GREETINGS FROM THE DIRECTOR OF WOMEN’S MINISTRIES

Mrs Millicent Brown

I give honour to God for taking us to this point in the year when we can join together in celebration

of our God once again. Sincere greetings to our Administrative Bishop, our Ministers, Presidents and Secretaries, Sisters and Brothers who have come from various places to have an empowering and impactful experience this weekend.

The Prophet Jeremiah gives us a wonderful analogy of our trust in the Lord being like a tree planted by the river whose roots sustain it in adverse conditions.

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruit." Jeremiah 17: 7 & 8 (NLT).

Around the world it is evident that governments are becoming more and more unstable as long established structures are breaking down around them. The crises in these countries have affected individuals and families alike as people struggle to meet their daily commitments. As

Christians we are not immune from the effects of this global instability. However we have the confident assurance that we are planted in God and therefore we can never be uprooted. Jeremiah reminds us that we are blessed if we trust God and put our hope and confidence in Him. He also assures us that trees whose roots are continually being watered will not only produce fruit but will produce "delicious fruit".

A few months ago my 4 year old grand-daughter, Mia-Gabrielle, and I planted vegetables in my garden. As she left for home she gave me a sound piece of advice. She said, "Nana, remember to keep watering the plants". I took her advice and a few months later we were able to reap and eat some delicious vegetables. The Christian's life is watered by the Word and prayer - two elements which will keep us afloat when life's stormy sea confronts us.

My advice and encouragement to each of you is that you trust God until He becomes your hope and confidence; nothing will bother you, nothing will make you afraid and you will be able to impact lives as you produce “delicious fruit” for the Kingdom. It is the root of a tree which provides stability and allows the tree to have balance and firmness. You Woman of God are rooted and grounded in God and because of this, you will remain green, you will flourish and you will produce much fruit. Just keep watering...

Greetings!

Yet again I am privileged to extend greetings to First Lady Brown, her Executive Board,

distinguished guests and all delegates to this your 9th Women’s Empowerment Conference.

Over these years I, like many others, have been blessed and challenged by your conferences – your planning, delivery, the themes you have pursued and the anointed speakers you have chosen to impart God’s Word. I am convinced that this year will be no exception.

Your theme Planted in Christ is a most powerful one. It speaks of stability, growth, productivity and potential among other virtues. My prayer is that we will all remain ‘rooted and grounded’ in Him, submitting ourselves to the Father’s pruning, allowing him to cut away from us every dead branch so that we can produce more fruit for the Kingdom (John 15:2).

Ladies, this is your year of explosive growth – go for it!

GREETINGS FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE BISHOP

Rev Dr. Eric A Brown FRSA

GREETINGS & WELCOME FROM

“O Magnify the Lord with me let us exalt His name together”

It is a joy and a privilege to once again greet you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ our Lord. I

am excited about what God is doing amongst His people and indeed amongst Women in our local churches around the country.

On behalf of the National Women’s Executive Board, I take this opportunity to welcome all our guests and delegates to our Women’s Empowerment Conference.

It is indeed a pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to our Administrative Bishop, members of the National Executive Council, all Ministers, Presidents, Co-ordinators and Secretaries.

To our guest speakers Dr Rita Twiggs from the USA, Rev Audrey Robb, Rev Carla Thomas, Sister Elaire Reid, our workshop presenters, worship

team and musicians, we are so pleased that you have accepted our invitation to minister throughout the weekend.

I pray that as you minister the Word through preaching, teaching and singing that souls will be blessed and lives will be changed. We are trusting God for a breakthrough in this conference.

The theme for this year's conference is ‘PLANTED IN CHRIST’ the Word declares, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be as a tree Planted by the waters and that spreadeth out her roots by the river”

When we are planted, grounded and rooted in Christ, we can overcome when the storms of life are raging.

May the Blessings of the Lord be with you throughout this weekend.

School of Ministry and Workshop Information in brief

The school of Ministry and the workshops are designed to enrich the lives of all in attendance.

The children will focus on the theme “How Little Buds Grow” as they are helped to understand the importance and foundations of our faith in funfilled and exciting ways. We firmly believe if little buds are given the right atmosphere they will can grow and blossom into florishing adults.

“It’s difficult to decide whether growing pains are something teenagers have - or are.” This quotation by an unknown author may well sum up the feelings of some parents. However, it is true to say that most teenagers (and their parents) will experience growing pains during the transitional period from childhood to adulthood; this is a very challenging time for them as they experience a host of emotional and physical changes. We believe this workshop – “Growing Pains” will help to impart a living faith that will keep them not only through what for some may be traumatic

years, but will form a foundation on which they can build a close a vibrant relationship with God as they mature in themselves and in their faith.

In our present cultural climate it is important for our young women to understand that they are Planted to Prosper in every area of their lives. This workshop, which will be delivered by their own peers, will help to convey to young women the need to cultivate right choices in order that they can ‘prosper in all they do’. As the leave and fruit of a tree are evidences of the type of tree, their choices, their lifestyles, their actions all display evidences of whether or not they are absorbing the nutrients which will enhance their lives and enable them to produce wholesome fruit which will bring glory to God.

Seasons are a natural process which takes place year after year. We all experience seasonal changes in our lives. This workshop - “Season’s

of Life” has been designed to help our women understand how to enjoy the vibrancy of spring, the lengthy summer evenings, the changes in their environment in the autumn and the harsh winters we may experience. Although winter may not be one of our favourite seasons we must prepare for it, face it bravely and look forward to the next season. There will be an understanding that life cannot be judged by one difficult season but as women who are planted and secured in God’s love, we must persevere through the difficult times and even in the winter months of life continue to ‘bring forth’.

This practical session - Managing My Seeds - will give suggestions on how little can become much when it is used wisely. There will be ideas on practical ways to shop, practical use of common household items, practical ways to save money and practical ways to store food and household items.

The Education and Business workshop under the title ”This is my Season for Education and Business” will help participants recognize that even in this season it is vital to achieve educational succes and to become creative in setting up and running profitable businesses.

Our teaching sessions Managing my Seeds will help us to understand that seeds will only grow in fertile ground. When seeds are sown there is an expectation of reaping. God has planted his seeds of righteousness within us which must be nurtured in order that we can reproduce.

Valerie was born in London, and is a member of New Testament

Church of God, Willesden. She has a passion for young people and particularly admires their innate ability to be honest about their feelings. Helping them develop their gifts is equally important to her because she believes young people do not always realise their potential.

Valerie has been mentoring young people from 2000, largely in her local church at Willesden through the ministry known as Young Gifted and Blessed. This ministry’s aim is to nurture spiritual and personal development in young women.

Valerie is married to Wayne Marshall and they have one teenage daughter, Imani, who, under God, helps her to stay current and relevant to issues that face young people.
