New Treasurer
Our Church Council is pleased to
announce that Tonja McCarthy has
been elected to serve as Church
Treasurer, following in the footsteps of
Don Larson. The Church Treasurer
provides oversight and guidance to the
bookkeeper and Finance committee,
related to the financial expenses of our
congregational life. We have no doubt
that Tonja’s working knowledge of the
church’s organizational structure, her
conscientiousness, and attention to
detail will be a wonderful asset to our
ongoing financial stability. Please thank
her, next time you see her, for her
willingness to serve in this particular
way. We are also tremendously
grateful for Ed Kaufmann’s ongoing
service as our Financial Secretary,
providing oversight and guidance
related to our income.

This summer we will have two Sundays with a special “Pick up Choir.” All folks
interested will gather one hour before the 9:30 service to learn a fairly simple, 2-part
anthem which will be presented that day. If you enjoy singing, please plan to join in on
July 14 and August 11. You can get more information from Paul Hoagland:
[email protected] or 530.444.0892. Be there!
CFYM Events
Can You Help? Parents Night Out: We need some extra volunteers to help provide child care one Saturday a month for three hours. During this
time, you along with the other volunteers would help serve dinner and create crafts with the kids. It truly is a good time for all. If this
is something you are interested in please contact Katie Curtin.
Do you Have a Child That Can Acolyte? If you have a child that is second grade or up who would love a chance to acolyte please

lessons, sports, etc. We hope you have time this summer to enjoy your
family and to refresh. We hope that you are able to add the following
church events to your summer plans.
Are you ready to ROAR?
Vacation Bible School
July 22-26
Registration: http://foothillsumc.net/VBS
Prayer Partners: Thanks to everyone who participated in our prayer
partner activities this year. The connection between the children of our
church and the congregation is one of great importance and I thank you
for fostering it. Although your time with your prayer partner has come to a
close, in August, the CFYM board will be putting together a new prayer
partner list. This will give you the opportunity to connect and pray for
another child at our church.
VBS, July 22-26: We are getting closer to our churches big VBS event.
Registration is open and spaces fill up fast so make sure to register your
child. If you would like to volunteer your help please see Katie Curtin. We
are also collecting donations so make sure to stop by the table and see if
there is something you can help out with.
Backpack Drive: We will be collecting new backpacks and school supplies for children in our
community who are in need. These backpacks go to New Morning Youth Shelter and Rescue
Union School District. There will be a donation basket in the entryway for you to place your
donations in. Keep your eyes open for our backpack stuffing party in August. something that has
interested you now is your chance to give it a try. The CFYM board has worked hard at creating
an easy to teach program that you will be successful at executing. Look for the signup sheet at
the get connected table to sign up for the Sunday that works best for you.
Parents Night Out: Date to be announced. Parents night out is a free service hosted by some
of the grandparents in our congregation. During this time, parents are invited to drop their
children off and go have some grown up time. The children will be served dinner and will
participate in games and crafts.
Prayers for SSP!
Eight youth and two adult
chaperones are serving in
Chiloquin, Oregon from June 30
through July 6. Keep this group
and their mission in prayer.
We look forward to hearing about
their experiences when they
return on a date that is still yet to
be set in July!
Thank You! Because of your generosity Foothills UMC was able to
donate over $500 to this year’s Annual Conference Session
offering in support of the Theological Seminary of the
Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma. Our contribution,
combined with those of the other churches in our
Conference, will have a tremendous impact on the
development of spiritual leaders in that part of the world.
2019 Women's Retreat
"Wising Up Wherever Life Happens"
Friday, Sept. 13 - Sunday, Sept. 15
It's that time again to begin thinking about the Women's
Retreat. Our retreat is being held at the Zephyr Point
Conference and Retreat Center in Lake Tahoe. Zephyr Point
is a haven where God's presence seems to reach out from
the beautiful mountains and deep blue water of the lake
and surround you with a profound feeling of peace.
Consider taking time from your busy schedule to relax and
recharge. The retreat center has nice clean rooms with
bathrooms and showers. The meals are delicious and filling.
Special diets are accommodated. Carpooling is available.
Suki Kisling will present "Wising Up Wherever Life
Happens" A Woman's study on the Book of Proverbs. The
weekend will consist of a combination of scripture, video,
small groups, great food, games, crafts, beautiful scenery
and bonding.
Cost: $185 per person, 3 payments of $61.67 or 2 payments
of $92.50. All money due by September 1. Cost includes
room, meals and retreat. Scholarships are available to help
with the cost. Sign-ups will be available after church on
most Sundays, at the Connect Table.

Summer Reading at the Little Free Library
Just near the entrance of the playground stands the Little Free
Library! It’s a fun place to exchange books for children and
adults. Gather up some great books you’d like to give away and
share with the community. Simply place them in the Little
Library and pick a book that you may like to read as available.
Though the Library has been looking rather empty the past
couple weeks, you never know when you might find your next
great book for summer reading!

God is Everywhere A Spiritual Thought
We are living in a world that is absolutely transparent, and God is shining through it all the time. This is not just a fable or a nice story. It is true. If we abandon ourselves to God and forget ourselves, we see it sometimes, and we see it maybe frequently. God shows himself everywhere,
in everything — in people and in things and in nature and in events. It becomes very obvious that God is everywhere and in everything and we cannot be without him. It’s impossible. The only thing is that we don’t see it. —Thomas Merton
Guide on Giving
I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc. is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditures exclude them. —C.S. Lewis
