burnone's own flag; and similar property-based freedoms areprecisely what constitute freedom of communication. At thesame time, we recognize that freedom of communicationdoes not extend to the use of other people's property topromote one's ideas without the voluntary consent of theowners.

Solutions We would provide for free market ownership ofairwave frequencies, deserving of full First Amendmentprotection. We oppose government ownership or subsidy of,or funding for, any communications organization. Removal ofall of these regulations and practices throughout thecommunications media would open the way to diversity andinnovation. We shall not be satisfied until the FirstAmendment is expanded to protect full, unconditionafreedom of communication.

Transitional Action We advocate the abolition of theFederal Communications Commission.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend tothe death your right to say it.Voltaire

The Tax Man and the Moving Van

Despite Growing Popularity as Relocation Destination, CensusData Show New Mexico Has Seen Net Outflow of Native-Born

Residents States Poor Tax Climate to Blameby Paul Gessing [ [email protected] ]

(Albuquerque, New Mexico) The Albuquerque Journal recently

publicized Census data indicating that New Mexico is becomingan increasingly popular destination for people to move to fromother states. According to the August 17 article, about 4.1percent of New Mexicans moved here from another state withinthe last year which puts New Mexico at No. 9 in the nation forthe percentage of its residents who had moved from anotherstate within the previous year.

However, the data provide only a limited picture of migrationpatterns. They do not show, for example, whether the state issuffering net losses of migrants or whether young, educatedpeople are moving to the state or if in-migrants are primarilyretirees.

To answer some of these questions using recent economichistory, the Rio Grande Foundation studied Census data from

1995-2000 to determine who was coming and going to and fromNew Mexico and whether it was economic policies, climate, orsome other factors that spurred migrations. We also studied thefactors that determined New Mexicos relative attractiveness tomigrants from other states.

As Matthew Ladner, Vice President of Research for theGoldwater Institute, and Paul Gessing, President of the RioGrande Foundation find in their new study, The Tax Man andthe Moving Van, New Mexico suffered a net loss of citizens toother states during the late 1990s, not to mention, a greater netloss of young, single, college educated people than any otherwestern state (defined as Rocky Mountains or further west). Theprimary culprit was the States poor tax climate.

While Americans flocked south and west during the late 1990s,

they generally flocked to places other than New Mexico. Forexample, Colorados Constitutional tax limitation called theTaxpayers Bill of Rights strictly limited government spendingand taxation, thus making it one of the most popular states formigrants. Colorado, like the rest of New Mexicos neighbors, gained migrants during this time period while New Mexico lostsignificant numbers.

This study empirically illustrates that New Mexico cannot rely onits favorable weather as a relocation selling point. And, whilerecent income tax cuts may have improved the states taxclimate somewhat, other tax and fee increases may have offsetthose benefits. In the absence of new data, it is hard to tell theout-migration, particularly of young, single, and educatedcitizens, is continuing.

Rather than waiting for the next round of Census data to comeout, New Mexicos elected leaders should consider ways tofurther improve the states tax climate by using plentiful revenueto further reduce income tax rates and/or adopt strongConstitutional protections for taxpayers similar to Colorados.

kakistocracy: Noun. Inflected forms: pl. kakistocraciesGovernment by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens.

In what can only be serendipity, I have finally found the perfectdescription of our government; all but the most rabid Bushiteswould recognize both "least qualified" and "unprincipled" in ouradministration. Where crony is a job prerequisite and blind

allegiance always trumps knowledge, the current residents ofWashington are a case study in reverse evolution where theweak prey upon the strong.

We citizens are strong, aren't we? We do still possess thepioneer spirit and free will of our forefathers, don't we? We stillretain the ability to see through the Ponzi schemes and riseabove the smoke and mirrors, no? We're not so blinded by crassconsumerism and seductive commercialism that we would tradeour freedoms for the appearance of safety, are we?

One of the advantages of roaming this Earth for as many yearsas I have is that it has afforded me the opportunity to meet andtalk to many people; people of various ethnicities, socio-economic and religious backgrounds and the vast majority of

these folks are intelligent, thoughtful people . . . not gullible orfoolish enough to follow the lemmings over the cliff. So why arewe led by the least qualified, the unprincipled; why are they theonly ones who seem to be up for election?

It has been said that we have exactly the kind of governmentthat we deserve; that if we insist on spending our time glued toAmerican Idol instead of researching political platforms, we wilcontinue to be lead by morons and profiteers and we will haveonly ourselves to blame.

It can be very trying to sift through all the information required tomake informed decisions; and sitting though local party debatescan induce a mother of a headache the only other optionwould have us depend on the mainstream media and talkingheads ... who rarely if ever mention anyone other than the two

major parties or the fact that "None of the Above" is an option.

It's high time we kick the crooks to the curb.

    Special to The Libertarian Enterprise

Prepared for the Libertarian PartyOf Larimer County (Colorado)

    Monday evening, August 21, 2006

Ladies and gentlemen, honesty compels me to admit, right atthe beginning of this presentation, that the title "One Dollar Gas"is misleading.

The fact is, under the "system" of unfettered individual liberty

that we all advocate, and to which many of us have dedicatedtheir lives, the price of gasoline should be considerably lowerthan a dollar a gallon. The exciting news is that, if libertariansmake this clear to voters who are increasingly outraged at thecurrent price of gasoline, it could represent a new beginning forthe Libertarian Party.

When people ask you how one dollar gas is possible, begin withthe easy and familiar. There are special excise taxes on fuel thatdo not apply to other commodities: 18.4 cents per gallon federal,40.4 cents per gallon here in the state of Colorado, an averageof 2 cents per gallon at the local level, for an approximate totalof 61 cents per gallon. The first, most obvious thing to be doneabout this mess is to remove these taxes from the price of gas. There should have been some sort of emergency trigger toaccomplish this automatically a long time ago.

However to work properly, to get the price of gas down to adollar a gallon or less you have to go further than the price atthe pump. At the beginning of the Ed Clark campaign in 1979,his handlers floated a trial balloon involving the removal of alltaxes from every stage of the production, processing, transportation, distribution, and sale of food, figuring that no onewho claimed to be humanitarian liberal or conservative couldsay a word against it. Someone must have said something, because the finger-in-the-wind boys soon dropped the idea likea hot potato and that was the last that anyone heard of it.

Too bad, because it was a great idea.

A libertarian gas program must encompass the entire chain offuel production, from the bottom of the well to the tip of thenozzle. A libertarian president could declare a state ofemergency to accomplish that, and then "jawbone" otherjurisdictions into following suit. If our enemies didn't care for thatuse of presidential emergency powers, they could passlegislation to revoke them and libertarians would win, anyway.

There are those who may accuse us of favoring the specialinterest of the gas companies. So I would go even further, removing all taxes from all the necessities of life, including food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and self-defense. Add de-taxinganything protected by the Bill of Rights, you have a splendidprogram for the LP or anybody else.

One of my earliest speeches to libertarian groups described aneight-fold multiplier that will manifest itself in the absence ofgovernment interference with the lives of individuals. New Mexico Liberty September 2006 Page 6

On average, each of us pays out half of his or her income to onegovernment or another. Remove those taxes, and it wilimmediately double your real wealth. You'll have twice as muchmoney to spend, on anything you like.

And in terms of purchasing power, the relative price (not theabsolute price we'll get to that) of gasoline drops from $3.00 to$1.50.

Before we even get to special excise taxes, the people whoprovide the goods and services we rely on pay out half theirincome to the government, as well only they don't pay it, of

course, we do. Get rid of their taxes, and the price of goods andservices including gasoline gets halved again, and, in termsof purchasing power, in terms of real wealth, we're noweffectively paying a mere 75 cents a gallon.

But, as Ron Popeil always tells us, there's more! I had longestimated and writers like Dixy Lee Ray later confirmed thatthe cost of complying with government regulations doubles theprice of goods and services. Without those regulations andthose who force compliance with them, the price of everythingwe buy would get halved again.

And now gas is costing us 37 1/2 cents per gallon.

"Q" as the saying goes, "ED".

For those who won't listen to that argument, I have another.

    Thermal deploymerization.

Thermal deploymerization is a relatively new method by whichevery possible kind of garbage, from the results of turkeyprocessing, to mountains of cast-off tires, to old computecabinets, can be turned into "artificial" gasoline at an ultimatecost of just eight dollars a barrel.

The only trouble with this technology is that it gores just aboutevery ox presently blundering around our sorry political andeconomic landscape. The current fuel crisis isn't really so muchabout oil there's plenty of that, and it will never run out, asyou'll see in a moment it's about what sources of oil we'll beallowed to use by our political and corporate masters, asopposed to new sources they desperately want to shut down assoon and as completely as possible. There's no profit for George

Bush and his petropals in recycling old tires.

That's almost certainly why the first thermal deploymerizationplant built to full-scale and located in Carthage, Missouri, rightnext to the Butterball Turkey plant was found to have 5000defective welds in its maze of piping before it could beginoperation. It's almost certainly why the Butterball plant suddenlyraised the price of its garbage so that the cost of converting itwould be prohibitive. And it's almost certainly why the governoof Missouri ordered the thermal depolymerization plant shudown, claiming it was "too smelly".

Ever smell a turkey processing plant?

Some friends of mine, online, attempting to estimate a per-gallon cost of gas from this source discovered that the per-barre

price of oil has never been as low as eight dollars theestimated cost of oil made by the company performing thethermal depolymerization. It was at least double that amountwhen I started college, cigarettes cost 35 cents, and gas was 23cents a gallon. Thermal depolymerization means that Americanscan have all the fuel they want, and watch the landfills graduallydisappear. And in an age where automotive exhaust consists ofvery little besides carbon dioxide (very good for the plant life)and water (very ditto), any environmentalist who fails to endorsethis new technology enthusiastically is a bald-faced lyinghypocrite.

    7/12

But, if you can't get people to share in the hope of cheap energyfrom garbage, you can tell them about a fantastic discovery thatwas actually made several decades ago, one with demonstratedpredictive qualities, but which is only now becoming a matter ofgeneral public knowledge: renewal from deep below, of oilreserves long thought to be depleted.

Understand, to begin with, that most petroleum perhaps evenall of it has a non-biological origin. It's not made of deaddinosaurs, or of dead plants. It was made it is still being made by the same processes from which the Earth arose from dustand gas condensed by their mutual gravitic attraction. Water, methane, and a few other substances, subjected to highpressure and temperature, become raw petroleum.

The fact was predicted by astronomer Fred Hoyle in the 1950s,used by the Russians who went from oil importers to the thirdlargest oil producer on the planet. It was explained and exploredby Thomas Gold, author of The Hot, Deep Biosphere, and wordwas spread by George Crispin.

    Crispin provides a typical example:

"Eugene Island is an underwater mountain located about 80miles off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1973 oilwas struck and off-shore platform Eugene 330 erected. The fieldbegan production at 15,000 barrels a day, then gradually fell off,as is normal, to 4,000 barrels a day in 1989, Then came the

surprise; it reversed itself and increased production to 13,000barrels a day. Probable reserves have been increased to 400million barrels from 60 million. The field appears to be fillingfrom below and the crude coming up today is from a geologicalage different from the original crude, which leads to thespeculation that the world has limitless supplies of petroleum. . .

"Similar occurrences have been seen at other Gulf Of Mexicofields, at the Cook Inlet oil field, at oil fields in Uzbekistan, and itis possible this accounts for the longevity of the Saudi Arabianfields where few new finds have been made, yet reserves havedoubled while the fields have been exploited mercilessly for 50years."

None of this should be very surprising. There have been clues tothe non-biological origin of petroleum scattered along the wayfor at least a couple of hundred years. The composition of theouter planets the so-called "gas giants" should have been adead giveaway. Their atmospheres contain all the ingredients, and some astronomers have even speculated that perhaps itrains petroleum on Jupiter and Saturn.

Interstellar space is full of methane clouds and I, among others, have suggested the possibilty of life evolving there, without aplanet.

Three quarters of the asteroids in the Asteroid Belt possesswater and a substance called "kerogen" the same black goldfound in oil shale.

The price of gasoline at the pump has risen to a point that is notonly absurd, it's obscene. People are starting to look longingly atlittle Eurotrashmobiles again, instead of the SUVs and trucks

they truly love: it's going to be costly this winter to stay warmenough to live.

Make no mistake: this situation is the direct responsibility of thatcollection of criminals and cretins we refer to as the BushAdministration although it's important to understand, and evenmore important to convey to the public, that the Democratswould have done just as badly as the Republicans if they'd onlyhad the cojones. In a fairly strange inversion of the historicrelationship between Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, there is no offense against individual liberty and the Bill of Rightsthat George W. Bush has committed that Bill Clinton didn'tattempt during his own misbegotten term.

New Mexico Liberty September 2006 Page 7

The task before us now is to put both wings of the "Boot OnYour Neck" party out of our misery. Gas prices could be theweapon to do it with.

Just tell them, "One Dollar Gas Vote Libertarian".

But tell them loud and tell them often.

Speaking for myself, while I like Stanhope's style and attitude, atpresent I'm supporting None Of The Above, as I'm of theopinion that the presidential campaign is a waste of money(rather, FRNs) that could be better spent on local races for

example, State Representative, State Senator, CountyCommission, City Council, Magistrate Judge.

The basis for libertarian thought is the Zero Aggression Principle

A libertarian is someone who believes that no humanbeing has the right under any circumstances toinitiate force against another human being, nor tothreaten, incite or delegate its initiation.

New Mexico Liberty holds that Libertarian candidates,

officeholders or appointed spokespersons at all levels ofgovernment or the Party should refrain from advocating new ormore restrictive laws, new or more expensive spendingprograms, or new or higher taxes. To paraphrase from themedical profession, First, do no harm.

The Concealed Carry Lieby Richard C. Evey, Libertarian / Patriot

    www.jpfo.org/ccwlie.htm

Rights are defined by Black's Law: "A right of. free action. Rightsare "inherent" and cannot be extracted from a person. A right issomething that you can do without permission. A privilege issomething that cannot be done without permission.

Rights are granted to me by my creator.

    Rights and privilege are opposite.

Rights and responsibilities are inseparable. Every right impliesresponsibilities and the only limitation on those rights, is theequal rights of others.

The right to defend and protect myself even to the use of deadlyforce is granted to me by my creator and guaranteed by theUnited States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. That rightextends to the carrying of a firearm for the purpose of selfdefense.

A right cannot be licensed or permitted. A license/ permit can begranted/ revoked at any time, at the will of the government thatgranted the license/ permit or by a higher form of government.

Concealed Carry permits/ license (CCP) laws have been passedby over 35 states nation-wide. There is pending federal

legislation that would make states recognized other state CCPas they do their own, just like drivers licenses, marriagelicenses, etc.

CCP licenses/ permits are nothing more than gun registration. IfI have a license / permit granted by a government, then thatgovernment knows that I am carrying a concealed weapon andthey can check on me, at any time, to see what I am doing and ifI am complying with their dictates. If I have a CCP then thegovernment also knows that I own at least one weapon.

The state of North Carolina passed a CCP law in the late 1990's,stating the county sheriff would be the only ones to have anyrecords on who had a CCP. Within three years after the lawwent into effect, they changed the law and put all CCPs on astate wide data base. Telling every government law enforcementperson in the state who is carrying and owns at least oneweapon.

Now the federal government wants to be real nice and kind andwonderful and tell all states that they have to acknowledge allthe other states that allow CCP. Once this law is in place, thenthe federal government will have a data base of all those whohave at least one weapon. GUN REGISTRATION.

FACT: if you have a CCP, then you own at least one weaponand with a state permitting / licensing system and the federalgovernment acknowledging it. Then the federal government willnot have to go through a lot of paper work to start it'sconfiscation of all weapons when the mood hits them.

Law enforcement people will not be exempt; if law enforcement(federal, state, local) do not go along with the system then they

will give up their rights and their status as the elite. Remember:"we are all equal, some more equal than others".

When states passed the CCP laws, it was just a way to keep thesheep off guard and a lot of us fell for the betrayal and lies thatwere told to us by the elected freedom takers. The lie was: justask for a permit/license because we want only the law biddingand the good people to have a permit / license to carry aweapon. Would a criminal apply for a permit / license?? Thatwas the first lie; telling us to prove that we are innocent is inviolation of the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution. Thenext lie: The license/ permit will be just paper work and there willbe no data base kept. They changed the law a few years laterwith no fan fare and the watchdog pro-gun groups missed thatone. Then we got betrayed again.

The next lie: Now they want a federal law that will make alstates recognize other states' CCPs, so that we can go abouour lives and not be concerned over legal issues, which will leadto a federal database. And the rest will be history.

There are states that allow people to carry a weapon open butthen there is a law that say, you can be charged with "going interror of the public", catch 22.

Then there are the states that do not required a license / permiif you want to carry a concealed weapon. Remember: "an armedsociety is a polite society" and "a safe society is one where the

criminal does not know who is armed", the criminal / enemy canbe the government, federal, state, local, it does not matter.

Until we get elected people who will not make new laws burepeal and/or modify old laws that would make it a right for aldecent citizens to be able to carry a weapon, without the need ofpaperwork; anyway, anywhere, anyhow and the right of the useof deadly force without the fear of prosecution. We will be undercontrol of the government and we will be their slaves and theywill be our masters.

When was the last time that you got a permit/ license to go tochurch, read a magazine, write a letter to the paper, voice youropinion? Do you need a license/permit to remain silent?

The government must know who is carrying. Licensing permitting is a ploy by government to know who has the

weapons and knowing who has a CCP; the government doesnot have to collect all the paper work that was used to buy theweapons. The government just checks the CCP data base andthese will be the first who will have their weapons taken awaywhen the gun confiscations starts, by hook or by crook, by will orby force. Then there will be the ones who will rat out others justo save their skins, the first ones will be the politicians, lawenforcement, lawyers, judges, and government employees andothers will follow. All these people will have to do is rat you ouand they save themselves from a possible prison time. They wilstill give up their weapons but they will not be in prison, justslaves.

    What can you do?

    1. Find out what are all the laws and rules are in your state

related to CCP and weapons ownership.2. Destroy your CCP, advise your local, county, state law

enforcement that you do not have a CCP. Make sure thayour information is off any and all state data bases.

    3. Work to get people elected that will alter/ change laws thawill make it legal to carry without a permit/license.

    4. If you must carry, be very careful, with the search rules thatare in place by the courts, you will be taking a chance.

    5. Advise others of the CCP lie and what is going on in yourstate.

We must work together to bring back the United StatesConstitution and the Bill of Rights. It is not just a piece of paperand it is not a living document. It is the law of the land.

Remember the Trojan horse, the unintended consequences olaws, regulations and rules and how, when passed theyappeared good but later they were twisted and the back pagewas learned and the truth came out about their real intentionPatriot Act I & II, National ID Act, RFID chip Act.

A lot of laws that have been passed within the last ten yearslooked good, sounded good and were meant to be good, buwhat could'a, should'a, would'a, wasn't.

Wake up people, the coffee is boiling over.
