At a time when most living legends would step back, slow down, and bask in their royalties, there’s a creative curiosity about George Benson that has kept the veteran jazzman active and forging ahead. ‘Weekend In London’, a new live album set for release on November 13th through Provogue Records, brings Benson full circle. The 77-year-old estimates that almost a half-century has passed since he last performed at the fabled Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. This live recording, taken from Benson’s historic return to the Soho club in 2019, is another chapter in the venue’s prestigious lore. Last Rights is the seventh studio album by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy originally released in March 1992. Last Rights was well received and named by Alternative Press as one of the best albums of the 1990s and was the band’s first release to chart on the Billboard 200.

Last Rights saw the band experimenting with two opposite extremes: cacophonous heavy music and gloomy melodies, resulting in moments of industrial weight as well as moments of uncharacteristic softness. The album incorporates some of the band’s most impenetrable walls of sound and an eleven-minute track composed almost entirely of manipulated and distorted samples. It spawned two singles, “Inquisition” and “Left Handshake” which was distributed under the title “Track 10”.

Seattle, the sprawling metropolis perched on the edge of the West Coast of the United States, is sandwiched between an arm of the Pacific Ocean to the west and Lake Washington to the east. It’s the fastest-growing city in the U.S., thanks to its giant tech industry, which pulses through its veins. “We’re excited about being from Seattle. Even with all of its faults, it’s a great place to be,” says Dragged Under vocalist, Tony Cappocchi. “I think that a lot of the lack of culture stems from the large corporations that employ the majority of the city. Most people that grow up here are on the Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing, express. They desire to work for these big companies because it’s ‘what you do’. As a band we want to question that notion by doing what we want, and writing what’s in our hearts”

Dragged Under have the conviction to question both themselves as well as others – which can be a heavy tool to wield. The band’s debut album, ‘The World Is In Your Way’, covers a wide range of topics including self-reflection, introspection, class barriers, mental health issues, government overreach and self-accountability. “Our main mission is to shed light on some of the issues that people find uncomfortable,” Cappocchi claims. “Including responsibility and accountability. We don’t subscribe to the theory that an invisible hand holds us down and keeps us low. We strive to push through that.”

The band’s blend of hardcore is interlaced with sublime and infectious punk-pop undertones, which stems from the music they grew up on. There is an undeniable melodic heartbeat to every song, which makes them sit front and centre of your brain upon listening. They combine massive choruses and crushing riffs recalling moments of Beartooth, Stray From The Path, While She Sleeps, Four Year Strong and A Day To Remember. Daniel Avery returns with the surprise album Love + Light, his third full-length record. Love + Light will be released on Mute on November 13 on limited edition milky clear vinyl and CD (digital release June 26). The ethereal artwork is taken from an image by Avery’s tour photographer, Keffer.

Love + Light arrives unexpectedly following Avery’s recent collaborations with Alessandro Cortini on the critically acclaimed Illusion of Time LP and alongside Roman Flügel under the alias of Noun. Pitchfork described Illusion of Time as “expansive in scope, charmingly rough around the edges, and brimming with possibility...a beautiful record that takes wonder as its defining characteristic,” while Loud & Quiet hailed it as “a record that suggests Godspeed You! If you ever hoped that Type O Negative would just break out and be metal, you just discovered your new favorite band. The Bronx Casket Co. was founded by Overkill bassist and main songwriter DD Verni. The first self-titled “Bronx Caset Co.” was originally released in Europe by Massacre Records in 1999, and followed up by “Sweet Home Transylvania” in 2001, “Hellectric” in 2005 and “Antihero” in 2011.

Verni’s clear groove oriented bass drives the entire band along with drummer Tim Mallare (Overkill, M.O.D.) on the first 3 releases and Rob Pallota (25 ta Life) on the later. Along with keyboardist Charlie Calv (Angel, Shotgun Symphony) offering everything from a chiller thriller sound to dramatic sorrow laden atmospheric sounds. Guitars provide by Jack Frost (Savatage, Seven Witches, Lizzy Borden) remain chunky, heavy and when the solo opportunities arrive, rip. Lyrics and melodies express a dark, disturbing and satirical sliver of Verni’s personality that Overkill’s thrash style never could. The Bronx Casket Company just raised the benchmark for doom and goth. Originally fronted by Myke Hideous (The Misfits, Empire Hideous) on the first 3 albums with DD taking over vocals full time on Antihero.

This release is completely re-mastered by Alan Douches (The Misfits, Mastodon, etc…) and includes a bonus disc of early demos, unreleased remixes, a cover of The Misfits classic “Ghouls Night Out”. Plus a brand newly recorded mash up of the classic Black Sabbath tracks “The Writ/Megalomania” entitled “Sabatage-d”. Richard Black was once known as the “King of the Sunset Strip”. Shark Island was also the house band at the world famous Gazzaris on the Sunset Strip, Bill Gazzari even helped produce their first single. Signed to Epic Records in 1989 the band released their debut album “Law of the Order”, and also saw the tracks "Dangerous" and "Father Time" featured in the movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, as well as the song "My City" from the movie Point Break.

Richard would go to be part of the short lived supergroup Contraband which also featured Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO), and member of L.A. Guns, Ratt and Vixen. They released one album in 1991 before disbanding.

Shark Island was resurrected in 2005 and recorded and released the album “Gathering of the Faithful” in 2006. In 2018 the band started work on Bloodline which was recorded in Croatia and Los Angeles. It was produced by Alex Kane (Life Sex Death, Enuff Z’Nuff) and mixed by the legendary Sylvia Massy (Aerosmith, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers). It was limited to self release before being picked up by Deko Entertainment.

Now Bloodline 2.020 will hit stores in November and feature the unreleased extended version of “Rocks On The Rocks” and a brand new track they especially recorded for this, “Someday”.

While 2020’s Wreckless Abandon is their first official release, The Dirty Knobs first came together 15 years ago after Mike Campbell met guitarist Jason Sinay at a session and liked the way their guitars sounded together. After adding the acclaimed rhythm section of bassist Lance Morrison and drummer Matt Laug, The Dirty Knobs became an outlet for Campbell to work on some of the other songs he was writing between Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers records and touring.

They got together when schedules permitted, playing music without an agenda, expectations or deadlines, without worrying about outcome or hits, pushing boundaries of taste, imagination, and genres and creating some of the most brutally confident yet psychically dangerous rock and roll since sonic-renegade juggernauts the Yardbirds first sauntered onto a London stage and ripped into “For Your Love.”

As the years went on the Knobs played out here and there, almost incognito, in little clubs in Southern California. Finally, it became

clear they should take what they did to the next level. Campbell’s long-time compatriot, friend and bandmate, Tom Petty, had passed away, and after the numbing grief abated some, the guitarist knew the only way to heal some of the pain was to throw himself wholeheartedly back into his music.

They recorded the album at Campbell’s home studio, Hocus Pocus Recorders, in just three weeks’ time, before the guitarist went out on the road in 2018 as a member of Fleetwood Mac. The Knobs tapped legendary producer George Drakoulias, who had also produced Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ 2002 LP The Last DJ, to co-produce, with all songs written by Campbell.

The album features further contributions from Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist Chris Stapleton as well as fellow Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers founding-member, Benmont Tench. Additionally, Klaus Voormann, who is best known for doing the art for The Beatles’ Revolver, created the album artwork.

ABOUT:

Tim Minchin is an Australian composer, musician, actor, writer and director. Minchin is best known for his live shows, performing extensively around the world and releasing three live albums and five live DVDs. He has sold out some of the world’s most famous venues; The Royal Albert Hall, London’s O2 Arena, Melbourne’s Hamer Hall and the iconic Sydney Opera House. Matt Lorenz’s vision, manifest in The Suitcase Junket, has always existed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in its imagery and staging. Solitary in its

thrift and self-reliance. What instruments he requires, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform, he plays alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to icons of showmanship, genius, madness, and invention.

While audiences are initially captivated by that solitary form and skill, Lorenz is most serious about the writing. With this 2020 release, The End is New, his attention to the song and the sound overrides the how of it. Produced by trusted friend, producer and Los Lobos saxophonist Steve Berlin, and released by BMG’s new Americana label Renew Records, The End is New is an artist expanding, collaborating, matching his lyric power over eleven tracks with the epic range and narratives of his imagination.

“I told Steve I wanted to make a doom-folk record. That’s what I’d started calling my music when people asked,” says Lorenz. “Neither of us knew quite what that meant at the time, but I think we found out with The End is New. There’s a heavy mix of hope and desperation in the sound and lyrically I was trying to be a mirror to society using truth, myth, confessions and stories.”

Lorenz and Berlin polished off the record during the pandemic of 2020, recording and mixing from home studios over months of isolation. Berlin laid keys on several tracks, and sax on “When the Battle is Won.” J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) makes a ripping appearance on “Light a Candle.” Studio musicians brought bass, percussion, vocals, clavinet, organ, drums. From the romp of “Jesus! King of the Dinosaurs” to the roar of “Can’t Look Away” the sound is bigger than ever. “The things I value are under attack and writing songs and making art are the methods I have for responding,” says Lorenz. “I have tried to use my observations and reflections of the world bent through my fun-house-mirror mind to show what I see. We can do better.”

Raised in Cavendish, Vermont, Matt Lorenz began playing piano at age five, and later took up violin, saxophone, and guitar. He now homesteads with chickens and rescue dogs in rural Western Massachusetts. ‘The Suitcase Junket’ is a nod to his longtime love of collecting old suitcases, including the one that serves as his bass drum, and to a secondary definition of junket, i.e. “a pleasure excursion.”

Mute are excited to announce the release of Cabaret Voltaire’s new album Shadow of Fear, to be released November 20 on CD, limited edition double purple vinyl, and all digital platforms.

Shadow of Fear is Cabaret Voltaire’s first studio album in 26 years. A live performance at Berlin’s Atonal was the band’s first show since November 1992 and began a new era for the pioneering Sheffield outfit, whose influence across electronic, post-punk and industrial music remains untouchable. Originally active between 1973-1994 - featuring Chris Watson until 1981 and Stephen Mallinder until 1994 - the group remained inactive for 20 years. Richard H. Kirk is the sole remaining member, having taken a breakto pursue various other projects, releasing countless acclaimed solo albums, as well as under othermonikers such as Sandoz. He’d also already invented bleep techno along the way via his groundbreaking work in Sweet Exorcist.

Whilst most artists may take the conventional route and write material to be able to tour, Kirk took the unique approach and began to form a new album plucked from a series of pulverising live shows. The result is an album that defies categorisation. The tone and personality of Cabaret Voltaire is ingrained into its core as it dances across techno, dub, house, 1970s Germany, and general esoteric explorations coupled with mangled vocal samples.

With three UK Top 10 hits, three Grammy nominations and a succession of classics such as ‘Superstylin’’, ‘Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)’, ‘I See You Baby’, ‘Paper Romance’ and ‘At The River’, Groove Armada are one of the most influential forces in dance music. Now the duo – Tom Findlay and Andy Cato – add a new chapter to their storied history with the release of the new album ‘Edge of the Horizon’.

It’s been ten years since Groove Armada released their landmark album ‘Black Light’. They’ve been active in recent years - DJ sets, select live shows and the ‘Twenty One Years’ compilation - yet the prospect of a new album seemed unlikely. That all changed when they stepped out at the Boomtown Festival and saw the reaction from long-term fans and newcomers alike.

“We walked on stage to a young crowd, there were 40,000 people there,” smiles Cato. “We had the most amazing Hollywood Bowl type view from the stage and it just felt so fresh and relevant.”

Initially they planned to complete some half-finished ideas that remained from the ‘Black Light’ era. Elements of the title track and ‘Holding Strong’ both remain from that original plan, but ultimately their creative connection resulted in their upcoming seventh album.

The album’s lead single ‘Get Out On The Dancefloor’ puts an esoteric slant on their sound. The track features key ‘Black Light’ collaborator Nick Littlemore (Empire Of The Sun, Pnau), whose stream-of-consciousness vocals merge with Groove Armada’s slick grooves to feel like a motorik twist on Talking Heads. The duo had accumulated hundreds of extracts of Littlemore’s vocals and painstakingly edited them together into something fresh and vibrant.
