Improvement Agenda
GLENVALE NEWS The Newsletter of Glenvale School

the
Dear Glenvale Community,
Welcome to the last Newsletter of the school year
2019. As usual, time has flown and it has been a
big year with many successes, challenges and
rewards.
A big thank you to our parents, carers and
community for your ongoing support, feedback
and communication. It is our aim to be responsive
to your needs and to support our students to the
very best of our ability. We don’t always get
everything right but we certainly act on any
concerns or issues to the best of our ability.
Communication is always the key so please let us
know anytime if you have compliments or
concerns.
Our staffing will be finalised as best as we can
soon and we will be able to send out class
structures, combinations and which teachers and
school learning support officers are on which class.
As you can imagine, with such a large workforce
and with leave, part-time working and other
considerations it is always a fluid situation.
We always attempt to minimise disruption and
limit the changes to staff and classes to provide as
much consistency as we can, but whereas other
schools know they are getting a certain number of
Year 7 students, for example, we never know who
will fill our vacancies as our Year 12 students
leave. This means classes can have movement to
ensure the most age appropriate and educational
fit for our students.
I would like to thank our amazing staff for all of
their work, dedication and passion throughout the
year and hope that they have a well-deserved
break and get a chance to recharge for 2020. Once
we know any staff changes and have them locked
in by day one next year I will let you all know in
the first newsletter of 2020.
Our school would also like to congratulate our
graduating Year 12 students and wish them and
their families best wishes for the future. This
transition is a difficult yet exciting time for families
and also a time where our staff reflect on our
students and the progress they have made
through school.
Our new building works at the Entrance North will
be completed by the beginning of Term 2, 2020
and I appreciate the frustration that can be felt
during major works. Unfortunately all work must
be done during holiday breaks, which draws out
the process, but new bathrooms in the North main
building will be ready for day 1, 2020.
Narara Campus is being completely re-roofed
during the holiday break as well as new cabling for
Wi-Fi to be installed for the first time. Again, I
thank everyone for their patience.
Since arriving at Glenvale it has been my singular
focus to improve the school in any way I can, be
that physically through resources, by improving
culture or by enhancing the quality of educational
provision. I am proud to be principal of Glenvale
and as I finish my third year here, I look forward to
even more achievements and betterments in the
next few years. I thank the staff, students and
community for your support and feedback.
On behalf of the staff of Glenvale School, I wish all
families and students a wonderful and enjoyable
holiday break and a safe and happy Christmas.
The final day for students this year will be
Wednesday, December 18.
School resumes for students on Wednesday,
January 29, 2020.
Looking forward to 2020 and until then, regards as
always, Matt.
After our Narara presentation on Friday 13th December,
please come along to our Narara campus and enjoy a
cuppa and morning tea hosted by our school chaplain,
Nikki Tanner.
Nikki would enjoy meeting everyone, all are welcome.
Glenvale school would like to thank all our parents and
carers for all your amazing work this year.
’
All welcome
From the Transition Desk....
Just before your young person turns 16 remember to apply for the Disability Support Pension (DSP) at Centrelink. You should ask for the 'Educational Supplement' while your child is still attending school too. You should receive more financial support for your household when your young person receives the DSP, which means you will lose Family Tax Benefit (FTB). Centrelink stated- Regarding when a young person claims DSP and parents receiving FTB. If a customer is claiming DSP online, the FTB will cancel automatically. If a customer claims DSP in paper form FTB will not cancel automatically which could incur a debt if DSP is granted. If by any chance the DSP is rejected FTB can be restored back to the cancel date.
Please check your DSP eligibility.
If you require proof of identity from the Department of Education to apply for the Disability
Support Pension just before the student turns 16 years of age please contact the school office.
We will provide a letter and a school identification card.
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING: This Is Me
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to all students who received awards at Glenvale School: The
Entrance North Campus, Celebration of Learning, they are our shining stars.
It was a great morning at The Entrance North Surf Club, where we were joined by our ever sup-
portive parents and carers, DoE Director Ros McCallan-Jamieson and local member David Mehan
and special guests. It was lovely to see such a great turn out from our community in recognising
and supporting the achievements of our young people.
We are very proud of all our students who made incredible leaps in their learning this year.
A very special thank you to all staff at The Entrance North Campus, who planned, decorated,
setup, packed up and who made this such a special event - you are all truly amazing.
A big thank you to Alison at Bunnings Warehouse Australia for
helping out Room 3 (Narara) students with some fabulous
Christmas Art.
In Room 1 at NE we are keen gardeners and
musicians.

Voluntary School Contributions
Every public school asks for a small contribution towards the
many costs associated with education programs.
At Glenvale, we ask that parents contribute $35 per child each year.
This has not changed for many years and is very small in compari-
son to other schools, even though our costs can be much higher.
Please consider sending in the $35 as soon as you are able to do so; a payment
can be made via our webpage www.glenvale-s.schools.nsw.edu.au. Go to the
‘Make a Payment’ tab and follow the links.
Many thanks to those who have already done so.
All donations to the school over $2 are tax deductible as Glenvale is registered
with the Australian Tax Office as a deductible gift.

Please return permission notes and information regarding students ASAP.

Dates /Things to Remember
Uniforms wanted, size 18 and above—if you have any uniform items that you no longer need
please hand these into the school office. We have sufficient supplies of small sizes but are
desperate for size 18 and above.
Recycling your old mobile phone is a good idea—please drop them in our school
office
Over 90% of the materials in a mobile phone are recovered to make new products including jewellery; plastic
fence posts and stainless steel products. These valuable resources are lost forever if you put your mobile
phone in the garbage bin. At landfill, mobile phone batteries leak toxic materials such as cadmium.
Saver Plus is now available on the Central Coast. Saver Plus is a $ for $ matched savings program de-
signed to help families with $500 for educational costs for eligible participants.
This could be beneficial for your families as we have assisted more than 47,000 families with educational
costs.
How it works—Participants make regular deposits towards a savings goal over a 10-month period and
attend workshops to build their financial management skills. When participants reach their savings goal,
ANZ matches the amount—up to $500 towards education costs including uniforms, text books, laptops
and much more. To see the eligibility criteria go to the Facebook page— SaverPlusAU
