Chair’s IntroductionOn behalf of the Board of Trustees of New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), I

am pleased to present the 2018 Annual Report and congratulate the College community on a year of achievement, study, and planning.

An annual report is, by definition, about the past. In these pages we delineate the accomplishments of our last academic year. How many students did we have? How have we grown? What changes and improvements did we make? How have our donors and friends enhanced the College’s mission? These pages answer those questions and many others. At the same time, this annual report uniquely looks both behind and ahead, to the next three years in the life of the College.

That forward focus is embodied in our strategic plan, the 2018-2021 BLUEprint: Growing the Future Together. This plan represents thoughtful and sustained analysis and discussion on the part of the entire College community. It provides a roadmap for our future with measurable goals along the way. We are particularly pleased that here in this annual report, we have the opportunity to sum up the

2017-2018 academic year in the context of our BLUEprint for the days, weeks, and years ahead.

This past academic year has been characterized by productivity, energy, and hope. As we step into our future our intent is to be proactive, intentional, and sustainable. We believe that all of these characteristics are embodied in the College and, as you will see, represented in this report.

We hope that you will find much in these pages to celebrate, not only what we have already achieved but also what we are going to achieve in the years to come.

Sincerely,

Thomas R. De Vita, B.S., D.C.Chair, NYCC Board of Trustees

President’s MessageOnce every year, New York Chiropractic College gathers information

about the previous academic year and presents it in our annual report. This self-reporting is part of our responsibility as a not-for-profit educational institution. It is also part of our responsibility to our students, staff, faculty, alumni, leadership, donors, and everyone else with an interest in NYCC’s activities and success. We are pleased to participate in this demonstration of transparency because the College’s board, senior leadership, and I strongly believe in the mission, vision, and values of NYCC.

We are proud of the efforts of the entire community, efforts that have enabled some of our significant strengths. As we look toward the upcoming

NYCC will explore exciting new partnerships that open up possibilities for attracting new markets of students, as well as improving current programs to increase their sustainability and relevance.

NYCC’s involvement in the profession will be enhanced through scholarship and research opportunities, and our ties to graduates will be strengthened and deepened through collaboration.

NYCC will continue its commitment to sustainable, environmentally sound facilities management practices while improving our physical space and making campus living more attractive to students.

The College will examine how best to reach our audiences, share the College’s messages and stories, and position NYCC to expand its reputation in key markets.

NYCC will undertake data-informed initiatives to ensure the College’s long-term enrollment success and fiscal health.

The end of this academic year saw the introduction of the 2018-2021 BLUEprint: Growing the Future Together, a strategic plan many months in the making. It identifies five priority areas that, for the next three years, will be at the core of our strategic actions. In brief, those five areas are:

AcademicsIn the 2017-2018 academic year, NYCC received approval for a Master of Science in Sports Nutrition. This completely online, graduate-level academic program is without any residency requirements—one of only a few fully-online master’s level programs in this discipline. The M.S. in Sports Nutrition at New York Chiropractic College has as its foundation an evidence-based approach to sports nutrition to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Students typically enroll in six credits of coursework each 15-week trimester over the course of two years. Coursework covers macro- and micronutrients, applied exercise physiology, nutrition for strength athletes, nutrition for endurance athletes, dietary supplements, and sports performance.

This rapidly-growing specialty within the healthcare field enables graduates to immediately begin their careers in the field of clinical nutrition in a wide range of environments including clinical practice, consulting, teaching, and working with athletic teams, for the government or not-for-profit agencies, or in a related industry setting. This degree will also enhance the professional paths of coaches, athletic trainers, exercise physiologists, and various healthcare professionals.

corporate sponsors, industry and community leaders, and many others, through outreach efforts that include special events, publications, invitations, and regular activities. These outreach efforts support the College’s goals and mission with non-tuition funding and programmatic resources.

This academic year, NYCC was pleased to honor those who have made significant financial contributions to the College through the creation of the Lifetime Giving Wall. The individuals recognized on the Lifetime Giving Wall include:

• Donors to the President’s Council• Friends of the College• Heritage Society bequests• Annual Fund contributors• Scholarship Fund contributors

The wall, which will be updated annually, provides well-deserved recognition as a small token of gratitude for the support we receive.

Connections are at the heart of what we do. Through meaningful connections, we foster a culture of generative giving with attention to sound fiscal, ethical, and environmental stewardship principles, furthering the mission and values of NYCC.
