Parish News
Family Faith Formation We will meet next on Wednesday, November
7 at 6 pm. We’ll start our night with dinner at 6 pm, followed by
classes at 6:30 pm. For our Adult Faith Formation, Father Steve
will continue his series on Prayer. This is open to everyone, so
whether you are young or old, single or family, all are welcome to
join us. This is great way to not only learn more about your
Catholic faith but to meet new people. There is child care
available for those who have
children younger than kindergarten.
Attention Knights of Columbus & Auxiliary Members Mark your
calendars to help with Bingo set up on Monday, November 12, at 6
pm. Also, lots of help will be needed on Tuesday for the Bingo.
Please remember to bring bars.

Bible Study
We meet on Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm in the Social Hall. We
always look forward to and welcome new members! Come when you can;
there is no pressure to be there every week.
2019 Giving Envelopes
The 2019 Giving Envelopes are available in the parish office for
our snowbirds who like to pick them up before they leave for the
winter.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! “Adopt the Church Walkways”
We are looking for volunteers to adopt a weekend for snow
removal this winter. What do you do when you adopt a weekend? It is
simple - you just keep an eye on the weather and be sure our
sidewalks are safe, free of snow and ice, before people arrive for
each of the Masses on that weekend. We want to give a HUGE THANK
YOU to the 6 individuals/families who signed up to help with the
snow removal last year! What an amazing group of snow angels. But,
we need more volunteers! There are a lot of winter weekends and we
need more than 6 families to fill the calendar (plus, one of our
faithful volunteering families has moved away).
We are very blessed to have the City plow our parking lot, so we
only need to clear our walkways. The church has ice melt/sand mix,
shovels and a snow blower on site but volunteers are needed to do
the work.
There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the back of the church.
Please consider this opportunity to give back by offering up a
weekend or two for this important task. We need to make sure we
have all the weekends covered so please sign up as soon as you can.
We need people who can commit to specific weekends, as well as
"extras" who are willing to be called on short notice when/if
something unexpected comes up and a weekend replacement is needed
for the person who originally signed up. We will distribute a
master list of contact information to all the volunteers.
If you have any questions, please contact Cindy in the parish
office. We sincerely appreciate your consideration for this very
important service for our parish.

From the Desk of Father Steve:
As our nation prepares for election day on Tuesday, we pray that
God may provide us with wise and prudent elected officials who will
lead us with humility, justice and integrity. As we carry out our
civic duty this week and go to the polls, I would like to provide
us with a helpful set of goals for consideration in exercising our
precious right to vote. This list is taken directly from the USA
Bishops document entitled, “Forming Consciences for Faithful
Citizenship” published in November of 2015. God bless you! ~Fr.

Catholic teaching challenges voters and candidates, citizens and
elected officials, to consider the moral and ethical dimensions of
public policy issues. In light of ethical principles, we bishops
offer the
following policy goals that we hope will guide Catholics as they
form their consciences and reflect on the moral dimensions of their
public choices. Not all issues are equal; these ten goals address
matters of different moral weight and urgency. Some involve
intrinsically evil acts, which can never be approved. Others
involve affirmative obligations to seek the common good. These and
similar goals can help voters and candidates act on ethical
principles rather than particular interests and partisan
allegiances. We hope Catholics will ask candidates how they intend
to help our nation pursue these important goals:
• Address the preeminent requirement to protect the weakest in
our midst—innocent unborn children—by restricting and bringing to
an end the destruction of unborn children through abortion and
providing women in crisis pregnancies the supports they need to
make a decision for life.
• Keep our nation from turning to violence to address
fundamental problems—a million abortions each year to deal with
unwanted pregnancies, euthanasia and assisted suicide to deal with
the burdens of illness and disability, the destruction of human
embryos in the name of research, the use of the death penalty to
combat crime, and imprudent resort to war to address international
disputes.
• Protect the fundamental understanding of marriage as the
life-long and faithful union of one man and one woman and as the
central institution of society; promote the complementarity of the
sexes and reject false “gender” ideologies; and provide better
support for family life morally, socially, and economically, so
that our nation helps parents raise their children with respect for
life, sound moral values, and an ethic of stewardship and
responsibility.
• Achieve comprehensive immigration reform that offers a path to
citizenship, treats immigrant workers fairly, prevents the
separation of families, maintains the integrity of our borders,
respects the rule of law, and addresses the factors that compel
people to leave their own countries.
• Help families and children overcome poverty: ensuring access
to and choice in education, as well as decent work at fair, living
wages and adequate assistance for the vulnerable in our nation,
while also helping to overcome widespread hunger and poverty around
the world, especially in the areas of development assistance, debt
relief, and international trade.
• Provide health care while respecting human life, human
dignity, and religious freedom in our health care system.
• Continue to oppose policies that reflect prejudice, hostility
toward immigrants, religious bigotry, and other forms of unjust
discrimination.
• Encourage families, community groups, economic structures, and
government to work together to overcome poverty, pursue the common
good, and care for creation, with full respect for individuals and
groups and their right to address social needs in accord with their
basic moral and religious convictions.
• Establish and comply with moral limits on the use of military
force—examining for what purposes it may be used, under what
authority, and at what human cost—with a special view to seeking a
responsible and effective response for ending the persecution of
Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East and
other parts of the world.
• Join with others around the world to pursue peace, protect
human rights and religious liberty, and advance economic justice
and care for creation.

Cassi’s Corner—Vocations Awareness Week
The Church has set this week as a time to think about
vocations. We often equate vocation with career, but
they are not they same. There are three primary
vocations: religious, married, and single life; careers
are innumerable and can work within a vocation.
We all live as singles for at least a portion of our lives.
As singles we usually have more flexibility in our
time and can serve in a way that is unique to this call
or state in life. During this time, too, we are called to
practice chastity (which is different than celibacy, but
that’s for another time) and discern how God is
asking us to use the gifts He has given—whether in
religious life or married life. Long term, however, the
call to the single life is not as common, since most are
called to marriage or religious life. There are some,
however, who are called to live a consecrated single
life, living in the world, serving the Church.
Religious vocations are sometimes thought of as the
only true “vocation.” This is likely because we focus
more on calls to the priesthood than the other two
vocations. Religious life also includes being a brother,
sister, monk, or nun.
The vocation of marriage is by far the most common,
but should never be thought of as the least (nor
should religious vocations be considered the best). In
marriage, spouses are called to help each other get to
heaven and to raise their children to know God.
To discern your vocation take time to learn more about
them all, pray about them, and listen for God’s voice since
He knows what would make you the happiest. If you are
already living a vocation (even if you didn’t put much
discerning into the matter), remember that God will give
you the grace to live it. All vocations have sacrifices and
abundant blessings. They are meant to help us become
saints and to help others to do the same.

Fundraising Committee - Seeking new members!
New members and ideas are welcome. The next
fundraising meeting will be after the 11:00 Mass on
Nov. 11 to discuss new and upcoming events.
It’s Red Kettle Time
Our parish has once again been asked to ring bells for
the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraiser on Friday,
November 16th from 11 AM—7 PM. Please call
Nancy at 218-393-2748 if you can ring (and spread
cheer) for an hour or two. This is a great event to do
as a family or small group, so grab some friends.
Military Bulletin Board Updates
If you have a child or grandchild serving in the
military, please send Linda Hoffman a picture along
with their branch of service, rank, where they are
stationed, and what they are doing. The information
will be posted on our bulletin board in the gathering
space. If you have someone on the board now and it
needs updating, let Linda know.
40 Days for Life—Closing Celebration
Monday, Nov. 5th, at 7 pm at the Duluth Gospel
Tabernacle Church, 1515 W. Superior St., Duluth.
Our speaker will be Noah Maldonado, Northern
Regional Coordinator of Students for Life. Come
and share your experiences on the Vigil and enjoy
refreshments with fellow Prayer Warriors. May God
abundantly bless all who fasted and/or prayed on the
Prayer Vigil (and all those who couldn’t be physically
on the Prayer Vigil but also prayed.) Thank you for
your support. ~ The 40 Days for Life Team.
Pasty Report
Thank you to each person who participated in
any way to the pasty sale: peeling, baking, filling,
packaging, and purchasing. Last weekend’s sale
raised $1,055. We plan on raising as many funds as
we can through these pasty sales. We need you to
continue to say “Yes!” when called. Many hands
make light work!

was baptized this past weekend at Holy Spirit. We
congratulate his parents on this happy occasion and
we pray they will be the best of teachers of their child
