The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:

a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30 days

b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from your local Defra Animal Health Office.

Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

***SHEEP EID

The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st January 2010

1. Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.

2. Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read and recorded on behalf of the keeper.Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding

Holding Registers:1. ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:

farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December 2009.

The recording requirements include: All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

Young Bulls - 171 averaged 197.12pA very similar number of bulls on offer this week, however the quality on offer was perhaps one of the worst shows seen for years with lean and plain black and white in abundance!!

Trade was easier than last week by 4-5 pence on most qualities.

Top bulls today were consigned by Trevor Lyon who sold Limousins to 241.5p - £1308.93 and 240.5p - £1152.00.

Barry and Gill Heald sold Limousins to 240.5p (twice) - £1495.91 and £1397.31 with another at 236.5p - £1258.18.

Julie Wicks sold Limousins to 239.5p - £1379.72, David Bamforth, sold Limousins to 237.5p - £1686.25.

Today top grossing bulls sold from Ian Pitcher sold to £1886.68 and £1785.51. Stuart Dore sold Limousins to £1871.23 and £1794.69.

Best E graded bulls 230p plus with U+’s 222-229p and –U grades 216-221p and R grades 206-215p, best O+’s 199-205p.

Masses of black and whites with the best Friesian types 175-185p, plainer sorts 164-174p and plain bulls 150-160p and very plain Holsteins 140-150p.

CULL COWS and OTMS – 162 averaged 162.89p or £1133.58A very decent entry of cattle on offer today and certainly the day’s best quality entry in any section!

Trade was faster on the week for all breeds, qualities and weights with the average leveling at a very respectable 162.89p or £1133.58p.

Some marvellous top end cows forward today were led by Rugby vendors John and Denise Davies who sold Blues to 237.5p - £1648.25 with another at 215.5p – £2006.31 and Limousins to 225.5p - £1698.02.

Messrs Manor Farms sold Limousins to 219.5p - £1626.50, David Bamforth, Halifax sold Limousins to 216.5p - £1394.26 and Doug and Rachel Gascoine sold Limousins to 212.5p - £1553.38, Melton Mowbray vendor David Duffin sold Limousins to 205.5p - £1485.77.

Today all the best Beef bred and fed cows sold from 170p with R grade cows 158-168p and O+’s 140-148p, plainer cows (Fat class 1 and 2) discounted but still miles in front of the deadweight and local liveweight centres too insignificant to compare!!

OTM clean a much better top end sample and trade exceptionally fast.

Steers - 110 averaged 212.83pA decent entry on offer today and a wonderful top end quality, however saying that today some very cold short of meat cattle forward.

Trade today for meat very fast for short of meat cattle harder work and if some had been TB tested could have been worth more in Stores.

Top steers today were consigned by Mike, Jane, Charlie and David Wills (t/a Upper Coton Farms) who sold Limousins to 256.5p - £1372.28 with others at 244,5p - £1486.56, 244.5p - £1496.34, 243.5p - £1327.08 and 241.5p - £1526.28. Trevor Allen sold Limousins to 242.5p - £1370.13.

Top grossing steer today again sold by Messrs Upper Coton Farms who sold Limousins to £1743.56.

Today E grades 238p plus with U+’s 230-237p and R grades 218-228p and O+’s 206-216p.

As mentioned many very plain (Store) steers forward which were discounted.
