  • There is a story told of a man who was confined to his bed at home. People from the parish came to see him. After their visit, they said, “We will pray for you.” The cripple replied, “I can do my own praying. But, if you really want to help, you can take out the garbage and do the dishes.” Christians, we are advised, should be an audio-visual aid to teach other people how to live. Today's parable was one of three parables that Christ spoke in the last days of His life. They

are known in history as the Parables of Rejection. This day's Gospel was the first and shortest of the set of three and has been called by an author the Better of Two Bad Sons. The original meaning of the parable is crystal clear. Number 1 son, who says “yes” to the father but does not deliver, was a stand-in for the religious authorities of the day who were long on words but short on deeds. When the Son of God came in the person of the Master, these pious folk were indecently anxious to kill Him. Number 2 son, who said “no” to his father, but who then went and did what his dad wanted, was a type for world-class sinners. When they ran into or met Jesus, they changed their lives. They threw their lot in with Him. St. Matthew, today's author, was such a person and, so, was writing from first hand experience. When that famous push comes to shove, it is only by deeds that we really prove what and who we are. Neither of the parable's sons is satisfactory. Both hurt their father. True, the son who said “no” and then obeyed was better. But still he was no great son. What the Teacher is shooting for is a person who says, "Yes, Lord." and then gets immediately goes out and delivers. It is as if Jesus is asking us that old but pertinent question, "Do you walk the walk or do you just talk the talk?” Clearly, what Jesus was looking for was a "son" who said "yes" both with his mouth and with his behavior --- a son who “said” yes and "did" yes. I wish you an enjoyable weekend and a truly blest and faith-filled week.

    Family Mass Begins Again

    Next Weekend!

Beginning next weekend, October 3-4, we will have Family Mass every Sunday at 9:30am in the Parish Hall. There will be piano music and a youth cantor, and the homily will be tailored to the young people in the audience. Reservations are required and you can sign up through the website as you have been. The only

difference is that instead of noting how many individuals will attend, it is “one slot per family.” You will make a reservation for ONE family & note the names of all the members attending. Please join us! Any questions, please contact Deacon James Even.

The bulletin will highlight what is happening in each grade of our school on a regular basis.

POP Preschool has been very busy learning about the alphabet and The Saints! Last week we learned about the letter “M” and we learned about Saint Michael the Archangel! We sang “Captain Letter to help us to learn what sound the letter makes, and we prayed to Saint Michael!

If you are a member of a Prince of Peace ministry that is unable to meet or

take part in your ministry right now, please consider helping out with the

Mass Volunteer Team! The ONLY WAY we are able to offer Mass, Eucharistic

Adoration, baptisms, weddings and funerals right now is because we have

volunteers who are willing to assist at every event. Can you spare an hour or

more each week? Or every other week? Please contact the parish office if

you would like to help. THANK YOU!

    Prince of Peace Brick Orders

Thank you to all who have placed a brick order! Due to the number of orders we received and the current COVID restrictions we are still under, the decision has been made to install the bricks in the spring. Our hope is at that time people will be able to visit the prayer garden after Mass to view the bricks. We will hold the orders until spring and notify you when they are being installed. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

“Prayer is the best preparation for Holy Communion. Prayer is the raising of the mind to God. When we pray we go to meet Christ Who is coming to us. If our Creator and Savior comes from heaven with such great love, it is only fitting that we should go to meet Him. And this is what we do when we spend some time in prayer.”

“Do nothing out of selfishness; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves...” (Philippians 2:3)

Pride and ego are hard things to control. We see how others act or dress and think we are superior to them. We idolize our own self-image. But, if we truly believe everything is a gift from God, we recognize all the people that God has put into our lives as gifts! We are grateful for how they enrich our lives. Pray every day for the people in your life: your family, your friends, and those who make you angry.

Your Parish Still Needs Your Support

For the past several months, while we were unable to attend Mass, and now that we cannot pass the collection basket at Mass, the Sunday contributions received have been significantly lower than what we normally experience. As our lives and finances are impacted during this time, please remember the church’s expenses continue. We are present to meet the needs of our parish community to the best of our abilities.

There is a “Donate Now” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. You can also sign up for continued Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on the next page or on our parish website. After signing up, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass.

Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Day & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.

If you prefer to write a check, or use cash, and use your envelopes, please deposit them in the box when you enter the church or mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!

    ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM

Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”

Direct debits and credit cards can be processed dependent on your preference. Please see below for options. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.

I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

    No More Death

“Dear friends, by seeking holiness and using the gifts God has given us to accomplish his will in our lives, we are

contributing mightily to that kingdom we all long for, where there will be no more crying or pain or death. Certainly no abortion. No euthanasia. No assisted suicide. A Prayer for Vocations:

Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into

His vineyard. We earnestly beg You to bless

our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and

religious men and women who will love You fervently,

and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service

to Your Son’s Church under the guidance of

the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always

centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that they be always

faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be

devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our Mother,

in making You known and loved; and that all may

attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children

and choose from our homes those whom You desire

for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or

advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!

Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
