Dear Chair Randolph and National Urban League Young Professionals Awards Committee:

Each year, the New York Urban League Young Professionals offer a wide variety of personal & professional development programs, community service, civic engagement, financial literacy and fun activities that enrich the lives of young professionals and the community at large in New York City. This year is no different! As President of this dynamic chapter, I am proud to submit our application for National Chapter of Excellence, Regional Chapter of Excellence, Affiliate Service and National Day of Service Awards.

Please take the time to review all the great work that this chapter has done over the 2012-2013 fiscal year. My executive board worked tirelessly to design and implement programming that was thoughtful, relevant, and impactful. I humbly thank them for their hard work this year. I’m proud and honored to lead such a dynamic group of individuals.

I thank you all for your taking the time to review NYULYP’s work as well as the other chapters across the nation. A daunting task indeed and you all should be applauded!

Yours in the Movement,

Jemar T. WardPresident | New York Urban League Young Professionals

Event SynopsisEvery year the Oliver Scholars Program, in partnership with Barclays, organizes Career Day - an event focused on providing Oliver Scholars an opportunity to: * Network with seasoned professionals to build communication skills, increase connections, and learn about different career paths/fields * Learn how to highlight their strengths and develop “self-marketing” strategies for the college process and beyond* Receive feedback from professionals about resume writing and interviewing skills * Reconnect with scholars

11 YP Volunteers attended the Oliver Scholars Career Day in which we provided career mentorship to 50 students. We helped them develop their elevator pitch, conducted mock interviews and two spoke on the career panel. The event had too many prospective mentors and the panel was too long but in the spirit of NYUL and their goal to promote quality education I recommend that we make this an annual endeavor
