Dear Students,

Greetings from New Horizon College of Engineering!Education is not about studying, Education is about learning.

A good teacher enables a student to understand, whereas a great teacher enables a student to realize. It is only when students go through the cycle of studying, understanding and realizing; they become good professionals and great human beings. In New Horizon College of Engineering, we take immense pride in the fact that our students receive the highest quality of education.

At NHCE, we understand the need to teach beyond curriculum so as to make our students ‘industry ready’. Recent observations made by many stalwarts in the industry indicate the fact that a majority of engineering graduates out of colleges are not employable. NHCE has always been in the forefront in ensuring that students are employable. To overcome this shortcoming, we at NHCE understood that the curriculum need to be updated based on the requirement�of�the�industries�which�is�not�possible�in�affiliated�scheme�as�changing�of�syllabus�need�to�undergo�lots of procedures. Hence, to ensure this we have gone for AUTONOMOUS STATUS which is bound to overcome all the�shortcomings�in�affiliated�stream.

We are one of the few institutions in our country to offer three variants in our undergraduate and post graduate courses.�These�three�variants:�Global,�Professional,�and�Executive�programs�have�a�plethora�certification�programs�and other soft-skill features that ensures industry readiness in students.Extracurricular activities like sports and cultural activities strengthen the process of learning by teaching students the value of hard work, discipline and fair play. Benefits of Autonomous

Academic freedom The Autonomous Status accords an institution with the freedom to frame the syllabus and customize it as per the needs of the Industry. Students are taught the latest and relevant syllabus and customize it as per the needs of the Industry.Experts from various industries and experienced academicians from reputed institutes are consulted in the process of framing the syllabus. Dedicated efforts are made to ensure that the syllabus framed is “Employment Centric” and potentially lucrative.

Choice- Based credit system (CBCS) New Horizon College of Engineering follows the ‘Choice Based Credit System’. CBCS has numerous advantages over the conventional system. Rather than evaluating student performance using marks and percentages, which many a time can be very inconsistent and unfair, CBCS uses Grades and Grade Point Averages (GPA) to evaluate student performance. Using Grades and GPAs instead of marks and percentages provides a more holistic metric to measure student-performance.

Better subject choice and electives The earmarking feature of CBCS is that students in addition to studying the core subjects from their branch can also choose from a wide range of elective subjects from other branches as well. i.e students from non circuit branches (Mechanical, Automobile, Biotechnology and Civil) can opt for electives offered by the circuit branches (Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics & Communication and Electrical & Electronics) and vice versa. This way the CBCS seamlessly incorporates and encourages an interdisciplinary approach towards higher education which is adopted by top Universities across the world.

Employability becomes easier In� today’s� competitive�marketplace,� there� is� a� huge� demand� for� proficient�technical and management professionals. Practical training and a curriculum meticulously framed to meet the requirements of the job market are imparted to the students to make them readily employable. The overall syllabus is framed in such a way that students get to study more than 2 labs per semester, which in turn helps them gain more practical knowledge. In addition to this, hands-on project which is an important part of the curriculum plays a vital role in making students ‘employment ready’.

Make-Up examinations Students�who� fail� to�attend� the�final�examination�due� to� justifiable� reasons,�have�a�provision to take ‘The Make-Up Examination’ immediately after the semester results are declared. This feature of autonomy�is�extremely�beneficial�to�students�since�they�can�clear�their�back-logs�immediately�rather�than�carry�it�forward to the next year.

Fast Track Semester & Examination This facility is provided to assist slow-learners and students who have failed in one or more subjects to help them avoid losing a whole academic year. Fast Track classes are conducted and Examination is held at the end of each academic year.

Internships Students are provided with multiple opportunities to intern at various Industries and MNC R&D Laboratories, during their vacation time to groom them for the Industry.

Degree Students graduating from New Horizon College of Engineering (Autonomous) are awarded Degree from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Karnataka.

Examinations Equal�weightage�is�accorded�to�both�internal�and�final�exams.�Both�the�Internal�and�the�final�exams�are conducted by the college.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR, IN YOUNew Horizon College of Engineering has high academic standards. NHCE seeks to maintain these standards by admitting high calibre students. We look for evidences of academic knowledge and ability in those aspects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and interest in the subjects of engineering. Entry is competitive and we do our best to make offers to the applicant who are closest match to our selection criteria.

B.E. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAThe applicant should have passed Karnataka IInd PUC / 12th standard or equivalent examinations with Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry /Bio-Technology /Biology /Computer Science /Electronics as optional subjects and obtained a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in the optional subjects. In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/ other backward classes, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examinations.

DURATIONThe duration of the B.E. course shall be four academic years and conducted in 8 semesters, with each semesters, with each semester having a duration of 16 weeks.

Cars have enabled people to travel around quicker than they used to and made the life of mankind much more luxurious, convenient and safe.

An automotive engineer’s primary objective is to develop components and systems that provide maximum customer value�at�minimum�cost,�thereby�promoting�the�enterprise’s�profitability.�Some�automotive�engineer’s�focus�is�on�one�area of their specialty, while others have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the product development process, playing a more general role. Sometimes, the engineer will be working directly with customers, learning from�focus�groups�and�marketing�specialists�to�develop�a�concept�or�find�out�what�people�want�in�an�automobile.�The automotive engineer will also work with suppliers, manufacturing and assembly specialists while designing the components or systems. Most automotive engineers specialize in one of the areas such as structural design, exhaust systems and engines. Nevertheless, all specialized automotive engineers perform similar duties in at least one of three general areas: research, design and testing. The M.Tech program in Computer Science and Engineering prepares the students towards a career in the IT industry as well as career in academics and research. The well rounded curriculum consists of 13 advanced subjects in computer science engineering of which 9 core subjects and 4 electives which are selected from a pool of highly advanced subjects. The curriculum is spread over the duration of 4 semesters in 2 years.

Sports at New Horizon is played with much fervor and passion. Our students regularly participate in tournaments including those at the state level.

The college provides excellent sports facilities for the students. Extra curricular activities form the core of a students life in New Horizon. Since it helps to develope the all round �personality�of�the�students.�The�aim�of�extra-curricular�activities�is�to�make�the�students�fit�for�the�future�and�to�developed a sense of competitive spirit, co-operation, leadership,diligence,punctuality, team spirit as well as to provide a backdrop for the development of their creative talents.

New Horizon collaborates with the students faculty, staff, alumni and community members to provide innovative programs, services and activites. New Horizon encourages students to take part in various competition held in all other institutions.

The one of its kind annual cultural fest which brings the PUC to the PG students of various streams across the state under one roof is “SARGAM”. SARGAM fest is conducted each year with various powerful themes such as Go-Green, Voice Out etc. The theme for SARGAM 2016 is “MILITARY”.It is the biggest fest in Karnataka with prize money of more�than�five�lakhs�and�a��footfall�of�more�than�10000�students�from�across�the�state.

College festivals are the most effective way of bringing youth under the same platform, enhance social interaction and facilitate exchange of cultural ideas and thoughts. New Horizon Educational Institution organized a two day State Level Inter Collegiate Cultural Fest, ‘Sargam’ on 14th and 15h of September, 2015. A huge gathering of around 10000 students were witnessed in both the days of the fest. Around 3000 participants registered to participate in various events. The students came from various PU, Degree and Engineering Colleges all across the state of Karnataka. About 159 colleges participated in the mega event.

Extra curricular

Theme for Sargam, 2015 was “VOICE OUT”. It was indeed a celebration not only for New Horizonites but for every person involved. As always, Sargam 2015 aimed at bringing the student community together under one roof shedding away all the differences, bringing a sense of unity and team work among them. Sargam provided an opportunity for the students to express themselves in creative forms. Shri. BNS Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police, graced the occasion as Chief Guest for the inaugural program.

His words of wisdom motivated the students. All the sponsorers of Sargam 2015 were given due recognition and were felicitated. The mega event “MUZIKET’ provided the opportunity to showcase creative talents, to voice out against the evils that pull our country down. Another attractive event SUNBURN CAMPUS was held on 14th evening featuring world renowned DJ Shaan.

There were 12000 foot falls on the day of the event and the ground was packed to its capacity. The mega event was won by New Horizon College- Kasturinagar and second prize was bagged jointly by MVJ College of Engineering and New Horizon College – Marathalli. “Juke box” which played nonstop music held thousands of students dancing continuously for hours together.

Mr. Bunty Bohra, CEO, Goldman Saches was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory function held on 15th September 2015. Winners of both Junior and Senior events were rewarded and the overall best performance college award went to New Horizon College of Engineering.
