who is the new or leans miss ion?The New Orleans Mission is the largest, full service Christian charity in the Gulf South. The Mission is an Interdenominational organization.

Established in 1989, the New Orleans Mission is a private 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization initially created as a service provider for a growing population of homeless men living in our city. Today, we are the largest faith based private service provider among 60 shelters catering to the homeless population of New Orleans. Our overnight shelter capacity has grown from 80 men to 244, including 32 women.

The New Orleans Mission provides food, shelter, clothing and spiritual guidance to the city’s homeless, hurting and hungry. Our commitment to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of the homeless community is backed by the financial support of generous local residents, churches, organizations and corporate donors that understand the importance of being socially responsible to the people in communities where they live and/or do business.

The purpose of the New Orleans mission is to “help hurting people” see that there is hope whether they struggle with addiction, homelessness, hunger, health concerns, mental illness or lack of education. Our staff is equipped to meet every need through the love of Christ.

Haley Boulevard has been the target of recent redevelopment that has brought numerous retail and office locations to the area. Additionally, our campus is situated next to the Pontchartrain Expressway.

our future.Our vision for the future of the New Orleans Mission incorporates renovation and some removal of existing buildings, as well as some ideas for additional buildings to expand the services we offer. We have developed this vision to be realized in six phases. 1

After some negotiation of property, the New Orleans Mission has purchased the red house across the street from their campus on Baronne Street. With this new facility, the administrative offices will be able to transition out of their current location, within the women’s center, to their own space. Funding will be needed to repay loans for furnishing these new offices.

Upon the relocation of the staff offices, we seek to revamp the current women’s center to accommodate even more beds for housing women, moving from 16 beds to a total of 32 beds. Funding will be needed to furnish the facility’s expansion needs as well as provide for proper staffing of the center.

The temporary structure installed on our campus post-Katrina has over-served its purpose. Only intended to house people for a short period of time, this structure has now been utilized for storage, but is facing major damage and leaks. It’s removal is key to continued growth of the New Orleans Mission’s campus.

The addition of a day center is a key element to the expansion of services that the New Orleans Mission can offer. This kind of facility can serve as a covered place for the homeless to congregate in fellowship during the day as well as provide showers and restrooms for daily use.

Our main building is desperately in need of renovation and repairs. A historic renovation of the building would safely accommodate all of our men and provide reduced costs through historic tax credits. While this renovation is in progress, we will utilize the new day center to house men.

To provide for transitional housing for women coming out of sex trafficking, we would love to develop a mixed-use building. Here, women would be housed on the upper floors and a coffee shop could occupy the ground floor. This would serve as additional income for the New Orleans Mission.
