PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE – STRENGTHENING OUR FAITH –

ENSURING OUR FUTUREA Vision for the New Prague Area Catholic Community’s Future

The Preserving Our Heritage – Strengthening Our Faith – Ensuring Our Future Capital Campaign’s theme communicates how this effort will ensure our future,

as well as demonstrate how we appreciate the work of those who came before us. As a family of faith we strive to live our mission: We are a Catholic community

forming disciples of Jesus Christ dedicated to loving God through our worship, sharing the Good News, and loving service to others.

The NPACC’s three sites provide a setting for serving Christ and passing on to future generations the beliefs, values and teachings of our Catholic faith. The love and care that created our facilities has served us well, but normal

wear and tear requires us to invest in necessary upgrades.

St. Wenceslaus’ leadership has determined the following priority order at each site. A capital improvements team has been established for St. John’s

and St. Scholastica to work closely with the awarded contractor and complete projects in priority order based on how much capital is raised. Our intent is

to not incur debt, so funds will be used as they are available.

St. WenceslausDebt from Parking Lot Project — $470,000

The parking lot and land is property of St. Wenceslaus Church. It was rebuilt in 2015 by our parish for a total cost of $650,000. Our current debt is approximately $470,000. St. Wenceslaus does receive rent from the hospital that goes directly to the debt, however, what we receive doesn’t cover the full required payments.

Replace Boilers — Cost Estimate: $310,000-$350,000

The boilers that provide heat to the church, school and Parish Activities Center are over 40 years old and are at the end of their useful life. Parts are increasingly difficult to get for the burners and more fuel efficient models are available. The cost to operate more efficient boilers will save the parish money over time in utility cost. A donor has already made a contribution of $50,000 to replace the boilers. Work on the boilers will begin after the debt for the parking lot is paid off and the rest of the money is raised.

Cemetery Chapel Repair — Cost Estimate: $80,000

The Cemetery Chapel is in need of exterior repair to both the copper clad roof and the stone work for the exterior. The repairs would replace the roof and tuck point and do other exterior repairs. The parish has applied for and received a grant from the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association of $7,000 to begin this work when the rest of the money is raised.

City Street Assessments — Cost Estimate: $90,000

The parish has assessments for street improvements that occurred in the summer of 2019 at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and 7th Street. The cost of this assessment is nearly $22,000. The parish will begin paying this assessment in 2020.The parish will also have an assessment of $68,000 for the improvements on Main Street that will be occurring in 2020. Assessment payments for this work will begin in 2021.

Other Exterior Repairs — Cost Estimate: $100,000

The church at St. Wenceslaus is in need of tuck pointing and other exterior repairs to keep our buildings in good repair.

Total estimated cost: $1.1 million

Information on Giving to the CampaignThe information below is not meant to provide advice as each individual’s financial situation is unique. For further information or questions regarding how to make these gifts or the tax benefits, please consult with your accountant and/or financial advisor.

Before making a commitment to the Capital Campaign, it’s important that you know the following:

• When receiving your commitment information, please take time to consider and pray over the amount to give.

• Please do not reduce your gifts to our Annual Stewardship in order to make a Capital Campaign gift.

• You may direct your gifts to a specific site by indicating this on the commitment card.

• All giving to this effort is confidential. Only our parish staff who records gifts will know what you gave.

Through God’s Call — It’s up to us! We are asking each household to prayerfully consider, with the guidance of the Lord, the commitment you will make to the NPACC’s Capital Campaign. Know that your gift will be a blessing to others for years to come as they use our facilities in so many ways.

In what ways can I make a gift to the Capital Campaign? There are numerous ways in which you can make your gifts. As you consider your commitment, please review the following options: Envelopes, Check or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)Most donors will make gifts and pay their pledge by envelopes, check or electronic funds transfer. Such charitable contributions may be tax deductible on your personal tax return. To make the process even easier, EFT is available to automatically make payments.

Stocks and bonds that have appreciatedFunding charitable giving with appreciated stocks or bonds may be advantageous to both you and the parish. In most cases, you will avoid paying any capital gains taxes while receiving a full value charitable deduction, and the church will receive a liquid asset. To claim all these benefits, the stocks/bonds must be transferred to the church rather than selling the stocks/bonds and donating the proceeds, which then turns the gift into an ordinary cash gift.

Individual Retirement AccountThe Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Charitable Rollover provision allows individuals who have reached age 72 to donate up to $100,000 per year to charitable organizations directly from their IRA, without treating the distribution as taxable income. A qualified charitable distribution is a direct transfer of funds from an IRA custodian, payable to the New Prague Area Catholic Community. These can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions for the year and can also be excluded from taxable income.

CommoditiesCommodities can be given directly to the NPACC. The fair market value of the gifted commodity may be excluded from taxable income of the donor, resulting in a potential tax savings.

Gifts from the cash value of life insuranceSome people have accumulated cash in insurance policies that they can give.

Real estate that has appreciatedGiving real estate that has been held for over one year and appreciated in value may provide tax benefits to the donor. These benefits may include the full market deduction and no capital gains tax. If property has been depreciated on an accelerated basis, the deduction for the contribution may be subject to different rules.

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Campaign PrayerHeavenly Father, we come before your throne asking your blessing upon our parish and her individual churches in our capital campaign efforts. May the debt reduction, maintenance, repairs, and restorations for our buildings and grounds be a sign and symbol of your work in us to reduce our debt of sin, maintain us in your grace, repair any brokenness in our hearts, and restore us to our inheritance in your kingdom. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary be our refuge and the intercession and help of our patrons St. Wenceslaus, St. John, and St. Scholastica be our protection and bring our efforts to a successful end for Your glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.
