Why I Volunteer Why I Volunteer
Luis Marin , EMT
How long have you been a member of NYC MRC? It has been almost a year. I joined MRC in the early spring last year. And it has been an amazing experience. What is your profession?
I am an EMT , a student at CUNY, and a waiter in a great Italian restaurant.
What MRC activities have you participated in lately? I recently participated in the following train-ings: fentanyl/opioid outreach, improvised nuclear devices in NYC, Psychological First Aid, PECO canvassing team, Ethical Decision making in Dis-asters. I also participated in blood pressure screenings at different locations in NYC. There is one in particular that I would like to comment on, the one we participated on November 5th(one day before the NYC marathon) . Birch family spon-sored a 5K run/walk. This organization supports children and adults with autism. It was so inspiring to see the participants, their families and friends taking part in this special event. It was just great !!
Are you involved in any other volunteer activities? I also volunteer as an EMT at Central Park Medical Unit, which provides free emergency medical services to Central Park's 40 million an-nual visitors. Why do you volunteer for NYC MRC? Since that tragic day on 9/11, I always wanted to be able to help in case a disaster ever happens again. A friend of mine told me about MRC. As soon as I looked at the website, I knew that I wanted to be part of this. I love NYC and I will do anything I can to protect it.
